View Full Version : Confrontation with another Celica GTS/Integra
Pinoy 04-23-2000, 06:42 AM Hello everyone. Just thought that I would post a little story, that happened to me on my way to work tonight. Now, before I get burned, No cars, no people, no animals were in the vicinity, clear skies, dry night, in a business district. If anyone is familiar with the Jamboree exit in Irvine CA, from Main St to Barranca St is where this little shindig took place. I exit off the 405 and turn left and go to the first light (Main St) and low and behold what rolls up next to me, some kids in an Integra LS (not even a GSR,Type R) rolls along my right side packed with 4 people, dropped to the ground with a kit and some 18" Racing Heart C5's. The car looked pretty tight, and on my left side rolls up a Celica GTS with 3 kids in it also dropped, couldn't tell what kind of wheels it had on, but it also was lookin really tuff. Looked like they were goin to a party. These guys were together, as they both looked at me and each other revving their engines and making gestures as if they wanted to race. WELL,WELL,WELL... I couldn't let these poor guys down now could I? As the opposing light turned yellow, we all started the rev process, I went to 4000 RPM, These guys were also getting ready for lift off, purfect sound of exhaust tunes, together in a deep melody is all I could hear, that light turned red, and ours goes green, I drop the clutch an all I could hear was both cars peeling out, and I mean bad!!! Needless to say, I totally annialated <---Spelling? these guys out of the hole. By the time they were rolling I was already about 8 car lenghts ahead of them. The Celica is pretty fast once it gets going. I slow down to stop at Mcgaw (red light) and now these kids roll down their windows and ask me if my car was turbocharged/Squeezing. Yeah right, I wish, was all I could say. The driver of the Teg was a little embarrased, as I just welded his doors shut with all his friends in the car, and made an excuse to say that I'm lucky that he had a bad start, and challenges me again. We wait for the light to turn green, and he takes off a little better this time, as I only got about a 5 car length on him, HAHAHA we race all the way to Barranca. And the Pinoy Jedi strikes again http://208.9.184.67/NonCGI/wink.gif We pull off to the McDonalds parking lot and they Check out my ride and give me props on how it looks/performs. One kid stated that he is gonna get the turbo next year, I guess more people in the import scene are starting to get down with the Subies!!! Coool! Well they were some pretty cool cats and they invited me to the party they were going too, but like I said I was on my way to work. I politely declined and was on my merry way. I did tell them though, that if we were on the freeway that they would eventually catch up and pass me at about 120 MPH. I told them about the web site and they said they would check it out. So Reynaldo if you see this, just thought I'd share this with everyone, and say whats up to you and your friends. They're pretty cool on this board. Oh Yeah, not all Honda owners are riceboys. http://208.9.184.67/NonCGI/wink.gif

late_apex 04-23-2000, 07:17 AM Note to self:
Never race anybody when your car contains an extra 500 pounds of people.
I beat the pants off my friend in his SHO on our way to lunch the other day because he had 3 200 pound passengers. Including the driver, that brought his curb weight up to like 4000 lbs!
larryganz 04-23-2000, 07:22 PM My nephew recently tolds me that my RS feels faster by seat-of-pants than the SHO I traded for it, and all I have done is a modified intake (www.ImprezaRS.com).
I think my SHO was a bit faster, what does he know. Definitely helps to shove the passengers out the door before the light turns green though!
GT2RS 04-23-2000, 08:03 PM pinoy...filipino?

symbul 04-24-2000, 12:44 AM He Pinoy!
I drive around that part of Irvine a lot also. I think that Jamboree past Barranca (Eastbound) is great for speeding. It really amazes me that the Impreza can't go faster than ~125 mph. I was in Germany recently and even tough my rental car sucked (Toyota Avansis = 1.6 liter ~100 hp) I redlined the car in 5th gear and was going 140 mph on the autobahn... Oh, well!
Leonardo 04-24-2000, 07:59 AM The only time I went above in a RS was with my friends RS (ChúSacRS) Who has a JC turbo kit and killed the spedo, IN FOURTH GEAR!!! WOW!
That car feels(well it is) fast!
All I can say is, I WANT TURBO!
Leo

JaiMak 08-08-2000, 06:00 PM Very nice, I'll say, if I didn't have an RS it would be a white GTS any day.

Rich L 08-08-2000, 06:12 PM Way to represent the "RS clan" Pinoy!
cvalle-sd 08-08-2000, 07:52 PM If that kid is going to get "the turbo" - what's he doing riding around in his friend's car now? It seems like there's a lot of Gonnas, and not so many drivers.
-kinda OT
SCOOBYSHAG 08-08-2000, 09:27 PM Welcome Eugene!
Man, you should feel lucky! Atleast you have a car from a company that shows interest in the aftermarket (TRD)!
heheh...haha...you know what?? our subies can take a lot of cars like off the line..but once we hit like 3rd or 4th....we're done and over with..hahahah...I raced a done out prelude SH...had AEM cool air intake, DC headers, Full catback Tanabe G-medallion exhaust, changed the cam gears and all the pulleys....and I still mananged to keep up with him until fourth gera..then he started to pull on me...big time..hahahahahhah....AWD BABY IS DA BOMB!!
Digital_Boy 08-08-2000, 10:12 PM Wasn't there some rumor that a turbo AWD Celica was being considered for North America? If that's true, I may get a Scooby Sedan, and get the Celica AWD for my coupe instead... I love the lines of the new Celica, but the FWD only and lack of turbo makes it a no go in my book.
<edit> and no, I don't mean the 1980's Celica All Trac... I already knew about that.

matt7184 08-08-2000, 10:40 PM That AWD turbo celica would probably be high 20s low 30s since the GTS goes for low-mid 20s.
Hey, Pinoy are those Konigs the right offset? Did you need to roll the fenders to fit them?
edit: Celica's are sick, I'd take a black GTS.

pwrup25RS 08-09-2000, 12:43 AM Hey Pinoy, where in Irvine do you work? My office is right off of Beckman. If you guys are in the irvine area, my company drives those white station wagons around, with 'Consolidated Reprographics' all over them.
codemunky 08-09-2000, 01:41 AM Hey Pinoy, was that you that parked at Red Robin at Tustin marketplace last week? You have a black sube, right?
00'RS-white
MikeYOX 08-09-2000, 02:44 AM Nice kill Pinoy! More proof that hp is nothing without traction. It's always good to get respect from owners of other brands, rather than to have them dis you because you own a better car.
late_apex:
Including the driver, that brought his curb weight up to like 4000 lbs.!
It takes a lot of horsepower to move that kind of weight at a good speed.(ask me how I know)
