What are some other mods that cam be done for <$150 that will improve performance? jeffg 07-22-2003, 03:06 PM lightened crank pulley short shift kit STI engine and tranny mount kit thats all I can think off of the top of my head. I am sure there are more. J TheDonPerignon 07-22-2003, 03:10 PM Shortshifter kits arent designed to improve performance, but rather are really only for a smoother shift, its more of a comfort mod. jp:cool: JewPac42 07-22-2003, 03:17 PM Originally posted by TheDonPerignon Shortshifter kits arent designed to improve performance, but rather are really only for a smoother shift, its more of a comfort mod. jp:cool: But decresaing your shift time can decrease your 1/4 time or your times on the track. EDIT: Couple of cheap mods 1. all those listed allready 2. homemade CAI, or used CAI (personally I would save for the COBB though) 3. used springs 4. custom magnaflow muffler There are a bunch more, look in the USED FOR SALE section, there are usually a ton of cheap parts Subie Gal 07-22-2003, 03:32 PM Originally posted by dingo dave I just put an 18mm rear sway bar on my RS. What are some other mods that cam be done for <$150 that will improve performance? what have you done thus far? only the sway bar? consider steel braided brake lines or a master cylinder support bracket for improved braking..... or both for $150 or less ;) Jamie JewPac42 07-22-2003, 04:04 PM Also check out www.scoobymods.com there is a ton of info there and stuff you can do yourself for cheap like the grounding mod. Zen 07-22-2003, 04:25 PM you can do the throttle body bypass mod there are two coolant lines that run into your throttle body. theyre located under the throttle body. youll need a 1/4" brass connector. just pull off both coolant lines and connect them together with the brass connector. this lets the throttle body remain cooler which equals more power. a brass connector costs under 2 bucks from home depot. i would supply a link but the search function is dead yet again  mykrrrr 07-22-2003, 04:46 PM Like everyone has said, there's a ton of cheap mods you can do for your car. I've gotten most of my parts used from fellow members and haven't had any problems with anything. :) -mykr. rossscarbro 07-22-2003, 11:23 PM I'm all about cheap mods... So far I've done- STi spec front strut bar- $60 MRT Rally rear strut bar- $75 Eibach springs new- $190 Restrictor mod (mentioned above replacing restrictor w/larger brass one)- $2 Grounding kit- $15 Hood scoop screen- $15 GFB Blow off valove- $50 I'm running out of cheap ones...but there's also the snorkus removal mod...it's free and you can do it fairly easily. I've been checking E bay for lots od things. The prices listed above are things I've found there and include shipping. I saw a brand new APS UNICHIP go for $101 last night!! There's a lot of good deals on there with patience. Zen 07-23-2003, 01:44 AM u could always pick up a set of wrx calipers and rotors and do that swap. coupled with some decent pads (i recommend kvr's) stainless brake lines, and high end fluid.. would make for a great cheap setup. engine and tranny mounts really changed the feel of my car. if you are really comfortable working on your car then you could possible install the engine mounts, the tranny mounts are prety easy to do. there are always the cheap DIY exterior mods, clearing up the orange in the sidemarkers, debadge trunk, little crap like that. its all listed in scoobymods.com TheDonPerignon 08-01-2003, 02:48 AM Originally posted by JewPac42 But decresaing your shift time can decrease your 1/4 time or your times on the track. Not true...it is purely for feeling, youre still rowing the same transmission, no large gains will be had. |
