I got an L Forester and I am looking to colorcode the door molding, rear and front bumpers and sideskirts black to match the rest of the car. Have anyone done it before? How much should I be looking to spend?

I want to get the door handles and the base of the side mirrors colormatched.

I got mine in 2000, and at that time S's were dual colored. Yuck!

Paint quotes vary wildly.

I asked for a quote to paint the side sills on my Miata and this one shop wanted $70 per side. That's not bad, actually.

But you have a lot more to do. Bumpers, side cladding, side sills, etc. It'll probably end up costing you $800 or so. Any cheaper and I would not trust the quality.

I'm sure you could have this painted, but painting bumpers is a difficult thing to do right. Look around & you'll see many cars with peeling paint on there bumpers. Shoddy crash repairs I suspect. Make sure your painter knows his stuff.

i honestly feel that $800.00 bucks is a little too much, considering that the body of the car is black it shouldn't be too much of a problem. if it was white i could see the process being a little bit longer and more costly. luckly its black and you don't have to worry about the grey composite cladding showing through. just make sure who ever does it, uses the "flex" adhesive, if not believe me it will eventually start to chip / flake off..

The trick is surface preparation. The L's bumpers are a slippery plastic, almost Teflon-like. Getting paint to stick to that would be tough.

I have a 2000 S model. As you know the moldings and bumpers are painted in a grayish metalic colour.
I am thinking about painting it to match the body colour, because it got scrached all over the place anyway.
Would it be hard to paint on something that's already been painted?

Should be much easier than painted the plastic cladding on the L. There is already primer under that paint, and a new coat ought to stick pretty well.
