I never let off the gas when i'm shifting and was wondering if it's ok to do on the Wrx.

whats the use really? i mean..ive run the same person more than once, and tried doing one run powershifting, one run shifting as quick as i can , but the right way, and i havent gained squat, yet im fugging up my car..

Yes, I do gain 1-3 tenths in the 1/4 mile by keeping the gas all the way down and shift as quickly as possible. I was just wondering if it hurts turbo cars more due to the boost and if the blowoff valve is adequate. I just want to see what the car can do. Not all cars are created equal so there is only one way to find out.

A "good" driver would be able to match RPMs well enough that power shifting would hurt performance. I have yet to drive a car that hasn't faultered when given too much gas when the clutch is released.

I'd be willing to bet you can shift a lot faster by letting up on the gas, pulling out of gear right before you hit the clutch, pushing the clutch down to the floor as fast as you can, and as soon as you hit the floor, release and move to the next gear. And the best part is you don't burn up a new clutch every race.

I love the smell of a burnt clutch in the morning!

As for the rest of you thinking that shifting ANY other way than at wide open throttle for good et's at the drag or street races..... I would LOVE to run you, coz after almost 30 years of street and "other" racing, I KNOW that is the fastest shift there is. As for pics i'll see what i can do. Andre, maybe i got lucky in the past. I had a mustang gt and that car can take a beating. The trans did feel sloppy at around 60mi but there were so many hard miles on it. If i'm going to race i have to drive like i hate the car to get the best results, but anyways i feel that the trans can take it but i'm just uncertain about the turbos spinning to much psi's if the gas wasn't let off.

I shifted mine like that at 1.2 bar boost EXACTLY five times and the tranny went south.... WAAAAAY south. You will not blow a head gasket or hurt the motor UNLESS you miss the shift http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/eek.gif AGAIN, with stock WRX power the tranny will probably last a litte longer than mine did... BUT it WILL go south!

You will destroy your transmission and/or clutch, but yes, that is the fastest way to drag race. ESPECIALLY with turbo cars. It keeps the boost up while shifting. If you think otherwise, ask a couple of 11 second DSM guys I know. They all keep the gas on the floor whilst shifting. Granted they use stutterboxes, but all that does is help save the tranny.

OK, dumb question... how exactly do you match revs on an upshift with the throttle to the floor? I match revs when downshifting now, and it makes sense to bring up the RPM's when going to a lower gear. But the motor "wants to be" at a lower RPM when in a higher gear. So how can you match when the revs spike between gears?
