I can not come to a conclusion on which one to go with...Here is a list of parts that are going in :
-Perrin up pipe
-Invidia down pipe
-hks carbon/ti
-Sti injectors
-walboro 255lph fuel pump
-IHI vf34
-Ecutek tuned/dynoed by shiv

I was originally going to get a vishnu tmic and sti scoop/splitter. After thinking and realizing the price is close enough to getting a front mount , I am stuck with a tough decision.

I need some opinions on what you guys would do? I have been told that the vishnu tmic would be good for this set up. But I love the front mounts by txs(hyperflow) and aps etc...
I would be getting one that let me keep my fogs and not have to cut my bumper beam...They just look so mean up front and the pipes under the hood.
But will I see better results with the fmic?

Thanks for reading.:D

wrong forum, yes. I have this same debate.

fmic has slightly more lag than tmic.
fmic has better cooling than tmic.
tmic can get heatsoaked by the turbo.

with the fmic you can't keep the claime than your hood scoop is functional.

I really wonder how big of a difference in cooling there is. I don't think i'm worried about heatsoak. I don't sit ideling (ie traffic) for any long time.

Hi guys,
FWIW, we stopped development of our FMIC simply because the extra lag, pressure loss and complexity wasn't worth the theoretical benefits of slightly cooler charge temps. Whatever we gained through charge temp reduction we lost through extra pressure loss. If you're trying to make a 500hp drag car, that is one thing. If you're driving on the street, instrumented testing has shown that a well-designed and properly ducted TMIC (at least up to 340-360hp) is hard to beat. Just our findings, YMMV...

I disagree and find the FMIC offers a much better value in terms of HP per dollar. THe power gains at highway speeds are spectacular and there is a marginal if any decrease in turbine response.

On a highway, if a properly ducted TMIC offers a perfectly reasonable 85-90% cooling efficiency with less than 1psi pressure loss between the TB and compressor outlet, there is no other form of intercoolering (other than perhaps a one-shot water-to-air unit chilled with ice) that is going to provide a "spectacular" power gain at any speed. Air-to-air ICs can't chill the aircharge to below ambient and they can't offer negative pressure loss.

As for turbo response, I can't argue with your assessment since you and I have not compared the same intercoolers. But, in my experience, FMICs induce a very noticeable amount of lag time, especially between shifts.

YMMV, of course.

I basically have these mods (TXS v1 TMIC) and did 274whp at 16psi.
