Well a friend went out and paid too much money for a Evo1 that had been rebuilt into a Evo3. He gets the car on a Friday afternoon and comes into the shop on Saturday with a flat tire. Well then on Sunday he has it towed in with a dead tranny. All he said was that he was downshifting and it started to make alot of noise and the car shook. I asked him if he over rev'd it and he said no it only rev'd up to about 4K RPM. So anyways we take the tranny apart yesterday which is amazing seeing how you have to turn them to get them out of the car. You actually have to take them out the same as the 91-92 Galant VR4's. We started taking it apart and noticed a few interesting things. Mitsubishi actually uses a high density plastic lever arm for one of the gears and to get the tranny apart we needed another freakin specialized gear puller from the dealership. Once it was finally opened it was clear that this car had taken some beating in the past. The gears let go everywhere! The only undamaged gear was the one and only steel gear in the tranny. Everything else is aluminum. We ended up with ground up metal getting into everything including the LSD. For just 2 used gears it cost $400. Then we needed new bearing. The bottom line is this repair job is a long way from being over. At least I'll know just about everything about the Evo tranny by the time I get done. http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u=1383244&a=10323092&p=34814163 http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u=1383244&a=10323092&p=34814163 http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u=1383244&a=10323092&p=34814170 http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u=1383244&a=10323092&p=34814170 http://albums.photopoint.com/j/ViewPhoto?u=1383244&a=10323092&p=34814173
