Dear Members,

I am posting to let you all know that the 6th Group Buy for Imprezas is about to begin. Just to warn you, Katzkin has raised their prices across the board and is now charging us for options that used to be FREE. Specifically Katzkin now charges for two-toning and embroidering but we are still going to offer that for FREE. I know there are several different companies out there competing with us, but we a the track record of great quality in both product and service that no one else can touch.

Here is the new pricing...

The group buy that you will be coordinating will be good for any Impreza that we have a pattern for currently. We do have the pattern for the new 2004 WRX High Back Buckets. I will be collecting a list of interested buyers and updating that list on this forum. We will hold out until you guys reach the threshold you deem satisfactory. Each member on that confirmed buyer list will then call in separately with their final order and payment information. Each member will be charged separately and the product will be shipped according to each members preference. The group buy structure is as follows...

Buyers: Discount: Price:
1......................0%.............$679.00
3......................5%.............$645.05
5....................10%.............$611.10
10..................16%.............$570.36
20..................22%.............$529.62
50..................N/A...............$499.00

We will be offering the following options at the indicated prices.

Two-tone............................FREE
2 embroideries....................FREE
Installation Kit.....................$25.00
Install Video........................$10.00
Color Double Stitching.........$10.00
Colored Piping.....................$55.00
Suede inserts......................$85.00
Flat Perforated inserts.........$25.00
Flat Non-perf inserts............$25.00
Seat Heater System............$85.00
Seat heater/Massage..........$149.00
Shift boot.............................$49.99(actual Katzkin leather)
Premium leather upgrade.....$85.00(adds more leather to rear seat covers)
Carbon fiber inserts...........$120.00
1/4 hide of leather...............$80.00
1/2 hide of leather.............$145.00
1/4 hide of carbon..............$120.00
Yard of Suede......................$80.00
Ground Shipping..................$25.00(FREE for everyone if we get over 15 orders)

These covers are OEM spec and are made to install in place of your factory cloth or leather seat covers. Once installed they will look just like the factory leather seat covers. The above prices are for the Deluxe kit which has a full leather seating surface on the front seats and leather inserts only in the rear seats. To upgrade the rears you will need to add the Premium leather option listed above.

These are 100% compatable with the Side Impact Airbag systems in the Bolsters whether you have the cloth or the leather factory upholstery. The WRX interior has a very straight forward installation and the averaged do-it-yourselfer should have no problems with the task. Our installation kit includes the hog-ring pliers, hog-rings, and the super-adhesive upholstery glue that you will need for the door inserts for $25.00.

We will be launching a new website sometime late this month or early next month... I will let you know when it is up and ready. To speak to me about any questions or comments you may have concerning this group buy please call toll FREE 1-866-NEWSEAT ext 104. We look forward to impressing many of you very soon.

Regards,
Eric

I want these so bad... How long have the previous GB's been before payment was due?

Also do the seat heaters include switches?

Usually anywhere from 4-6 weeks since the start date. The seat heaters DO include switches, and if they are the same style as they have been for the last 5 GB's, then they fit SO damned well where they belong (the two blank switch areas by the e-brake handle).

Bizarre weather here in PA - 88 degrees on Friday of last week, and 61 two nights ago -- damned good decision to install those seat heaters - LOVE those things!!! :D

I've been waiting for this GP for quite a while...I'm interested in if we can get 20 people. When can I sign up for this. Also, how much is shipping to Canada.

Too bad about the new pricing....one would assume that as a product gets more mature and the volume goes up, the pricing should come down (unless there's a sudden shortage of cow hide that I'm not aware of).

Have had my covers + seat heaters for about 14 months and ~20,000 miles now - installed on 7/14. I am pleased to say the darn things look just as spiffy as the day I first installed them. The shift boot is SWEET and I have to get my pics up, but the rest of my interior is REALLY dirty right now, so I gotta get my butt in gear and snap some pics!

Dear Members,

I am not sure if they will work with the JDM seats... aren't they the same HB Buckets that are in the newest U.S. Spec WRX STi? We do have the newest HB Sport Bucket pattern... I will attach a pic of that.

The new carbon fiber leathers, yes they are leather with a carbon fiber finish, will be available if anyone is interested. I will post pics of the some of the new exotic line of colors.

As for then new pricing, I would fully agree with your feelings, but they aren't necessarily valid. Twenty years ago candy bars were 15 cents, now they are 70 cents... inflation is just a fact of life. These leather kits are only going to get more and more expensive with time. I would just suggest that we not to compare this deal to any of the other group buys... things have changed and they will only continue to change. The fact is that these prices are still very low and some options are even cheaper than they were before. If you really want to know the specific reason for the price increase it is due mainly to one major factor. Katzkin publicly announced that they were introducing a hefty pricing increase as of June 2003. This price increase is due to the fact that the owners felt that Katzkin is not as profitable as they should be. They now charge for pretty much every option, two tone costs us $20.00 now and embroidery costs us $10.00 now. They have also instituted large surcharges on all kits if they are considered a non-current year pattern. By non-current I mean 2003 and older. It sucks a lot for everyone. I know that it has been cutting into our profit margin quite a bit recently. As you can see we are still going to eat some of those costs for you guys by offering two-tone and embroidery for FREE... that is $30.00 down the drain so to speak compared to the last group buy. The fact is that we will make significantly less money on this group buy than we did on the last one even with a small price increase.

CirrusWRX got the rest of the questions it looks like.

Thanks,
Eric

Hi Eric,

Thanks for the reply. I do appreciate your efforts in keeping the price as low as possible for this GB.

Just a small suggestion, since embroidery and colour double stitching both cost your around $10, could that be a free option if I should choose to have the colour stitching instead of embroidery? This may make the apparent price more attractive to other members who may not want embroidery. Let's get as many people in on this as possible.

Thanks. Still waiting on shipping cost to Canada...you do ship to the frozen north don't you?

The JDM seats are different than the USDM STi seats. There is more bolstering on the sides. If you can make it i can send you my seat covers so you can make the pattern, im pretty sure theres others out there with JDM seats who would like leather.

We do ship to Canada... it is 40.00 for Standard UPS Shipping.

I will check to see if we have the JDM pattern for export possibly, but if we don't we would gladly pattern those seats for you. The only difference would be the front row correct?

do you have pics of the carbon fiber colors installed? its hard to tell with the closeup :)

I have seen these pictures:
http://www.autoleathers.com/HTML2/AL.MAIN.FS.html

(click "design your interior" then answer the questions until it shows color schemes, carbon are at the bottom)

but they are pretty small, so its hard to tell how it will look

I will go 'on the fence' if we get 20 buyers. Let me sleep on it :)

Also, I am a bit confused about what is included for the back seat. If I dont get the premium upgrade, do I just get cloth back seats with leather inserts? I dont want that...

Also Put me down for 1 seat heater

Dear Members,

I was not able to get approval for the double-stitching/embroidery swap, but I will let you know if that changes. Sometimes volume talks.

As for the Premium upgrade deal. The normal kit that Katzkin sells for the WRX is a combination of leather and vinyl. The more leather the more expensive the kit. There are two different kits that most people buy. The Deluxe kit for $679.00 and the premium kit for $779.00. They both have full leather seating surfaces on the front seats, but the Deluxe kit only has leather inserts in the rear seats where the Premium kit has closer to a full leather seating surface back there. If you are not familiar with what vinyl is it, it is a cloth fabric that is sprayed with a vinyl liquid and then stamped in a certain texture. In this case the vinyl is sprayed to match the leather color and then is stamped with the same texture that the leather hides are stamped with so that they match. In the above pics the sides of theose front seats are matching Black vinyl and the seating surfaces are leather. This is the same as what 95% of all OEMs use in todays leather interiors.

I have seen these deals drag on for 3 months and I have seen them close in as short as 3 weeks. It is hard to know what right now.

Thanks,
Eric

eric,

i have a 2002 wrx sedan. i want to do the leather seats, but i have a question.

i want my seats 2 tone, with the outer edges and headrest in the matching interior gray, and the middle a lighter grey, but not as light as this picture:

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/attachment.php?s=&postid=3283136

i want something lighter that the matching gray, without that much of a contrast. i want contrast so that there is a noticable difference, just not so drastic (it looks great, i just want it a bit more subtle).

can you do this? i haven't seen any pics that match the combination / layout i am looking for. i am sure we could figure out the colors, but i am wondering about the headrest / middle portion / outer edges etc.

Heh - that's my car!! :)

I want you to look at that picture and realize WHAT COLOR it is before deciding whether to go darker or lighter. Go into your car, and look at the head-liner - the fabric and the plastic that is darned closely matching. THAT is the color of my center section, perhaps it is JUST A TAD darker, and after conditioning the leather, it is even a LITTLE darker, but there is a VERY noticeable "color difference" between the bolsters (which match the REST of the interior PERFECTLY) and the centers.

Not sure if I helped much, but my colors are "dark graphite" on the outside (darker color) and "LIGHT GRAY" centers.

no i do see how it matches and i like that combo a lot, it is def my second choice because it does match the interior nicely. i want the outside to match the dark gray of the interior and i want the centers to match, but be a few shades lighter, just enough to pick up on the difference but not to make it "black and white". i kinda want to darken the interior up a bit, i am having all the interior silver painted a metallic gunmetal as well.

there are some color combos i have seen that look too alike... then some days i like the dark gray with the blue centers!! i am like woman on this one!!

Eric,

All I found on autoleathers were those tiny ones, thats why I wanted to see a larger picture. The one you posted helps, thanks. Is it possible to get either of the 3 carbon colors for the larger portion of the seat, as opposed to the inserts? Sort of an inverted version of what you posted? Also, what is the texture on those like? Is it any less comfortable than leather?

I was thinking alone the lines of a black on carbon black combo.

Dear Googe,

The carbon fiber leathers are only offered as inserts. Katzkin does not offer them in the whole centers of the seats. I will look for pics of the other two carbon fibers installed. The black on carbon does sound good. The texture is basically smooth... it feels very plasticy. Why they put it on leather hides is beyond me. You can't tell it is leather underneath because of the Carbon fiber finish and it quadruples the cost for us and for you. They should have finished it on vinyl to make it affordable.

I would like the seat heaters, but I'm not a big fan of leather.

Sooooo........
-Can I order a set of seat heaters without getting a set of covers?
-Would it be the same price if I didn't order the covers?
-Are these the same seat heaters are the heaters that come standard on the Canandian cars?
-Would I have to wait until the GB closed to get the heaters?
-Are the heaters on timers? Are they adjustable?

Thanks

- If your not buying a leather kit I can't do the full discount, but I can sell them for 109.99 per kit.

- I don't know what comes standard in the Canadian cars.

- You can order today if you like... they are in stock and ready to ship.

- They don't have timers, but they have heat sensors that turn them off if they overheat. I am not sure what you mean by adjustable.

Blue Cobalt Suede will not match the STI front seats very well. The fronts are more a classic royal blue, while the suedes are lighter due to the texture of the suede. The suede matches the STI back seat and side inserts much better.

The back and sides aren't the Alcantra (escanine) material of the fronts, but a felt-like material which is slightly lighter.

Dear Members,

We can do a mix and match for you, but it will cost a bit more than the usual kit. Katzkin charges more for parts and it would have to be ordered through parts.

The 2003 STi HB Sport Buckets are not really any more difficult than the regular WRX LB Sport Buckets.

Those are the WRX LB Sport Buckets in the 2004 WRX STi interior.

The price will depend on the number that buy... the price drops as more people commit.

How many people are SERIOUSLY interested in the Black and Cobalt Blue Suede centers option?

so if i'm understanding correctly the seat heater are ok for the sti seats. but i am not positive as to where to wire up the switch if you have the one for the passenger by the hand brake. would you have to modify or add wire to hook it up by the intercooler spray and light adjuster? thanks in advance for taking the time to answer this question:)

Dear Members,

The reason I asked the last question was because if we have enough interest in that specific interior then we could do special group buy pricing on it. The problem is that may alienate you guys from members that want to do something traditional so to speak.

I guess we have 3 that are very interested so far then?

I will post entire pics of my new interior once I get some more hog rings in the mail Friday. Install has gone fairly well so far. I only had one problem so far. One of the front seat covers just wasn't tight enough on the side bolster. I just added a couple more hog rings to help pull it tighter.

I ran out half way through the rear seat.

Save the following directions because it will save you tons of time and hastle.

http://users.rcn.com/wgknestrick/Seat%20Installation/
Follow these directions, but add my advice:

A good tip for everyone doing these is to use small "channel-lock" pliers on the outside of the 6 big phillips head screws in the rear arm rest. They make short work of what could easily be stripped screws. I did the rear arm rest in <45min total. Take your time and ensure that all the panels are tight and in place. Getting all the wrinkles out makes theAlso make sure to use the metal bars everywhere they are used in the OEM interior. Leatherseats puts paper tubing in to replace these, but they tend to wrinkle the seats more. Just push the paper tubing out and use the metal ones instead. job look professional and OEM. This is the difference from "wow" reactions and "I think you did a decent job on those"

So what all is included in this price? Full front and rear seat covers? Door inserts?

Buyers: Discount: Price:

10..................16%.............$570.36

also, i noticed the seat heater switches dont match the stock ones in the canadian cars...any way i could get just the switch out of you? :) how much do you want for it?

actually, how much for this whole setup? (assuming the carbon fiber black color costs more, if not, thats cool)

Hey - those instructions look mighty familiar ;)

Gotta complete those damned things one of these days!

Heh - check your name on pg 1, scroll down below the blue leather pics and see if your name is on the list - I tried to grab everybody I could. This is the 6th buy, and we have yet to "close it" until we reach at least 20, so I put your name down with the assumption that if past performance is any gaurantee of future results, we should have 20 people.

Heh.. I'm sure there's a huge difference. The wagon seats actually fold down unlike the sedan... so the hardware itself is different.

I've tried on a few occasions to figure out how to remove my seat backs.. then got lazy and worked around them.

Here's some questions to some answers - if I missed any, feel free to repost!

1. Embroidery - They CANNOT do any copyright logo embroidery any longer. During the first GB (almost 2 years ago now...) they were able to do all sorts of stuff, but now since Subaru of America will not allow WRX, they were still allowed to do STi. Of course, now that the STi is stateside, and SOA has a US trademark protection, they are NO LONGER ABLE TO OFFER WRX or STi :(

*HOWEVER* If you want some embroidery, I highly suggest you check out the "Dressup and Style" forum - look at the top of the page and behold the goodness of http://headrestembroidery.com/ This should satisfy most of you looking for the bling that you require. The quality is top notch, and yes, they can do embroidery of leather too.

2. No specific wagon install instructions that I'm aware of. But there have been quite a number of successful installers in the past. Check out the previous 3 GB's for pics from people with wagons, and PM/email them for advice. Again, it's true that it can't be that hard. And while you wagon owners have to fight with your folding back seats, just remember us sedan owners had to fight with the damned arm rest!!! :o

3. The front and the rear seat patterns match - they're identical. So unless somebody was hoping for mismatched front and rear seats, just know that this "kit" includes all the stuff for the passenger and driver front seats, and the rear bench/fold down (wagon) seats, and the door panels. (Which are the trickiest of the bunch)

4. Homemade WRX - PM or email Eric, but I am 99% sure they have a pattern for the 94 Impreza seats. They'll be a welcome addition to your interior and your butt. I agree, after I had my 93 in 2001, my arse was hurtin for something a bit more comfy. Eric can confirm for sure, but there should be no problem getting your seat pattern.

5. FryRice - I take it you have racing seats in the front? Eric will have to get back to you on the pricing for that. Also, I do not believe leatherseats.com can put the Prodrive logo on the rear seat - copyright infringement, again.

Nope, no WRX either. :(

Too bad. Looks very plain without it.

I wonder if I have the covers shipped to my dealer if they would do it then? My sales guy would take ownership of it for me. And they could install it there. ;)

CirrusWRX
09-21-2003, 07:04 PM
^You could try it. There is a chance a dealer (AFAIK) is allowed to put on WRX or STi, but most of the time they would just say 'no' since it's not a Subaru product. Again, you'd have to first check with a dealer than with Eric @leatherseats.com ANother thing you could try to do is look for a local embroider'er who does stuff like t-shirts, sweatshirts, fleeces, etc... If you can get a digital logo, chances are most WILL do it. My local one wouldn't only because she was afraid her machine couldn't handle the leather, and it would turn out bad.

This is what he emailed me a few weeks ago. I tried to get the ok to post it up but he never got back to me so here it is:

"I ran the numbers and here are some package prices for two tone Black leather with Flat Non Perf Cobalt Suede inserts combo and Blue double stitching in Premium leather content.

Buyers: Price:
1....................$899.00
3....................$799.00
5....................$749.00
10..................$699.00

We will be including a yard of the blue suede for the doors in these above prices which is an $85.00 value. That would be extra on a normal group buy.

To get these prices the order would have to be for exactly what is listed above as far as options."

leatherseats.com

Dear DubuRX,

I never saw your question until now... what seat covers are we referring to there? I mean what car does your son drive? Is it not a pattern we have? Let me know.

Dear Members,

As I mentioned I was out of the office for 4 days so I am catching up on emails. As for the exact pricing, it will depend on how many buy. All you have to do us take the base price that you think we will achieve and add the options you want. I will do an estimation for you at the 20 buyer discount.

Leather.......................$529.62
Suede inserts...............$85.00
Flat non perf.................$25.00
Premium upgrade.........$85.00
Color double stitching...$10.00
Yard of Suede...............$80.00
Shipping...........................FREE

TOTAL.........................$814.62

If you want to do perforation as seen in the pics above the charge is $50.00 instead of the usual $25.00. It is A LOT more difficult to perf our suede than it is to perf the leather.

Dear FryRice.

I emailed you the rear seat pricing. The prodrive logos would just cost you the price of the digitization. I would guess about $75.00 or so, but it depends on the stitch-count and number of colors.

Dear Lenyx,

I wish you had waited for a go ahead from us about posting those numbers. Those group buy numbers are very valid, but they may cause confusion here. Everyone is going to want to know why the prices are lower! Basically those prices are lower because every member would be ordering the EXACT same thing to the T which means we can produce 5 or 10 of the exact same interior at once. This is much much easier for us. Those prices are for the Flat non perf suede. The Perf would be the $50.00 more. They also don't include logos of any kind. This is a great way to go if everyone can agree on getting the exact same interior.

Thanks,
Eric

Eric - Although I had tried to email you asking if I could post those prices a few weeks ago, I hear where you're coming from an apologize if I jumped the gun. It seems like alot of people are interested in the combo and I wanted to get the info out there so people could start budgetting ;)

Is there a downside to going with perf VS non perf? What are the advantages? I'm assuming the seat heaters work better with the perf.. is there a durability issue between the two?

PS - Will the pricing stand if you have 9 out of 10 orders come in for sedans.. and then me and/or someone else order for a wagon?

leatherseats.com
09-24-2003, 11:17 AM
Dear Lenyx,

No problem... hopefully everyone will read and understand the differences.

The downside to perf is that it takes a bit longer to get your kit. I don't think that there would be any durability issues at all. The heat probably won't travel much faster through the perf than it would through the flat suede... the covers are still backed by the polyesther foam.

That pricing is for Sedans specifically, but I can probably include a few Wagons. The wagons have a bit more material and labor time, but we can work it.

I'm interested in this group buy but not quite sure yet. The colors that match the wrx's interior door panels and dashboard is Dark Graphite right?. And the silver trim around the radio bezel matches Light grey???? If this is true how much will be a two-tone leather/suede setup cost with grey or silver double stiching and perforation cost? I want something like this but replacing the middle with suede and adding double stiching, is this possible?

leatherseats.com

Dear Bringndef,

In my opinion the dove grey is the best second color that you could use in the WRX interior. There really is not a color that would match the dash silver color that well. It is kind of a metallic textured color. The Dove grey is a great match to the headliner and A-Pillers and that is why I recommend it. As far as suede goes, it is kind of hard to match suede to a solid color on a plastic or vinyl surface. It is kind of like carpet the color match is very relative to the viewer and the color does change depending on which way the suede is rubbed. The cost for perforating the leather is $25.00, but if you want perforated suede it will be $50.00. It is much more difficult, time consuming, and labor intensive to perf the suede correctly. The double stitching is $10.00. The leather suede combo would be $85.00 on top of whatever price we achieve with this group buy.

Dear SubyWRXer,

The group buy is currently running so if you are interested in being put on the list please let me or CirrusWRX know.

I think another headcount would be a great idea!

Dear SubyWRXer,

The price for the kit you want at the 10 buyer level will be:

Product: Price:
Leather.......................$570.36
premium upgrade.........$85.00
Red Double Stitching....$10.00
shipping.......................$25.00

TOTAL.........................$690.36

We can't just add the carbon fiber black door inserts to a single tone leather kit so that will be an extra on the side. The carbon fiber door insert option is $180.00. The best thing to do would be to buy the carbon fiber leather on the side and cut the doors yourself. You can buy a 1/4 hide of the carbon fiber hide for $120.00 or 1/2 hide for $225.00. All that said, I would highly suggest not doing the doors in the carbon fiber leather. It is very very thick and very very hard to install correctly on a contoured door like the WRX has. Even the pro-installer has a good chance of messing up a few of these very expensive pieces.

Thanks,

I have the kit in my wagon. Everything you need is included except the hog ring pliers and rings (to re-attach the cloth to the seat). Assuming the price Eric listed at the start of the thread.. you're looking at around $200 for everything.

I know what you mean Cyro, this GB seems to be dragging on a bit. How fast did the other ones wrap up in the past? Hope it isn't due to the increase in pricing. It is still a quality product IMO at this price assuming we could get 20 people.

The group buy does seem to be dragging on. We used to be able to get 20 + buyers in a month. It has been longer than that and we are having trouble getting 10. I know it is not the price because it is really not that much higher than it was last time and it is below what it was the 4 group buys before that. Let me know if anyone has any ideas of what we can do to get things going.

I was part of the 4th group buy. Eric was great to work with and service was amazing.

The kit was a very strait forward installation and looks great.

Count me in again in this group buy. However I can't seem to find all the colors on your web site. Do you have the new color found in the Volvo S60R and V70R called Atacama or cinnamon ? If so, I'm all in ! I will switch my current interior in my GF's car and off I go with this new one.

Let me know !

I recently decided that the leather can wait. Money is tight right now after getting another speeding ticket too. I apologize. Best of luck though.

OK - we're up to 8 now. I think 10 is the more likely number. In the past, we always had people clammoring like there was no end in sight. I think the issue now is that a lot of the people who wanted leather got it in the past - heck, it's like 100+ people so far. As you guys see, the difference in price between the 10 and 20 number is basically $40.00 -- if everybody is down with getting 10 people, I think it can happen within a week or two, but the price would be for 10, not 20. Please double-check your names to make sure I'm not forgetting anybody.

Likewise, this is "your" group buy - think of me like a pseudo-moderator. I am also a leatherseats.com whore - I was SO thrilled (and continue to be thrilled every time I sit in my car) with their products+service that I'm here to help you guys make decisions, answer questions, help with install questions, etc... So if all 8 of you decide "20 people or bust," so be it. But if there is a general consensus that 10 people will work, and you're willing to pay the $40.00 - you should be able to get the goods soon.

Dear Ti-REX,

I know that you sent me pics of that Volvo leather color, but from what I remember we don't have anything like that color. The only thing I could do is have a hide custom dyed. It is very expensive and there would be no vinyl match so you would have to pay for a 100% leather kit made from extra expensive leather. Just to make sure we are on the same page... can you email me or post pics of the Volvo interior so I can see them again.

Thanks,

Louie,

Yes, actually this has been brought up in previous group buys. From what I remember the seat covers use special stitching around the air bag area so they would just tear apart if the air bags should deploy. That's the same way the factory seats are constructed I believe.

Is anyone unfortunate enough to have any experience with the air bag deploying with these seat covers?

CirrusWRX

Nobody has (knocking on wood) had to test it out, but smokewrx's description is right on the money. They use what I think is called a "french seam" which is supposedly strong, but tears easily from the "inside" (when the bag blows out.) I must admit though, I have NEVER seen a side airbag go off. I'm sure it has, but I have yet to run across one NASIOC crash photo where one has deployed - if anybody knows of one, let me know. But it is easy to tell which seat is the left and which is the right on the inside of the leather cover - it has a special "seam/cover" thingy which sits right on top of the airbag in the event it goes off.

PS: Hey CirrusWRX thanks for trying to keep this dieing thread alive.

leatherseats.com

Dear Members,

This has been explained, but I can go into a little more detail. The outside seat bolster seams are sewn with a 70lb thread as opposed to the usual 110lb thread that is used. This thread allows the airbag to break through the seam and deploy properly. It has been tested on quite a few cars since about 1997. In fact, recently I had a guy order a set of two replacement backrest covers for a WRX Sedan interior. I asked him why he needed those parts and he said that the rolled the car and both bags deployed through the bolster seams. The insurance company paid for the backrests... I think he was planning on taking the rest of the leather covers back out and installing them on his new WRX.

Thanks,

Dear Members,

This thread seems to be slowing down... what can we do to get it going?

Also, Ti-Rex, I found what I think will work for the leather you want for your WRX. You wanted something with that earthy orangey, redish brown. I think something similar to the Ford F-150 King Ranch leather would work. The down side to the S60R leather and leathers like this is that the hides are a bit more expensive than normal and there is no vinyl match to this leather which means you will have to order a 100% leather kit to get this done.

Thanks

Dear Ti-Rex,

Also, and I quote from an article on the S60R...

"The deep-contoured sports seats in the Volvo S60R are available in exclusive untreated aniline leather as an option, a natural leather which means that the interior, with time, takes on a completely individual patina."

This means that it is almost impossible to color match these hides to one another... each one comes out very very slightly different and over time they change dramatically.

First post, be easy on me.

I am really tempted by this (read this whole thread many times). I want the leather to be same colors as factory seats on my '04 WRX/STi (what is the blue color called?) I would also like the seat heaters.

My concern is the install. I want it to be perfect. I can do some mechanical work, but installing the leather seat covers is making me really apprehensive. I don't want to mess things up or have it look like crap when completed.

Help me decide, any thoughts are appreciated.

Installation You can probably pay a local installer between $300-400 to install your leather. It *should* be perfect at that price. I did mine myself, and I'm not exactly the handiest person around (IMO) and I tried to make up some instructions for other peeps to help them along.

The other thing to try is to see if anybody is in your area from the past GB's who have installed leather. Or if you want to fly me out there, I'd be more than glad :D Preferrably after a huge snowfall!

As for Hiroki Tada's question --
1) I can almost say without a shred of doubt that they have a pattern for a 2002 legacy sedan, but Eric can confirm for sure.

2) Please explain exactly what you mean by "pieces instead of a whole set..." Do you mean that you want only the rear seats and door panel material since you already have STi seats?? If that's the case, then I *think* they can do that, but again, Eric can confirm for sure.

We are on the verge of 10 people - are you all on the list? If you are on the list, are you going to be able to pay up when the time comes?!?

I've trying to drum up some more interest in this GB on a local Canadian board. However, people seem a bit concerned about the brokerage and duties they may end up paying for these. I was in the fourth GB and Eric shipped everything directly to my doorstep in Canada.

With the NAFTA agreement, there are no duties on trades as long as the stuff is made in Canada, USA or Mexico. However, you will have to pay for GST and PST on the price you paid for the seat covers. If I recall, I think I paid 168 CAD$ for brokerage fees and GST + PST. Now that the CAD value is higher, it should even be lower than this.

Overall, this kit will cost you shipped to your door around 1,000 CAD$. Well worth it if you ask me.

Again, for the people without the Impreza's, you will be "counted" just not in the total of 10 - looks like we have to have Impreza people for that discount to take effect. Attached is a link w/ some feedback (on the STI org) about leather seats. I think the general concensous is that leather isn't what the car is "about". But, there will always be a people that want and will pay for the added luxury, like me.

Siper2
11-17-2003, 11:12 AM
Performance/racer folk will never go for leather. Expensive, heavy, not as grippy as cloth. But then there's those of us in between, who both like to drive hard but also realize that leather's a nice thing to have. :D Holds up way better than cloth, is much easier to care for, and just plain looks better.

I have a point to make about the STi, though. I haven't read the replies dictating why STi leather can't be made, but.... it's been my understanding that the STi (USDM) seats are exactly the same as the WRX seats, only with the blue fabric on top. Same deal with the old GC Impreza cars overseas: the WRXs got a grey/black cloth, while the STi cars got the same seats, just with a fancier black/red cloth combo (and an "STi" embroidery up top).

Am I wrong?

Dear Siper2,

From what I have found out the problem is not the front seats, but the rears. The rears of the STi don't have a split or an armrest built in... they are just solid all the way across. From everything I have heard and seen on the fronts they are the same.

What about leather/suede for all those die-hard racer folds?

Thanks

Ahhh okay, it's the rears. In that case I understand; I did know about the rear pass-through thing.

Suede/Alcantara is definitely a plus for those who want to upgrade from cloth, but don't like "slippery" leather. So I say definitely keep it on the options list. :)

The color you have seen in example pics is probably our Maize yellow leather. It is a vibrant bright race yellow color. Yes, but that was an '03 WRX, not an '04. The '04 WRXs get new seats and a new steering wheel (red Momo logo vs. the yellow you had) on the interior, to go along with the new exterior changes. It's the '04 WRX seats I'm referring to. I know about the '02-'03 seats.

ahhh, gotcha :) nevermind then.

I keep hearing different things about the canada and the US cars though. some people are insisting that the canadian seats are slightly smaller, others are insisting they are identical. I dont know who to believe.

Dear Members,

I checked with our national sales rep and he said that, since are are stuggling so hard to even get to the 10 buyer break, if we get 8 members to buy we will award the full 10 person price break. I know we are very very close and so maybe this will pull some other members over the top to commit. Here is what the list looks like so far... let me know if anything has changed.

Dear Members,

I have great news... we are going to be patterning the rear seats of the new STi and combined with the WRX HB Bucket fronts we will have a pattern.

Thanks,

What about the Canadian spec STi? The rear bench seat on the Canadian STi has rear-pass through, so it is a different seat than the US one. Also, I have heard mixed information about whether or not the front buckets on the Canadian STi is smaller. I will look into this more.

Dear Members,

The pattern for the STi should be ready by Monday. We did also repattern the fronts seats in the STi just to make sure... it seems that the bottom cushion was a bit bigger in the STi than in the WRX.

If the Canadian models have the rear armrest then it is probably the same interior as the WRX... I don't know for sure though. Please do check into that.

Here is a new list... we are at 9 as of now.

CirrusWRX,

If you had 4 confirmed, and MJBrowny21 is willing to join in, maybe we can go for the 5-person discount (provided everyone that responded is still willing to participate at the 5-person pricing)?

Dear Members,

Because this group buy basically went south here at the end we are going to offer a special promo price to all those who stuck with it here. Through the end of the year you can order a custom made WRX leather interior for 15% off or retail just for being a member of NASIOC... that is $577.15 + options + $25.00 shipping. Just call

1-866-639-7328 ext 104

to order. Even if you don't have the money ready by tommorrow you can call and get this price I will hold your order until the new year if need be.

Dear FryRice,

I have no idea what you meant by that question please explain further.

Thanks,
Eric

So, you guys have the pattern for the U.S. spec STi seats now and it is available to order? If so, I need to do some research here in Bavaria to find some to install...maybe a local BMW or Merc dealer can point me in the right direction.

I just wanted to know if you offer leather seat covers for other cars? Specifically a 2003 Jeep Liberty Sport Freedom Edition? My wife would love these. If so and you can get close to the full discount I might be in for 2 sets.
