View Full Version : your automotive history
bclee 08-08-2003, 03:19 AM I'm just curious what kind of automotive histories folks here have. Mine is so varied it seems almost random. Or the result of insanity?
Here's everything I can remember. (Anything I drove a lot, for at least several months, but didn't own is in parenthesis.)
(196? Impala -- the purple people eater, used a quart of oil for every tank of gas. Didn't last long.)
(1968 Galaxie 500 -- a boat of car that wasn't happy if it was going slower than 80.)
1973 Monte Carlo (My first car, a hand me down, didn't last long either.)
(Various 1970's Ford 4x4's for work, actually I learned to drive in one of these)
1977 Mustang (parents gave it to me)
1983 Mustang GT (first car i got on my own)
(1987? Ford Escort wagon for at least 6 months while the Mustang's engine was being rebuilt by the slowest shop on the planet!)
1991 Toyota 4x4 V6 PU (most reliable vehicle I've ever owned, sold it a week ago.)
(199? Neon we rented for a few months until its transmission died because it was the cheapest rental car we could get.)
2000 Jetta VR6
2004 WRX Wagon
And you?
quynce 08-08-2003, 03:26 AM Man, you've got all three continents there.
Here's mine:
1. '88 Grand Am--bought from parents for $1,500, sold at 110k because clutch went out.
2. '98 Neon (new)--Clutch started going out @ 30k, struts replaced three times, water leaking into car. POS.
3. '99 Escort ZX2 (new)--Pretty good car, paid $8,888 for it.
4. '00 Nissan Frontier (new)--Turns out I hate trucks.
5. '92 Legacy--4eat, got a new job with more money, sold it to my sister, she still has it.
6. '02 2.5RS (new)--Loved that car, but I got a raise so...
7. '02 WRX (new)--Just started to begin modding it. Oh boy.

1970 Chevrolet Impala - HUGE car given to me by grandparents because trade-in was so low on it
1970 VW Beetle - I made it a California look bug, (lowered, dechromed, new rubber), installed dual carbs, elec. ignition, power pulley, exhaust. Fixed body work, prepped and had painted Corvette White
1975 Toyota Celica - removed vinyl top, prepped, had painted Porsche Guards Red. Gorgeous looking car when done!
1990 Toyota GT-S - First new car, right after I got my first REAL job offer.
1987 Toyota 4Runner - Ugly and slow, but absolutely bulletproof. Simply the most reliable vehicle I've ever owned. (so far)

Only good rental was the new camry and that was a little too soft.

Hatch/Wagons rule!
mjones 08-08-2003, 12:42 PM 1976 Chevrolet Chevette - Bright Orange - My first car, and a gift from my sister. She graduated college a week before I got my license. She went to work and bought herself a new car.
1967 Ford Mustang - repainted in Metallic Blue Pearl - Started complete restoration on this car in '85, finished it in Fall '86 and it became my daily driver. Bought it with the money I had saved for a car when my sister gave me the Chevette. Only had 38,000 original miles on it when it was totalled. I was t-boned by two illegal aliens in a stolen car. Multiple 360 spins. No seatlbelt on and all i got was a rugburn from the transmission hump. Incredibly lucky.
1984 Nissan pickup - White - This was when minnie trucks were coooool.
1979 Datsun 280z - babyturd Brown - Topend on this car was awesome. It would punch you into the seat when you slammed the throttle to the floor while in 5th at 100mph. My first mod baby with over 350hp to the wheels and not just in straight lines either. A cousin of mine redesigned the suspension for his structural engineering Phd. This was my daily driver for about 6 years. I put over 129,000 miles on it (about 150k total) before she finally had to be laid to rest. That was a fun fun fun car.:D
1987 Honda Civic Si - Blue over Blue - Pure commuter car, no mods. I put over 400,000 miles on it (engine replace at 340k) At that point, it still ran great, but the body started to rattle apart.
1997 Chevrolet Blazer - White - I finally decided to pony up some cold hard cash and by my first brand new car.
2000 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab 5.9l - Grey - Also bought it new.
2001 Volkswagen Jetta Wolfsburg Edition 1.8t - Cool White - Also new. Quite a few mods ecu, exhaust, suspension, etc. Dynoed 245whp.
2004 Subaru WRX wagon - WRBlue - Also new. I've only done minor mods so far. 7200 miles on her already at 3months 2days old
Mike
catass 08-08-2003, 01:45 PM 1989 Plymouth Reliant K car - parent's car. drove it in high school until one of the cylinders went.
1990 Chevy Corsica - beater car I bought for $2500 during college. It barely made the drive to the dealer when I traded it in a few months ago for $200 for...

JewPac42 08-08-2003, 01:46 PM Im only 20 so:
1986 Volvo 240 GL Wagon (Luxury edition, power windows & doors) busted brake line at 275,000 miles, was a $500 repair on a $1000 car, so I donted it to charity
1991 Acura Integra LS, MT, 17's, 2 JL 12W3's w/ 800 watt fosgate amp, gave to my brother when he turned 16, he got into accident, mom realized ti didnt have airbags, so she sold it and bought him a 95 GS-R
2000 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS, boght it about 2 months ago for 14K w/ 18" P1's, tanabe cat-back, COBB CAI, 5zigen springs, kartboy ss, momo shift knob, super custom ricer white paint on interior
OneManArmy 08-08-2003, 02:15 PM First car was a 1971 Datsun 240 Z. It was my mom's when she passed and came to me. I was a ward of the state...when I turned 16 I asked for my car....bastards sold it...even though it was on my grandparents property.
I had a 1988 Ford Ranger XLT xtended cab. Great truck believe it or not. Strait 6. Nice wheels...wide tires...lowered in the front..towing package so it was a bit high in the back and I put a fat sway bar on it...I could drive that thing without dropping below 70 on highway 17....great truck. Totalled it...some sucker ran a red light and I nailed em...some how the cops deamed it my fault.
1997 Honda Civic.....tuned it up...not ricer thought. Tinted it. Lowerd an inch (koni/neuspeed) Rear sway/tie bar, strut bars. Motor work...no exhaust. Nice little car....Sold it 3 weeks ago with 95k miles on it.
As of last night at 6:00 pm I bought a 2004 wrx wagon. White. Short throw. Cargo net. Security package. Arm rest. $25,571 out the door. had 10 miles...now 150. YEah for me.
QfactorRS 08-08-2003, 02:59 PM first car was a Peugeot 205 Gti, worked since i was 13 to get it when i got my licence. drunk driving wrapped it around a tree.
moved on to a clio 16s that i left to my girlfriend at the time when i moved to the US.
Quick appearance in a Corolla, for about 2 month, got rear ended by a truck.
88 Jeep Wrangler w/ busted center diff. I ended up throwing a Nitrous kit on it and Blowing the motor.
98 GTi 2.0, bought it used and left it on its side on a french highway.
02 RST, best and fastest car i ever owned.

'91 Subaru Legacy L (ate CV joints like candy)
'94 Probe GT (danged thieves!)
'96 Dodge Intrepid (my first suspension mod adventure...adjustable Konis and Eibach springs, with Mille Miglia wheels...suh-weet!)
'98 Subaru Legacy GT wagon
'02 WRX wagon.

Kevin
1992 Mitsubishi Galant (base model) - My folks gave me this while I was in college. Nothing too fancy, nice gas mileage. It finally came down with a problem that was so expensive to fix it didn't make sense. Donated it to the American Lung Association, and bought...
2002 Subaru Impreza WRX - Driving it every day and loving it!
OneManArmy 08-08-2003, 03:22 PM Qfactor....you left a GTI on the side of a highway....I hope that thing was totalled cause that's a pretty nice car to just leave..
You rich or something? Just leaving cars everywhere?
SlvrRS 08-08-2003, 05:06 PM 1990 Nissan Pathfinder SE - fire engine red, first car, learned to drive in it. absolutely indestructible, off-road capable (stock), blew it up a year ago with ~200,000 miles on it. RIP. :(
1996 Ford Bronco XLT (used w/ 20,000miles) (aka dark beast gangsta mobile) (Ford = flipped over roadside disaster), black- black rims, blackout tints, brushguard, tail light guards, ridiculous competition sound system, tons of mods.......absolute p.o.s. blew up the rear diff going 30mph, got 7mpg, sold at 71,000miles for a pittance.
2000 2.5RS - my current baby - bought brand new, now has 81,000 on it.......is up for sale....... :(
2004 silver/silver WRX STI - my new girlfriend (don't tell the woman that).....will be here in a week or two....i cannot begin to describe what waiting for this is like,......pure anticipation. :disco:
gjones 08-08-2003, 05:44 PM OK, I'll try this:
I learned to drive in my folks' 1958 Chevy Yeoman wagon. Fun to park...
1956 VW beetle. My first owned car. Bought it for $75 and it didn't run. This thing actually had semaphore turn signals. Had it towed home and took it completely apart, chopped the frame 14.5 inches and installed a dune buggy body.
1964 VW beetle. I kept the body on this one.
1968 VW Karmann Ghia coupe. Gutless, but fun anyway. It got badly rear-ended and totalled.
1972 Fiat 128 sedan. Fun to drive, but fell apart in nothing flat. What a POS!
1976 Honda Civic CVCC. My first NEW car. Bright yellow. Sold it when I got a job that gave me a company car, which brings me to...
1978 Olds Omega - the company car. Possibly the worst car I drove for any length of time. I only say that because the Fiat was more fun to drive. They were certainly in the same class quality-wise.
1976 Honda Civic - A used one that I bought after leaving the crappy job and crappier Olds behind.
1984 Honda Civic - A relatively sporty looking econobox and pretty fun to drive.
1988 Acura Integra - Great car. I sold it after 145000 miles.
1992 Mazda Miata - I still own this and it's my project car. It's turbocharged and is HUGE fun.
1996 Jeep Cherokee - Had it for 4 years. Build quality sucked but it was basically bulletproof.
2001 Subaru RS Sedan. Great car, but they should have at least made the rear seats fold so you can carry something besides a couple bags of groceries. Not a good fit when my other car was a Miata.
2003 Subaru WRX wagon. Only 7000 miles so far. I kinda miss the low-end grunt of the RS, but it makes up for it once you're moving.
gjones 08-08-2003, 05:45 PM BTW, great thread! Brought back some interesting memories...
1969 Dodge Charger SE - My first car (still have it). Bought it from the original owner.
1973 Dodge Sportsman van (1 ton) - My dad's.....he let me drive this most of the time instead of my putting miles on my Charger. Eventually donated.
1989 Mazda B2200 - First new vehicle for me. Very dependable truck. I needed something that could replace my Charger as a daily driver (since it was breaking down from wear & tear). I traded this in for my Chevy.
1993 Chevy Silverado - Had this peice of crap for 10 loooooong years and 110,000 miles. I had the following problems: 2 trannys, 2 radiators, 1 alternator, 1 winshield wiper module, 1 differential, 3 "coolant hose - quick release connectors(?)" (they connect to the intake manifold and leak all of the time), paint (started fading after 3 years and cracking after 5), grille (fake chrome peeled off within the first 5 yrs). I will never own another GM product again. I traded it in for my WRX.
2003 WRX - Bought it last Sept and I've only had minor fit & finish issues.
I tend to keep vehicles for awhile. btw, I'm 35 (not that it makes any difference).

1988/1989 (can't remember) Ford Taurus.. First car, bought for $500, only ran in reverse. After $2300 in transmission repairs, it ran... sorta. It had a V6, but when I was driving my friends home from high school in it, they would open all the doors (AIR BRAKES!) and basically the engine couldn't handle the strain.. Sigh, but I really liked it. Head gasket blew the summer after I got it.
Went through college essentially carless, until my senior year, when I bought a..
1989 Honda Accord LX... Though it had transmission problems (when you started it, it would idle at ~2500 rpm, which made shifting into gear a rather jarring experience), it came to me with 160,000 miles on it.. now it has to have about 180,000 miles on it, still running fine. Gave it to my brother.
Graduated college and bought ..
2003 Impreza 2.5TS. Yay! Only had a $20,000 car loan, so couldn't step up to a WRX.. and to be honest, I couldn't live with the turbo lag :( So far, loving the TS.
SupersonicWRX 08-09-2003, 03:44 AM I've had over 30 cars since I was 16 , with prices ranging from FREE (80 T-bird , first year digital dash  ) to $60 (had 2 of those , 76 Ford Torino , 71 Mercury Comet with a 302 ) to $200 ( 71 Chrysler New Yorker with a 440) to $300 ( 82 Honda Prelude) to the $28K WRX I have right now. Most cars I had lasted less than 6 months , and the most was 2 years (91 Beretta GT $1500 )We'll see how long the poor WRX will last.

jeremy c 08-12-2003, 03:13 PM This is fun!
1988 Chevy Cavalier RS 4cyl automagic
I paid for this car in cash about 3 hours after walking out of the DMV with my driver's license. It was silver, with all of the interior trim options of the better Z24 model. Not a bad first car, if a bit boring and slow. Had this car until one day, on the way home from school, heavy snow + too much speed = tree :( So then I drove dad's:
1992 Pontiac Grand Am V6
My parents didn't want me to buy another car, so I put the insurance payment from the Cavalier in the bank and drove the GrandAm.
1989 Chevy Cavalier Z24 V6 5-speed
I was very excited when I found this car. I didn't realize Chevy made manual Z24s until I saw this one. Quick (not fast) car. Drove it for 3 years, then traded it in.
1992 Mazda Protege ES 5-speed
I liked this car. It handled very well, had loads of interior options, big sunroof, lots of space. It had the 1.8 twincam motor from the Miata. Met it's fate when some jerk in a Town Car jumped a left turn and T-boned him at 35mph. Ow.
1996 Grand Am GT V6
This was dad's new car. I drove this one for about a year until my crappy insurance company finally paid out for the Mazda. My parents actually never minded me driving their cars, I gave it back to them in 100% brand new condition.
1991 Eagle Talon TSi AWD 5-speed
When my insurance paid out, I wanted another car. My dad spotted this one on a lot, and said I might like it. Fast car, but ultimately it had too many miles and things started breaking. But it did infect me with the turbo virus :)
1998 Honda Civic EX 5-speed
My first brand new car. Not terribly exciting, but with the suspension mods I did, it was great for auto-cross and also great on gas/insurance for me. Drove it for 3 years, then sold it to my little brother (who loves it more than I did). This car also was heavily damaged when another guy left-turned in front of me. But it was fixed very well.
1989 Honda Civic Si hatch
I needed a car because I thought either my other Civic would be totalled or take months to fix (I was right, it turns out). Paid $1200 for it, drove it for about 6 months then stored it for the winter when I got the other Civic back. Sold it for $1200 in the spring to make room for the WRX. I still miss this car, and I would have kept it had I had storage space for it.
2002 Impreza WRX sedan 5-speed
I ordered this car, and waited a very long month for it to arrive. Think it was maybe in the 2nd allotment, so I have a very early one. This is my favorite car up to now, and I will likely keep it for a long time.
1987 Honda Civic Si
This car actually belongs to a friend of mine, but he left it here with me when he moved out of the city. I know he'll eventually take it back, but for right now I'm basically it's caretaker.
I was only 24 when I bought the WRX, so I think I've had a decent amount of cars for my age. I guess I just like variety :D

Cardiff Giant 08-13-2003, 07:20 PM 1993 Escort Wagon was my first car. I called it the "Jetscort". It was green and the only options were an auto transmission and AC. It was my mom's but then it became our third car (and thus mine when I turned 16). I put about $1000 worth of stereo equipment in it. Sounded great but the woofer took up too much space and became a pain to install and remove.
Traded it in last month and got my 2004 Impreza Outback Sport 5 speed. Haven't looked back since.
DoinkMobb 08-13-2003, 09:47 PM 1979 Pontiac Bonneville - my grandpa died and this car was passed down to me. It was great for the drive from PA to FL, roomy and comfortable. Parking was a pain and there was the horrendous gas mileage too. Black guys were always commenting on the car too.
1995 Subaru Impreza - bought it from some old guy for $3750. Reliable, good gas mileage, and unique. Good enough to get me to work and school. Not particularly fast or fun to drive - yet. My next one will be AWD though.

mike270 08-16-2003, 02:16 AM 1990 Honda Civic / Red (Not even the DX model, I believe it had a 1.5L 4 cyl with 89hp):) But never had a problem. A very good car.
2002 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS
Yes I was pretty happy with the performance jump:D
My contribution:
1981 Chevrolet Luv 4WD. Got it for free when I got my driver's license.
1983 Subaru GL 2WD wagon, yellow. Inherited it from mom two weeks before my senior prom. This car was in the family for over 15 years without a problem. Sold it with about 300k on the odometer.
1984 Subaru GL @wd wagon, blue. Ran for a bit and sold it.
1981 Subaru GL 4WD wagon with dual range transmission and passing lamp. This car went through its first motor within a month of purchase. Put another motor in and added 108k on the clock.
1993 Subaru Legacy L 2WD sedan. Great car. This car had over 250k on it in just under four years. My sister was in a horrible accident and it was totalled. She walked away, but the other driver wasn't so lucky.
1995 Subaru Impreza L AWD sedan. Sold the '81 wagon for this car. Bought it used with 26k on the clock and drove it up and down the east coast. Sometimes I wish I would've kept it, but I needed a little more power.
2001 Subaru Impreza RS-- current. Traded in the L for my Sedona Red coupe. Great car and I like the power boost. Couldn't find a 5 speed sedan within 1800 miles of my house so I got a coupe.
1986 Subaru Brat--current. Bought it for a commuter vehicle. Its got some minor rust, but its been a very slow restoration process. I need to sell it soon. :)
1988 and 1989 Subaru RX hatchbacks--current. Bought them from a friend for peanuts. Spent three weeks working on them at a friends place. One runs, the other is a different story. Certainly the WRX predecessor. Has 1.8L turbo, all wheel drive, lockable differential, and low gear for the gearbox. A/c even works. Just about rust free too. Several offers have been made on this car when its taken to club rallys. :) Don't see many on the road anymore.
2002 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport--current. Got the missus to defect from Toyota and she loves this car. I have grown quite attached to it with some recent modifications.
1990 Subaru Legacy L 2WD sedan--current. The paint is toast on this car, but it runs great. Only 105k on the clock and it'll run forever. Belongs to another family member.
Next? Not sure. Probably a turbo Forester or Legacy. I miss having four doors, but the wagon makes up for it. :)

1964 Ford Falcon.
260 V-8, three on the tree. Eventually blew a oil ring - burned a quart a day.
Sitting ona hill at grandparent's farm, still in my name.
1981 Olds Cutlass LS
Wouldn't die - I drove it to 250,000 miles.
Sold it to a friend to go down in blazing glory as a demolition derby car. He's using it as a backup car for a while.
1991 Mercury Tracer
Wife's old car. I believe it was a nasty moment in Detriot's history, rust was eating it alive. When the rear swaybar fell off crossing railroad tracks, I decided it was time to shop for a new car.
2002 Subaru Impreza WRX
Hello momma. Bought Aug. 2001, and now has 53,000 miles on it, each one memorable.
I'm a sentimental sap when it comes to cars. I hope to get 250,000 minimum out of the rex.
Brad Pittiful 08-18-2003, 01:03 PM 1967 Nova - this was a race/street car that i shouldnt have bought because it was more race than street and was very thirsty - sold it soon after i got it
1976 Camaro - this is my second fave car i owned even though it was a 6 cyl
1983 Camaro - also a 6 cyl car but it was the 1st car that had air i owned
1995 Blazer - thought i needed an SUV but was wrong like the majority of people who buy them
2000 Impreza RS - my most fave car i ever owned and whomever has an RS you know why
Thunder Lungs 08-18-2003, 02:10 PM 1976 Chevy Custom Deluxe: Engine was built and was not practical for daily driving, 40" tires and around 7 MPG, was making close to 400 HP, sold for $9000
1994 Chevy Cavalier: Drove this out of necessity... was offered to me free so I could sell my truck, traded in for next car
2000 2.5 RS: This car changed my outlook on cars forever... I still own it, my wife drives it now
2003 WRX: Ahhh, dreams do come true

GravelRash 08-18-2003, 09:36 PM I'd actually forgotten about the first car I actually owned until I hit this thread - not the car itself, but the fact that I actually owned it, or half of it to be exact...
52 (iirc) Ford wagon: bought for $50 split with a friend, to be our first boonie basher. It was pumping water through 2 cyls of it's flathead V8, which we fixed. First run out, my buddy driving, me shotgun, his brother and a friend in back; his bro, >200#, sitting behind me...which will be pertinent in a moment ;)
Car was running as well as could be expected and we were exploring down a logging road none of us had been on before. Driver moving off the road into grass and brush on one side or the other until we'd see trees coming up, then back onto the road...until we're running about 35, off the right side of the road through head high brush - and the next instant the car looked like the message icon above!
Turned out the brush was hiding a stump about 8' high, and at least that diameter. We did an "offset right frontal" into it. The car had no seat belts (this was some time ago :p ) and the back of the front seat was semi-broken; it would fold about half-way forward. The best I could do to stabilize myself was left arm over the seatback (forlorn hope), and right hand braced against the dash.
Remember the 200#er behind me? I starred the windshield with the top of my head while my nose was busy putting about a 1/2" dent in the dashboard's '52 Ford 'murican steel! After the 200#er was finished propelling me into the windshield, and the car flipped left, he fell the width of the car and landed on the much smaller guy on the left...
Amazingly we all walked away and the only injury was my nose; I didn't even actually break it, but I did crush all the cartilage on the tip. (2 surgerys, a year apart; would have been better off with a normal break!). In fact, after we all climbed out the top of the car - formerly the right side - we had to push it over onto its wheels again so we could reach in the drivers window and turn off the engine which was still running! But the front wheels had about 1' (not a typo  ) of toe out, so we had to walk out and back to my house.
Onward...
62 Ford Ranchwagon: 352 - 2bbl, 3spd auto; inherited from parents w/ ~100k. Put Michelin radials and Hella high beam conversions in it; added a "poor man's rear sway bar" - 1500# helper springs bolted to the axle. Put dual exhaust on when the single kept blowing the joint between the Y pipe and the single pipe.
Put another 97k on it; did the valves at about 160k, otherwise engine was bulletproof. 3 trans, 2 rear ends. Used it for everything including chasing cows around the brushy areas of east Ft. Lewis (way lower brush! :D) Many, many stories with that car...most of them fun and/or funny.
Sold it with 197k; made the new owner promise to let me drive it over the 200k mark but he broke the promise :(
74 Civic: first new car, lots of fun; rolled it on a snowy offramp at 75k; totalled, but I was totally unhurt.
73 Civic: bought from a friend when he bought a 76 Accord; sold to another friend after ~75k more.
78 Accord hatch: good car; donated to Tibetan Relief Project after ~180k; recipient got t-boned in Portland a few months later - not hurt, but totaled the car.
83 Accord 4-dr: wife's car; ok car, but 83 wasn't the best year for Accords. She rear-ended a truck, took the bumper right across the headlights, and creased the hood about a foot in the air all the way across about 1/2 way back. I straightened the front end w/in 18" of true using a tow strap, various bits of lumber, and a telephone pole in the alley behind our house; straightened out the hood - nearly - by blocking up the corners on the driveway, putting an old sleeping bag on top, and doing my rendition of "Chinese foot massage" on it. Sold to friends at ~160k.
89 Integra LS 2dr: still have, ~160k. My first "performance" car (if you don't count the Ford  ); very dependable, and I still like the looks of it with the black 5 spoke Enkeis I put on when we bought it (gold car; nice combo).
93 Prelude Vtec: wife's car; she wanted the Prelude and I said it's gotta be the Vtec :D. 190k and going strong. Now she's looking for a 97/98 328i convertible; can't do the 325i - not enough powwwahhh after the Vtec! Between that and the WRX she's been subverted totally ;)
02 WRX wagon: ooohhhhh, yeeaaahhhh!. Most fun I've ever had with a car! 39k and not even begun to rock! I'd only be in real trouble if the STi came in wagon flavor...:alien:

1994 Ford Taurus - Pretty good car, got more than 150000 miles out of it.
1998 Honda Accord - A great car, but lacks balls.
2000 Impreza 2.5 RS - My current car and hot damn, I love it love it love it.
wgb113 08-25-2003, 01:41 PM 1986 Honda Accord - P.O.S.!!! It was my first car, used high school graduation money and it nickled-and-dimed me the entire time I had it.
1988 Dodge Shadow - This car treated me well overall, the paint was shot after a couple years of ownership. It seems the same little old lady that only put 52,000 miles on it in 10 years also neglected to wash and wax regularly. It started juicing money out of me towards the end but it got me from point A-->B.
2004 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS - Obviously this is my current car and after the first two beaters I LOVE IT!!

1981 Cadillac Sedan Deville, a copper/gold color with leather interior, I had it limo tinted, got some new white walls on it and it looked Gangsta! :disco:
1993 Honda Civic LX, this car got me into the "import scene" it was fairly riced out but not stupidly riced out, aka no altezzas, no neons, or any of that crap, had the red clear taillights, clear corners, lowered with Eibach springs, RS Akimoto CAI, and the rice part, a body kit.........tastefully done though.
1997 Impreza L Wagon, my current car.

Suzuki Swift GTI
(First car - Exhaust, Suspension, "R" compound tires... a little track monster... untill you hit around 90 mph then it crapped out)

(The new toy - Track days and weekends... Engine balanced, heads done, mild cam, BIG turbo, Custom Exhausts (a street and a track one) Coil-overs, Big Brakes... and the list goes on and on)

FortyTwo 08-27-2003, 04:49 PM Here's mine... just 22, so my list is just getting started...
'88 Mercury Cougar V8- POS 500 dollar car, but nice big engine
'92 Ford Explorer- Lot's of prob's, but loved 4 wheel drive
'99 VW Jetta- Sold for my WRX, slow, boring car, and not reliable
'95 Camaro Z28 convertable- Super fast car, lots of fun *
'85 MB 380 SL convertable- a beautiful car, classic looking *
'03 WRX- My favorite so far, incredibly fun to own*
* still have
I'll be looking for a project car soon too, I think... GF wants '71 firebird...
Bagelw 08-29-2003, 03:25 AM 84 GMC Vandura - had to bum this from parents
92 - Chevy S-10 - my first car or errr.. truck. Didn't like not having a back seat.
86 - BMW 318 - hey, it was a Bimmer or is it Bemmer or is it Beemer? Oh well, it got demolished by a Suburban
93 - Honda Civic DX - got demolished in a hail storm
94 - Honda Civic EX - great overall car but...
97 - Honda Passsport - I jumped on the SUV bandwagon
93 - Chevy Camaro Z-28 - I jumped off the SUV bandwagon very quickly and will never return. Unfortunately, Chevy can't build quality cars.
96 - Honda Civic EX - good, quality car but slow after coming from a 350 small block
00 - Honda Civic Si - great, fun, little car but still a little too slow for me plus FWD is ehhh...FWD
03 or 04 - Subaru WRX - currently in the market but can't decide to go bugeyed or not. Something tells me that interest rates and dealer discounts on 03s will be the deciding factor.
CTKAG 08-29-2003, 01:41 PM OK - here goes:
1968 VW Beetle - many mods in the ~20 years owned - including ultra-rare gas heater!!
1972 Chevy Vega GT Wagon - nowhere near as bad as everyone thinks!
1970 1/2 Camaro RS/Z28 - bought in 1976 - still own (awaiting restoration)
1971 Ford Custom 500 - called 'The Barge' - inherited - used as winter beater.
1971 VW Fastback. FI engine
1970 Chevelle - bought & sold same year as an investment (made $1,000!)
1967 Rambler Rebel - acquired for $60 - the cost of the new stereo previous owner installed. Another winter beater that hung around for 3 years. Stolen
1970 Chevelle - yes - another one - owned this one for 8 years - had built 350 - parted it out when crank broke.
1984 Mustang SVO - first exploit with a turbo'd vehicle. With the mods - exhaust, high-flow head, roller cam - car was probably faster than my WRX. Bought in 1987 - sold in 1993 for what I paid for it.
1977 Dodge Monaco Brougham - I 'married' this one. 'Divorced' it a few years later!
1989 Ford Granada ESS - 302, 4spd - still a Granada
1988 Ford Ranger - V-6, 5spd, posi, a/c, pw,pl, custom bucket seats & console, Roush body kit, Ford factory headers, flowmaster dual exhaust, 16" rims. Was on 3rd engine, 2nd transmission when finally body rust forced it's 'retirement' - 260,000 miles at that point!
1990 VW Fox - another freebee - still have - 2dr, 4spd 'rare' factory a/c, GTi rims.
1999 Ford Ranger XLT Sport. V6, 5spd, 4dr, all options. 1/3 drop, 17" Cobra 'R' rims, 255/45/17 Falkens. First new vehicle I ever bought! (and first I ever financed) - daily driver
2002 WRX-RW - slowly becoming a dedicated track car - not ready to commit to that yet, however!
There were a couple others I bought/acquired & sold almost immediately (Toyota Camry, Cadillac Sedan de Ville) but really never considered them 'owned'.
-Keith-
hilife 08-29-2003, 02:18 PM 1985 honda crx - $1900, highschool car then stolen.
1989 honda crx - made it to be a mid 14 second car.
1994 mazda RX-7 - Really fun until the engine blew on me in a race against a mustang.
1998 honda prelude - Bought this knowing that I wasn't gonna keep it for long.
2002 subaru WRX - This is by far my favorite car out of the small bunch
desiwrx02 08-29-2003, 11:36 PM 2002 Subaru WRX....

turbothisgirl 08-31-2003, 04:28 AM Well my list is just no fun in comparison...I am only 24 but still fairly boring:
1989 Mazda 323 HB. Red. Blew up twice. First car =)
1992 Mazda MX3. V6. Sadly it was teal. First car to slightly mod. Very fun. Beat all the boys in their Civics. Even more sad I was happy to get it into Reader's Rides in Super Street. LOL
1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse. Red (originally). Non-turbo. Painfully slow. First 5-speed. First new car. Overly heavily modded (if there is such a thing). 25 Sponsors - got myself and her onto a poster for Super Street - guess you could call it my "15 minutes". ;) Cops loved me.
1994 Isuzu Rodeo. My Eclipse became too out of hand to really daily drive. I only had it a few months while I had the Eclipse, then I lost my job - sold it - and started to daily drive the Eclipse again. Fun to have a vehicle I could take over speed bumps w/o being at a 45 degree angle - briefly.
2003 Subaru WRX. Midnight Black. Amazing to have a car that I don't have to get out and push up the hill. My first turbo! Sadly still stock except for a crappy/ quiet BOV. I love my Scooby though - and her "bug eyes". Can't wait to do some work on her.
kadunkadunk 08-31-2003, 06:36 PM 1969 MGB GT (Coupe)*
1973 Beatle
1970 Baja Bug
1972 240Z
1978 Alfa Alfetta GT
1982 Kaw 550
1990 Yam FZR 600 (Stolen)
1992 Kaw 750 Ninja
1989 Alfa Spider
1993 Z28 (F-body) Nice 6 Speed, awesome car.
1984 Ford F150 4X4
1996 Mazda MX6 (4 overhead cams)
1998 Durango
1988 Ford Mustang*http://home.kc.rr.com/volution/
2001 Silverado (Worst 6 speed ever)
2001 Mustang Cobra (4 overhead cams in a V8)*
2002 Suburban. 8.1 litres!*
1988 Suburban* Farm Truck
2002 Factory Five Cobra*
Waiting to Trade the Cobra for an STI, if it ever gets here.
This will be a nice test of my memory. Until the last few cars I've tended to buy used and drive them until they are pretty worn out.
1959 Austin A40 "coupe" - really a baby wagon. Bought for $125 - sold 4 months later for $175.
1962 Renault Daupine Automatic. Actually a manual transmission shifted by solenoids, with an electromagnetic clutch. Totalled when I sideswiped a sign instead of driving into the car that had cut me off.
1961 Valiant - aka the "red Baron"
1963 Triumph Herald Convertible
1964 Valiant
1967 Fiat 124 Sedan
1970 AMX 360 Go package. Bought new for $3100, sold in 1992 for $9500 with 29,000 miles on it - it was my garage queen while I drove the other cars.
1958 Olds 88 (winter beater - died in a month but I only paid $50 for it...)
1968 Plymouth Valiant
1972 Datsun 610 Wagon
1978 Datsun 510 Wagon
1988 BMW 325e
1987 Mazda RX-7 Turbo II
1998 Subaru Legacy GT Wagon
2002 WRX Wagon.
Somehow I think I've left out one there.
I'll bet I'm the only American who started with the Austin A40...
simpreza2 09-15-2003, 12:38 PM 1988 Mazda MX-6 DX 5 speed - awesome lil car...bought for $800 with 225k and sold for $2000 with only changing sparkplugs and batt.
1990 Ford Probe V6 auto - sucked royaly had for just 1 month b4 sold
1987 Mazda RX-7 non-turbo:( awesome car...want another 1...rotary rules!
1997 Subie Legacy Outback Wagon - Its a subie what else can i say:D
Jamesdak 09-16-2003, 08:03 AM 1974 - Pinto - pure junk/never ran
1970 - BMW 2002- modified with what I thought was a standard ti engine when I bought it - turned out to be some race program engine from the 70s. Fast car with great handling - drove for 2 years in Germany until the engine gave out and couldn't be repaired
1987 Dodge Daytona with a 2.2 turbo I motor - my first turbo car
1988 Dodge Dakota SE 4x4 - great little four wheeler but no power for the high Rocky Mountains
1989 Plymouth Sundance RS with a 2.5 turbo I motor - first car to be modified.
1991 Dodge Spirit R/T - super fast 2.2 liter turbo III motor - rare car less than 2000 built in it's two year production run-224 hp /217 lbs of torque-turned up the boost /bigger injectors/custom exhaust and intake/koni shocks, struts and rear sway bar- the car flat out flew and was my favorite-kept it for many years until I got stupid one day and sold it.
1997 Plymouth Neon - ACR Coupe- great handling little car-lots of mods-still my daily driver and almost as fast as my WRX
2002 WRX Sedan- all around great car-no where near as fast as my Spirit R/T
elucas730 09-16-2003, 08:15 AM Didn't have a car until I graduated from college in 99. In the 4 years since:
1992 Mitsubishi 3000GT
1993 Olds Cutlass Ciera
1988 Porsche 924S
2001 BMW Z3 (sold the 924)
2003 Hyundai Tiburon (sold the 3000GT)
2004 STi (sold the Z3)
6 cars in 4+ years, not too bad. I'll probably hold on to the Tiburon and STi for a while, though.
shaggamag00nie 09-16-2003, 11:15 AM 1991 Ford Escort LX wagon - ahhh, the old battle wagon
1992 Honda Civic LX sedan - first adventure in Honda modding.
1981 Chevy Malibu - co-owned project car, we dumped a 350 into it. Good learning expereince
1994 Honda Civic Ex coupe - I dropped a B16 in it, was fun for a few years.
2004 Subaru WRX - It's what I've got now, and I've loved every 3990 miles so far.

Supreme Oppressor 09-17-2003, 04:51 PM 1978 ford Thunderbird - too young to drive when I bought it, eventually hauled away to scrap yard.
1980 VW Rabbit bought in college, never got road-worthy, abandoned at friends house when I moved home
1985 Ford Escort - hand me down from my mother, eventually hauled away to scrap yard
1988 Chevy S-10 ran great, suffered typical northern Ontario car fate...tons of road salt = heavy body rot. but at least I DROVE it to the scrap yard.
2002 Subaru WRX Keeping it forever, moved to Alberta, little/no road, plus its a way cool car!
GeneWeen 09-18-2003, 12:56 PM 84 Cadillac Cimarron
91 Cavalier
93 Chevrolet Conversion van
And I am a wannabe WRX owner, soon I will have one!
It's a shame all the gas I waste in the Van when I could be having fun with the gas!
rossscarbro 09-18-2003, 01:40 PM Hmmmmmm......
'78 Monte Carlo- w/65,000 miles. first car bought for $700 from family friends. They actually had plastic seat covers in the back so when I removed them in '90 they were basically brand new!
'93 Grand Am-- Total POS!!! Bought from my mother. Blew the head gasket at 75,000 miles and found out that was a common problem with those. I hate GM!!!
'93 Celica GT- Bought w/38,000 miles. Now that car I liked. It looked cool and was sort of sporty. Lasted forever and probably could have kept on going. Could'nt afford a WRX at the time so it had to do. Traded it in @ 103,000 miles for my....
'02 WRX!!! Woo hoo! Finally got one! Bought used @ 28,000 miles . Have had it now for only 3 months and love it!!! When it finally gives out one day it's either STi time or finding another WRX w/low miles and continuing the party!
The fiance has a '03 BMW 325i. Sorta mine too because we both pay for it. Very nice car w/a perfect blend of power, handling and luxury. Still, I never drive it because my rex is #1!!!!
I'm 21, so there isn't too much of a history.
1996 Ford Explorer Limited
This was my first car. I couldn't believe it! My parents wanted me to have something safe with airbags and whatnot. I loved having a nice SUV.
1991 Toyota Corolla DX WAGON
This car was in storage for a while. The only reason I was driving the Explorer instead is because it was a stick. Can you believe it didn't even have a tachometer! I had this for the latter part of going to a private highschool. I remember one of the final days of senior year it was lifted onto the curb. As much as it sucked, I had a lot of fun with it!
...
2001 Sentra SE
When I left NEU in Boston I needed a car. My parents wanted me to have something with airbags. I was pretty excited since it had the performance package and a 5 speed. I put a CAI in there and it was pretty damn loud. I did some damage one night when hit a curb and broke the axle.

TheMirror 09-20-2003, 01:10 PM All manual trannies of course!
'67 Camaro SS 4 speed - Built motor, black, lowered, loud, blew a foot of flame out of each exhaust during high RPM shifts. Ultimate high school ride. Hurst shifter on M-21 trans still the fastest, most direct car I've ever shifted.
'79 280ZX - Cam, throttle body, headers, exhaust. 180hp after that, and made great sounds. Lethal lift throttle oversteer at 10/10ths. Thankfully never spun it, but got REALLY close on a few occasions.
1988 Acura Integra 5 door RS - Jackson header, Bassani exhaust, Tokikos, lowered. Bought it new and did the mods plus better wheels. Little did I know that I was doing a sport compact before sport compacts were all the rage. Heh.
1990 Ford Taurus SHO - Terrific car with a terrific engine. It could dig ditches with brake dive until I put Eibachs and Tokiko shocks into it. Miraculous difference. Borla exhaust added an honest 30hp.
1988 Ford Mustang 5.0 notchback - Police issue car from Oregon that was never used as a cop car; sold to a private buyer instead. Literally showroom condition at 40K miles. Utterly evil handling until 90lbs of Global West subframe connectors and Maier Racing strut tower brace. Felt like a real car after that. Nevertheless, no room to carry anything and it broke a lot. Ended up hating it.
1995 VW Golf GL - Yawn........
1997 Subaru Legacy L 2.2 - Put 90K miles on it in 2.5 years. Solid as a rock. Made me a believer in scoobies.
2003 WRX - Yeah baby!

Yikes! I worked at a Mercedes/Sterling dealership in the late '80s in the service department. I remember seeing various mechanics faces go pale and their shoulders sag when they were assigned one to service/fix. Only the British could take a perfectly good Japanese car and make it unreliable. Some were solid though. How was yours?
Cheers,

'93 Nissan Sentra SE - purchased w/ 60k miles, ran it up to 150k in 3 years, 5th gear synchros eventually went, drove it for a whole summer holding the car in 5th gear (anything over 50mph), too expensive to fix, eventually sold it to some guy for $400.
'04 Nissan Spec-V - purchased brand new, CAI, suspension work, short shifter, Yok's. Owned that for 16 months (47k miles) until some @sshat decided to park his car in the left lane of I-80 in the dark just over the crest of a hill. Needless to say, that car was totaled.

russd32 02-17-2005, 06:52 PM 1970 Cutlass- My dad bought it at an auction for my brother and I when I was like 13. We just cleaned it up and sold it. Made some cash.
1971 Nova - six in row, ready to go. plus a sweet powerglide to boot. If you've always owned imports you won't know what I'm talking about.
1983 S-10 - I bought this when I was like 17. Then my dad helped me put a 350/350TH in it. It was fun. Sucked on the highway with 3.42's.
1988 Olds Delta 88 Royale Broughm- OOOHHWWYY PIMPIN. I bought it to put a bunch of miles on going to and from school.
1991 Mazda RX7 - I drove it for a while and replaced the motor once. Now it's a project car with a 350/Camaro 5 spd in it. It's not done but it's real close.
2002 Impreza 2.5rs - My graduation present to myself. I figured I deserved a newer car. Haven't done any mods besides some mild audio. I prob won't, I'll just trade it in on a wrx. i've driven the 2-5 28xxx miles in 9 months so far.

2. 1989 Honda Civic Si hatchback (1st new car I ever bought sold it when I moved to Colorado and started racing bicycles -needed more room-)
3. 1990 Subaru Loyale wagon (bought used, had 189,000 miles on it when I sold it)
4. 1996 Subaru Outback wagon (2nd new car I bought, only had 26,000 miles on it and I went off a back country mountain road driving to fast and rolled it four times)
5. 1996 Subaru Outback wagon (3rd new car I bought, replaced the crashed one had 132,000 miles on it when I sold it)
6. 2002 Subaru Outback wagon (4th new car I bought, still have it 54,000 miles on it)
7. 2005 Legacy GT wagon (5th new car I bought, traded my wifes VW Jetta in, just turned 2,000 miles today)
My wife drives the 2002 Outback and I drive the 2005 Legacy GT
The Legacy GT is the best driving car I have ever had. I replaced the wheels, tires, swaybars, endlinks and I'm putting "pink" springs on this summer with a new up pipe, down pipe and cat back.
Mark Avery 02-19-2005, 02:48 AM 1967 Mustang - paid $1800 and when some idiot totalled it insurance gave me $2400. The only car I ever made a profit on.
1979 Mustang, 4 cyl auto - it was a pig, but it gave me many many trouble free miles. Sold it to finance a trip to China.
1986 Mustang, 4 cyl 4-speed - bought new. The worst car I've ever owned. Gave it to my dad when I went back to China.
1988 Fiat 126P - tiny little city car I owned in Beijing. Easy to park.
1981 Accord 5-speed - beater beach car when I was at the Univ of Hawaii.
1989 Civic DX - fun little hatchback.
1994 Accord coupe - I was married and wanted a practical car.
The wife left me so I said, "screw practical" and bought:
1996 Prelude VTEC - great car, and the beginning of my mod obsession. But, mods only showed the limitation of FWD, so:
2002 WRX wagon - with modest power mods (260hp) and killer suspension; fast yet practical. I'm going to keep this one a while. ;)
Oh, and wife No.2 has a 2000 Golf.

1997 VW Jetta GL, Red. Emergency replacement when the Prelude's engine died in 1999. Decent car, fun to drive, quality sucked. Eventually transmission went, too expensive to replace. So....

GuyLR 02-19-2005, 11:12 AM Here are my cars in order of purchase including the first two I learned to drive in that belonged to my parents. You can see that I'm attached to A-Body Mopars and wagons. I've never owned a car from the 1970's because they were all crap. I didn't buy foreign until the Forester but now I'm a 100% Subaru convert. (*) Cars I still own.
1960 Valiant V200 Sedan
1963 Pontiac Bonneville
1965 Dodge Dart 270 Sedan
1965 Plymouth Barracuda
1965 Plymouth Valiant V100 Wagon
1966 Plymouth Valiant V100 Sedan
1966 Plymouth Valiant V200 Wagon
1982 Plymouth Horizon
1984 Chevrolet Cavalier Wagon
1965 Plymouth Barracuda (Another one)*
1994 Plymouth Voyager LE Sport Wagon
1995 Plymouth Neon
2000 Ford Ranger XLT
2001 Subaru Forester L*
2002 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS*
2000 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport*
Caboobaroo 02-19-2005, 11:52 AM ok I'm gonna be 21 in October and I've had quite a few cars IMO. I listed them in order of getting them with some info on the and what I did with them. The ones with *s are the ones I still have. Here they are:
1956 GMC 1/2ton stepside. Was mine when I was like 12 but my dad had my grandparents sell it to bring him booze from Cali
*1988 Camaro Sport Coupe. Had the stock bodykit on it, 2.8 liter v6, 5 speed BW, 3:42 LSD 10 bolt rear, t-tops, red. Great car for a kid in highschool especially when you buy it on your own.
*1976 Triumph TR-7. My dad bought this for me as a "highschool project". Yeah, now it sits rusting away in Oregon in a cowfield :(
*1988 Camaro IROC-Z. Only factory made police interceptor with t-tops (have paperwork to prove it) Bought it right after I graduated from a friend for $500 cause he scared himself in it. Turned out to be a great investment because right now, its worth $18k with a blown tranny and needing some bodywork. When I'm done, value will be $30k on the car.
1983 Subaru hatchback. My first Subaru. Paid $50. I was gonna make this 4wd but I never did. Instead I traded it for my next car....
*1979 Subaru 4wd wagon. This is my'secretmobile' which currently is getting an EA81TT (1800cc twin turbo)
1986 Subaru 4wd turbosedan. My friend and I got it for free and got it running. He ended up giving to his g/f cause it was "his"
1982 VW Rabbit. Free car yet again from a friend who I helped with his Jetta. Drove it for awhile until the plates expired on it. Sold it before I moved to Wyoming for $275.
1987 Subaru Justy. 2wd piece of crap that I paid $50 for and would do some crazy ass burnouts! I traded it for my next car...
*1978 Subaru Brat. Ahh yes, my minitruck project. I lowered it and whatnot but I'm stuffing a Nissan frame underneath it and dropping in a SBC and a 5-speed.
1987 Acura Legend. Another free car which I sold for $100 bucks 2 days after I got it.
*1989 Subaru RX turbo. My current car which I'm building the living crap out of. EA82T, WRX TD04, WRX IC, WRX hoodscoop, WRX dp, TWE header, Delta cams (260 grind), GReddy Profec B-Spec II EBC, GReddy TT, Samco IC hoses, silicone hoses, AEM CAI, full reseal, XT6 5-lug conversion, aftermarket foglights, 4EAT to FT4WD d/r 5-speed conversion, and lots of other goodies are going on this car. I have almost a grand into this car including buying it for $150 from a j/y because of two blown headgaskets and a bad oil return lin from the turbo. I am going to be outrunning WRXs and hopefully STis all day long in this car and will have cost me much less. Kinda rare since its the black and gold RXs were made the last half of '89 and not too many were made.
ripvw 02-19-2005, 03:25 PM '68 chevelle: grandmother's car, learned to drive on this one, 350 small block, drum brakes, 78-series whitewalls - 'nuff said
'70 caprice wagon: parent's car, ditto with front discs
'73 Mazda RX-2: my first car - paid for it with money earned from summer job, first Mazda rotary in US, learned to drive a stick with this one and burned out the 1st clutch in 30k, 2nd lasted the life of the car as have all clutches since - and you thought your WRX has no low end torque...
'73 BMW 2002: most fun car I've ever owned until I modded the WRX, most expensive to fix car I've ever owned, last used car I will ever buy, first car I've ever added aftermarket goodies to - learned all about wheel offset the hard way with this one
'79 Fiat Brava 131: back when it was the World Rally Champion - almost as much fun as the BMW until it hit 100k and then the phrase "fix it again, Tony" made a lot more sense to me...
'81 Ford Escort wagon: amazing utility - small station wagons make so much sense, auto and no guts, began leaking oil like a sieve @ 100k from every orifice
'85 Ford Ranger: 2.8 liter six leaked oil like a sieve from day one, handled like a pig until I discovered the beauty of Bilstein shocks (had Koni's on the BMW and Fiat), leaked oil from every orifice upon reaching 100k
'86 VW Jetta: other than torque steer, this was a wonderful and reliable car, taught son how to drive a stick on this car, sold it with 250k for $1250 - still running like a top, maintenance items only - no major repairs
'89 Ford Mustang LX 5.0 liter: same profile as CHP chase cars of the time, fun watching cars slow down on fwy at night as they saw the all-too familiar pattern of the headlights rapidly approaching in their rear-view mirror, great engine - lousy brakes, fun to watch friends try to drive it without popping the clutch in 1st, only reliable Ford I've owned - did not leak oil
'92 Ford Explorer: traded in the Mustang for this thing, ultimate in utility and interior space, terrible handling even Bilstein's couldn't cure, experienced the infamous tread separation well before it became a national incident - replaced the Firestones with upgraded plus-0 Bridgestones - no more tire problems, leaked oil like a sieve from every orifice @ 100k, was so popular a design we sold it for 2k over blue book despite being up front about oil leaks, no ac (replaced 4 times) and cracked windshield, vowed never to buy another Ford
'91 Mercury Tracer wagon: ok, so it's another Ford and it was used - could not pass up unreal deal, same benefits of earlier Escort wagon, much better car, still leaked oil from every orifice @ 100k
'95 Subaru Impreza LX coupe: wonderful car - first AWD, son still drives it with over 250k, rivals the Jetta for reliability, replaced all-seasons with summer Michelins and visited Mike Shields of SPD - added STI shocks, springs and larger rear bar - almost as much fun as the BMW, bulletproof
'97 Subaru Outback: softer and less precise than the Impreza but incredible utility, great in the snow, perfect for hauling the 2 Rotties around, still running great with over 100k
'01 Nissan Sentra SE: great 2 liter engine, just as much torque steer as the '86 Jetta, steering felt numb and too light compared to the Subaru's, seemed like the best cheap car on the market @ about 15k - gave son the Impreza
'02 Subaru WRX SportWagon: traded in Nissan after divorce - will never own another FWD car, will mod the hell out of this one, drive it into the ground and replace with STI - or maybe a Boxster...
Filanwizard 02-19-2005, 03:42 PM '96 1988 Chevy Beretta-by far the strongest 2dr car ever built when in comes to being a "tankmoble"
'98 1995 Chevy S10 with the Vortec V6, still my current ride till i save up enough for a baja Turbo. the S10 is a tough little thing though, goes offroad great. kinda sad GM disco'd the whole S-Series because the design was much better for 4wheeling then the bigger trailblazer they have now that replaced the S10 blazer.
wrxtremeWGN 02-19-2005, 08:56 PM '85 caddy eldorado - first car. custom paint job, chrome caddy hubcaps. got it when i was 16, didnt even have a license yet. boy the more i think about this car the more pissed i get. since it was my first car i bascially let it go to the crapper. then eventually rear ended some lady who slammed on her breaks thru a yellow light. i will have another one b4 i die! hows this for a project? '85 eldo w/ '04 northstar swap
next up...
'94 ford explorer ltd; great truck lasted till 150k, but it did eat up 3 trannies ;) im a tranny murderer no matter what a drive! great truck, offroad worthy, untill the front driverside wheel fell off after a ski trip. basically as good as a ford can get;)
'02 wrx wagon; the love of my life. complete stg4 vf22 equipped. 285whp/270tq on stock IC and only 16.5psi. eventually broke the trans. tore 1st gear completely out;) woulda have been too costly to go the rebuilt v6 synchros route, so SOA gave me a great trade in w/out trans and i stepped up to the '05 sti. i still miss this car everyday. im a wagon owner at heart!
02cbr600f4i; great bike, lotsa fun. still got it.
and finally...
'05 sti. nothing but praise for the car. driving it gets better and better everyday. infact cant wait to put in my mods and flash the damn thing!

Will from Maine 09-05-2005, 12:15 PM In 1995 I had an '82 Chevette - 40~hp Automatic. Worst POS I ever owned, but could not kill it. First car.
In 1998 got an '87 Mazda RX7. It was the stripped down sport model, alluminum hood, 4 piston caliper brakes in the front, best handling car I've owned. Engine seals failed becaus it wasn't getting enough oil.
In 2001 got a '91 AWD Turbo Isuzu Impulse, one of 800. Very fun, but loud and a constant problem. Dumped it when the oil lines self destructed.
In 2003 got a 2002 WRX with 7K on it. Good times ever since. Going to drive it until it dies. Hopefully that will be a few years after I finish paying for it...

1991 Nissan Sentra - My first car, and probably a good one for a 16 year old male. It felt like it had about 50 horsepower.
1999 Honda Civic Si - This car got me from my junior year of high school through college. I ended up modding the suspension from autocross. It was a great car that never had any mechanical issues and always got at least 29 mpg. That last part almost makes me now regret getting a...
2005 Mitsubisihi Lancer Evolution - I bought this car 3 weeks ago now that I'm out of college and have a job. I'm loving every part of it, except the not-so-great fuel mileage. I was all set to pick up a 2006 WRX, but the 0% APR for 60 months was irresistable.
candyman 09-05-2005, 05:32 PM I tend to bond with my cars for a while so my list looks short but this spans about 23 years now (owww!!!) All have good stories - will try to keep short.. :p
1976 Dodge Coronet (...from grandpa - aweful car - lasted 2 drives, threw a fit, refused to drive it, convinced dad to take it as his work car) then...
1970 Pontiac LeMans 350 (family car-turned highschool V8 sled!
Dad bought new (i was 4 & still remember the 1970 new car smell!), still have it... restored in 1985 but needs it again now.
1984 Ford Tempo (another from grandpa, ndd it for harsh San Francisco street life...onced launched it off Gough Street  - drove into the ground until mechanic refused to work on it anymore :p)
1993 Honda Civic DX Hatch (1st new car - stolen after 3 weeks...)
1994 Honda Civic DX Hatch (Great car - lots of fun - still runs strong unmolested by rice with a nice 3rd owner (so i'm told) in the OC....probably not for long though. :D
2002 Subaru WRB WRX with Australian STI body kit & a few stealth mods - WAS an awesome car! Died an untimely death recently by an idiot pulling out in front of me... saved my life though! :(
Next Chapter:
2006 Subaru WRB WRX on order! (2 more wks!!!)
specialev 09-06-2005, 01:47 AM I'll bet I'm the only American who started with the Austin A40...
My moms first car was an A40! That was back in the 1950's.
This is the first car I have ever owned that wasn't english, it is a lot easier to work on in many ways than other things I have owned. This mostly has to do with the newness, probably.
1979 MG Midget - Burned up when house burned to the ground along with a 1968 Triumph TR250.
1979 MG Midget - Bought with insurance money after my house burned down, sold long ago.
1976 MG Midget - Bought for parts, drove it home and parted it out.
1971 Triumph TR6 - Still driving it. Love it to death, hopefully I can keep it as runner and not a museum piece.
1977 Jaguar XJS - Flat head V-12; Fast as hell at 10 MPG, optimum. Bought it for $300, sold for $2200.
1986 Jaguar XJS - Rebuilt the engine and most everything else, then I converted the TH400 automatic transmission to a Tremec TKO 5spd. Also fast as hell at 12-17 MPG. Sold at a significant loss to my brother who is still running it daily.
1961 Triumph Herald Convertable - Restoration in progress.
1960 Triumph TR4 - Restoration in progress.
I'm glad to see that there are some others here that have also run some junky old English cars other than myself. I just about bought a Range Rover rather than this Subaru. I sure am I glad I didn't go down that path.
cashcow 09-08-2005, 01:39 PM 1. '85 Buick Century - Brought it for $1500, first car since I got my license at 16 ^^. Sold it to a friend for $500 after owned it for a year
2. '88 Nissan Sentry - Brought it for $2200.. car totalled after I got it for 2 months.
3. 91 Honda Accord SE - Brought it for $7000 from a friend, oen of the most trouble free car I ever own. Owned it for 7 years, I love it.... and I missed it. Sold it on 2004, I could sense major problem coming for this 13 years old car.
4. 2005 Subaru Outback Sport :D - Total $21000, best to drive.... but in terms of trouble free...I already spent $790 to change the Wiring Harness. Tech said they were cut by rats. I also had the AC/Heat Blowing Motor replaced last week. Did I got myself a lemon or what? I still can't believe how a new car need to go to the shop for mechanical problem.
shwaggin 09-08-2005, 02:02 PM Wow...looking at most of these lists I feel like a youngin!
1. 1991 Volvo 240 sedan (A girl who had had her license for ONE DAY turned her parents' TWO WEEK OLD Cadillac directly into the front of my car while I was going ~50 mph oncoming. Hit her so hard she lifted off the ground, spun 270 degrees, and landed with the back right door lying in the back seat!)
2. 1993 Volvo 240 wagon (actually couldn't maintain speed on > 20 degree uphill  )
3. 2003 Subaru Forester 2.5X (runs like a champ!)
