I'm lookin' to getting an alarm for my car....Viper 790XV or Clifford Matrix RS3.

Does anyone know if it's a better idea to purchase the alarm on the internet and have someone locally in the bay area install it? Or do both purchase and install from the same store. My main concern is price first then quality. Do installers charge more if you don't buy the equpiment from them?

Any good locations in the bay area that would give good prices if the alarm was purchased somewhere else?

You have a not-so-rare brain disease...its called "cheapitis"...

I suggest a high dose of "save-more-cash", and check back with us in a couple weeks.

Any place in the Bay Area can do it, its pretty straight forward. Remote starts is where it gets tricky. Just call around for price quotes.

If you buy a stereo from a local, they might give you a deal on install...but check first. Ask them to match the total (part+install), as it would have cost you to order it and then install it.

Seraph,

Did you buy the alarm unit at the same place too? How long did the installation take? And are you happy with everything? Also where they able to install the remote start on your WRX(manual)?

Yes i bought it at the same place. I didn't want the remote start though because i really didn't need it, but they did ask me if i wanted to put it on.

On the cliffords, i think there's some kind of circuitry that doesn't let you start if you're parked in gear, which doesn't exist on the viper version, as they discussed amongst themselves while i was thinking about it.

I'm happy about everything, except i forgot to tell them to disable the factory upgraded alarm system so i had to switch it to valet mode on my own. But if you didn't get it with the factory upgraded system, then you'll be happy with the system on the whole.

The only thing is that you probably won't be able to remote start from too far away, as the antenna on the car is capable of sending at great distances, but the antenna on the remote isn't capable of sending at the same distances, you will still recieve the flashing signal indicator though, so it'll still be in recieving range.

EVen though the 790XV has the remote start feature...is there a way since the ECU has a wire regarding the Neutral signal of the gear...can the alarm installers hook up the remote start to this without having the hassle of legal issues?
