I'd have to say the best description of a Forester is a tall wagon. The only thing suv about it is it's styling. Now go crush some cones.

The Forester is classified as a passenger car, NOT an SUV.

Race away!

Tall, square wagon definitely. Basically I see it as an Impreza 2.5RS with a tall boxy body and higher ground clearance.

There was a thread out here a while back titled "Auto-Xing a Forester?" - search and you'll find pix of F's auto-xing and rally-xing. Based on that thread, your comments and (especially) that horrible thread showing pix of the totalled F's, I really want to sign up for some sort of performance driving school using my F. I want to better know how to drive it up to, but within, its limits.

I was interested in going to Subaru/Panoz Driving School at Road Atlanta, but I believe they use Legacy GTs and maybe 2.5RSs. If anybody could point me to a place where I could learn using what I will be driving every day I'd appreciate it.

Good luck trying to get that F on a course and let us know how it goes.

Ed: try a snowy parking lot! http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/wink.gif

The Forester is a compact station wagon, at least according to the government.

The catch is SCCA may categorize it differently. It's worth a look (and please share!).

It would be pretty cool to try it out, but I'd hope it would fall in a different class than the lighter, lower RS.

When my wife was getting her OB, I overheard a salesguy tell a customer the Forester was even registered as an SUV. When the salesguy walked away I went over and whispered to the customer that it's registered as a passenger car.
Imprezer - You have an RS, a Forester AND you're getting a WRX?? Wow!
edit: I re-read your "announcement". I guess you're selling the RS?

juice raises a good point -- while the Forester is goverment classified as a wagon, the question is if the track people do.

There's lots of misinformed folks out there, even within the government. If you go to the NHTSA website, they list the Forester as a "Subaru Truck". Tsk, tsk, tsk.

Unibody Construction, Impreza Drivetrain...

It's a CAR not an SUV...I hate SUV's

Well im my Book the Forester is the TURE impreza wagon. Same platform, and drivetrain, and a ture Wagon bodystyle, while the Impreza 5dr is a hatch.

We all pretty much seem to agree its a compact station wagon.

However, every agency sees it differently, so I'm curious about the SCCA.

Lucien had to fight for the BMW club to allow his Outback to race, because they weren't even sure that was a wagon!

So believe, but just be prepared to find doubters.
