View Full Version : A/C power loss

Lemme ask a question. My ride's in the shop because my A/C is SERIOUSLY dogging my power, once almost stalling me because it kicked in right as I went (left-hand turn with oncoming traffic...not a time to kill the car). There's a loud (LOUD) "chirp" and for about 30 seconds my power is gone. Even if I'm cruising at a constant speed, it slows me down enough that I feel a thump in the pedal and I get leaned (not lurched) forward in the seat. Continental tells me this is "normal". No one else on this PLANET agrees. Anyone else had that?

There will definately be a slight loss of power or hesitation, but I have never experienced anything close to what you are describing. Do you remember who it was there that told you that?

I think "Brandon" was the mechanic and the fellow with the beard was the one at the desk that helped me. I just picked up the car. They said nothing was wrong, but they flushed the system and checked a few other things. The chirp is still there, but the power loss is much less...more along the lines of "noticable, but not bad" that is standard for A/C parasitic. I think they just fixed it and were playing dumb to make me look like I had no idea what I was saying. It acts completely different now. My paperwork is open so I can come back at any time and test drive the car with the mech. I asked if I could compare it with a Rex on the lot and they said sure. Well, of course, now that they fixed it :) They've always treated me great, but this was just something that was way off. There is no way that you couldn't notice this. I drove other Rex's and others drove my car and every single person was amazed at the drastic loss that it caused.

As long as it's fixed and stays fixed, I won't care.
