View Full Version : Question about new up-pipe

I've got a helix up-pipe on the way and have been reading conflicting stories about re-installing the egt sensor. Some say that it's a bad idea due to the fact that it can break off and totally FUBAR your trubo. Others say that it's crucial to reinstall it for ECU reasons and if not installed will cause the car to run like $h!t.
Tried to find the answer myself, but am left still confused. Thanks for any help

I wonder why re-installing it would be such a big deal. Unless the put it in some crappy none OEM spot, I dont see its a problem. Only time will tell, once you get it up there....

Look up the 'resistor' mod. Seems like a possible solution, just find something to plug the egt bung.

I would not worry about it breaking off for a long time as far as whether or not to run it it does not really matter.

I have the resistor mod and have never had a problem.

So just plug the egt bung with a M12x1.25 25mm bolt and put the 2.2 ohm resistor in the connector and cap it off? Did you seal the bolt with anything to prevent leaks? Try to clear something up for me. Obviously the egt senses the temp and sends it to the ecu right? What happens if the egt gets to hot? I was told the ecu would somehow cut fuel to prevent complete melt down.
Not trying to go on and on about this, but trying to get as much info as possible. Thanks for all the input guys.

Is the EGT sensor in the up-pipe just there so the ECU will not burn up the cat?

My up-pipe was bungless, so I did not have to plug any holes luckily.

And yes it is in place to sense if it is too hot, but as long as you do not drive the car like a mad man or get an EGT gauge before you do you should be fine. I have been running mine for over a year, and I do not even have a EGT gauge. But then I drive like an old man. :D
