If any of you are considering the RS3, wait for the 3.5. We got them in the other day and they are better than the RS3 because:

-Remote is much slimmer, but it still only comes with 1

-Remote now matches the other Clifford remotes, so it's like a carbon fiber look

-BUILT IN TURBO TIMER, just like the higher end stuff

-5 Channels

-MUCH smaller relay pack for the remote start (this will be standard on all DEI remote starts going forward)

Looks very cool. Now I wish I would have waited instead of getting the Avital 3300.

Yeah they sell the RS3.5 for $499 (which includes installation), I figure that that is a pretty good deal, but they aren't going to install the remote start feature on my manual 04WRX, right?

i'm no wiring genius like some others on this forum but i'm going to try tackling the install myself. not only will i save some money but i will have the piece of mind that everything will be installed just the way i want it (hiding all the wires, brain etc along with hooking up the remote start with manual trans). i have the advice of extremely smart ppl on this forum along with some friends who will help me along. so i feel confident that everything will turn out alright.

I made an appointment to have the RS3.5 installed Wed--so I am driving down from Boston for the day--anyone in Conn. going to be around? BTW they said they will do everything for 499.00.

Just find out in advance exactly what "everything" means. Does it include hiding the brain not under the driver's side dash, disguising the wiring by running it inside factory looms, installing the siren where it and/or its wires can't be easily yanked out or cut with the hood open or closed, battery backups for brain and/or siren, etc?

Will it be possible to swap remotes with this thing? I have a viper 790xv and I think my remote control is too bulky...:(

first off, i know nothing about hooking up an alarm. i was told that you can't have the remote start if you have a manual transmission but i was wondering if the turbo timer feature is affected at all by what type of transmission you have. any idea?

it's true that installing a remote start system in a manual transmission vehicle is considered illegal and very dangerous. fortunately the subaru has a neutral position switch within the transmission. when the vehicle is in gear the neutral position switch sends a ground signal to the ECU.

you can utilize this to prevent remote start from ocurring by tapping the Neutral Posisition wire to the Hood Pin input of the alarm/remote start system.

the turbo timer feature of the viper system is similar to the short stop feature. it should use the same set of safety checks for remote start for the turbo timer feature.

Okay I called Danny of XX Tuning and made an appointment too for next Tuesday, the 23rd.

Please tell us how the install went ok? I would really like to know. I talked to Danny the owner and he says that when he hooks up the RS3.5 and enable the turbo timer he will lock it to how long you want the turbo timer to work. The RS3.5 gives you something like 1, 3, 5 and 15 I think minutes. If he enables the Turbo Timer then the car will always end up being in neutral which is the ideal position for autostart. =)

it would be wise to hook up the ecu's neutral position wire to the hood pin input to ensure the vehicle does not remote start in gear! ie. someone can easily lean into the vehicle and flip it in gear etc...

first of all, i think the viper 790 xv is a good alarm, better then the clifford. i got my 790 xv for $350 installed with the remote start. :lol:

Huh? Viper and Clifford are both owned by DEI. The Clifford Matrix RSIII is the same as the 790xv except it has a couple of better Clifford components from what I've heard. There is no way the Viper would be better than the Clifford imo. However, the Matrix line is a lower-end Clifford line that was started up by DEI. I prefer the Intelliguard or Avantguard series personally. I chose to go with the features of the Intelliguard series instead of the 2-way paging of the Matrix RSIII. I felt a 2-way pager is a useless toy since the one time you are out of range is the time when you will get jacked. There is no sure way to prevent theft, so I opted for the Intelliguard with it coded valet, anti-car-jacking, clifford components, etc.

I am going down to Wethersfield (XXTuning), CT to get the alarm installed today--I will let you all know how it goes later tonight.

For the rest of you considering going to XXTuning, the RS3.5 install went very well--these guys are resourceful when dealing with a new product, and they know the REX inside-out...it is a cool alarm...and after watching them do the install, I was impressed, I still wouldn't try it myself--it impressed me that they knew so much about Tuning and car electronics, not to mention alarm details...it was worth the cost of the labor...they even went out of their way to give me a ride to and from a local gym while my car was being worked on. PM me for any more info about my experience.

NetZ--your on-line info was a help to me during the install, it is awesome that you took the time to post the 2004WRX/STI ECU wiring inormation!!!!! You are a good guy!

Just remember the Neutral Position Switch within the transmission
may fail and not properly send a 'ground' signal while in gear.

So, it makes sense to once in a while test your NPS by remote
starting in gear. Have your foot on the brake pedal to quickly
turn off the remote start.

Also, that harness they are referring to is just a regular turbo
timer harness. This way, it makes the starter kill/remote start
wiring quick and easy!

Make sure the installer properly hides those connections!

I thought they were only charging $499 for the alarm including install? Seems like theres a catch?

i think xxtuning's site mentioned something about any additional parts and/or labor. still not bad. but if you install it yourself....

remember tax and the turbo timer harness... will probably
equal that amount! if you have a hookup for viper alarms
you can easily save a few hundred on labor as well.
