Yeah, I experienced the same sticker-shock when I was in Boston back in April.

93 was $1.74/gallon, and this was when our 91 was running $2.49

but we don't have it the worst. I guess it also depends on where you are.. for example, a richer neighborhood.

I went to Washington D.C. in the Georgetown area for my fiance's graduation and i saw prices pushing near $3:eek:

people will pay for gas regardless of price. it's like oxygen

Its also pretty bad in the boonies areas between the sierras and the bay, but then again i can understand then hiking up the price since they're the only ones around.

I've seen one out there for 3.05/91 before, good thing i had a full tank.

Shop around.
Don't forget about Costco. In Rohnert Park, 91 is like 1.87 (still a far cry from 1.59). Chevron on the other hand, is like 1.97 or so.

Evian at $2.00 retail per liter is roughly $8.00 a gallon and it don't burn.

How is it the Green Party's fault?

The prices are due to oil company greed and 91 octane is due to too much demand (Read This Article (http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/editors/technobabble/0201scc_techno/) )

The Greens have NOTHING to do with either problem

uh... ever heard of california emissions laws? thats all thanks to the green party... go to do some research, they are always quite proud of their work in that department.

You realize why this is though right?
1st. income in the Midwest is significantly lower then in cal. Someone whom makes 30k/year would be making 50k/year (mebby more).. same job in cal.

2nd. roads, there are a whole lot more cars in cal, and thus the roads get more work. tax in MI is 34c/gal

Sunoco 94 here is 10% ethanol
I normally get Marathon 93, which has been pretty consistently $1.70 to $1.80 for the last month. there is no price difference for marathon 93, over say speedway 92. (marathon doesn't offer a 92).

I'm not so sure what America’s problem is.. gas is incredibly more expensive everywhere else in the world. then there are those with heavily modified engines whom mix race gas for every fillup. Granted these aren’t daily drivers.

Amen!
Finally someone who knows what they're talking about.

People who have a problem with this "Cali" (I always thought this was "California") ought to keep in mind that there are a whole 49 other states to move away to. Frankly, California would be a lot better off without them.

just don't let the door hit you on the way out

why would i want to go to another state? Just because i think that our emissions laws are bs and our state government is corrput, doesnt mean id rather live in any other state. Personally, i dont think id ever move out of the bay area, i really couldnt stand living in any other part of the country. If i were to move somewhere, it would be ireland, or maybe japan. Yea thats it, i can go become an english teacher in japan.... mmmm skyline...

and its california... not "cali" ;-) "cali" is for people who arent from california or dont konw anything about it, just like calling san francisco, "frisco"

Yes, California has strong emission laws, but it doesn't affect the price of our gas. It's just another BS reason the Oil Companies use to jack Californians.

And, trust me, if California didn't have strict pollution laws, our skies would look like Mexico City.

Well, I just escaped from Cali. Enjoying my 94 Octane as well. California fuel is terrible. Even the "Brand Name" fuels leave a lot to be desired.

Union 76 is the only decent gas down there. Stay away from Chevron!:disco:

I guess I must be from outta state then because I call it "Cali", even though I was born and raised right here in the bay. Who gives a rat's ass what it's called. Does it piss you off when you hear someone call San Francisco "San Fran"?  And yes, high gas prices suck, but getting people out of their cars and thinking about improving public transit is a GOOD thing. If we don't continue building up public transit then the roads are going to get much worse, like they aren't anyways:(

I love living in California, but the above is VERY true.

Took a recent 4000 mile road trip in my Impala SS (96, "not stock" :)). Was caravanning with about 10 other cars, going to the "Nationals" for the Impala in Tulsa OK (if you want a state that IS a "****hole", well OK is for you!)

My SS, in recent years, has NEVER gotten over 20.xx MPG on the freeway. It should be getting more. Worried me to the point I was sure something was wrong with the car!

Well, nothing is wrong.....it's the horsep*** that we have for gas in CA!

Once I got out of CA and OFF the CA gas (eastern AZ), my MPG immediately jumped up to 23-24 MPG! And it happened for every other car in the Caravan as well (one guy who got 22 MPG on CA gas jumped up to 26-27 MPG on the "good" gas). That is right at the MPG I was expecting out of the car given the mods etc.

This higher MPG lasted the whole trip.....until we got BACK on CA gas. At which point, dropped right back to 20.xx MPG on that very tank.

Oh yeah, the cars ran better (more HP) once we got back down to approx same elevation as the Bay Area (i.e. in Tulsa) and were still on the 93 octane.

In other words, CA Gas really DOES blow!

I have a 94 9c1 caprice (mildly modded) and I noticed the same thing. My milage improved markedly when I got out of state. When I installed a MSD 6al ignition I noticed that I got another 40-50 miles to the tank on crappy so cal gas.

That's an interesting bit about mileage variances between different state's gas. Unfortunately I don't think we have a whole lot of choices:( Maybe someday things will change but don't hold your breath.

And yeah, I was born and raised in Oakland. Still call the city "the city" and call the state whatever the hell I feel like at that moment. "Cali" or "California" it doesn't really matter to me.

I also notice that I get much better mileage in Oregon than I do in California.

I'm not sure whether it's the better gas or the fact that the speed limit is only 65 and there's a cop with a radar gun
under every overpass

:D

It's probably the gas. I should note that we were going approx 73-75 MPH in CA, and bumped it UP to about 78-80 MPH once we hit AZ and NM (75 MPH limits). Back down to 73 or so in TX and OK (70 MPH limit) then 78-80 on the OK turnpike (yes, OK does raise the limit to 75 MPH when you're paying to drive on the specific road!).

Due to gearing on my Impala (T56 6-speed manual that I put in, and "highway" 3.73 rear gears....net result is I turn about 250 RPM less than stock at highway speeds) I actually get better mileage at 70-75 MPH than I do at 65 MPH in 6th.

As for road qualty : very good in AZ and NM, pretty good in TX, marginal in CA, crap in OK.....but about as good as the TX roads IF you're on the turnpikes in OK.

LargeOrangeFont : I assume you know about (and are on) the Impala SS Forum? Of course, it happens to be down today  but normally is THE place for SS/9C1 info. If you need details, PM me....

yummy T56... I was very close to doing that swap when I grenaded my 4L60E, Frankly if I had, I wouldn't have ended up w\ my WRX. Instead I had the blown trans rebuilt and beefed up. My car has the 3.08 rear end and I find I get the best mileage hovering around 80mph or so.

It sounds like you have a very special car impala SS!

1)It all comes from the same place, the Tosco refinery. Ur smoking crack if you really think Chevron, Arco, Texaco, Shell, Rotten Robbies are all different.

The only one thats different is 76, as theya re the only ones selling ethanol based gasoline. Ive noticed my car runs much better on 76 now.

2) Not that I care, but I have noticed most out-of staters or ppl from out of state refer to California as "cali", kinda annoying but whatever. Thats just been my experience as far as that goes.

3)Oddly enough, our gas got degraded down to 91 by the oil companies. Not necess because of an CA environmental regulation as far as I know. But I did read somewhere once that our gas prices are screwy because of the different gas regulations from state to state. So gas sold in one location litterally cannot be sold at another 300mi down the road, etc etc. It is weird we pay more tho, since we probably use the most gas in the US.
