View Full Version : 2.5RS mudflap on STi (pics)
markpaco 09-16-2003, 12:32 AM I installed my set of 2.5RS mudflaps after someone's post that said that you can do it. The modification needed to fit it was not as easy as I had thought but was able to get it to match up pretty well using a heat gun. If I didn't have the heat gun I would of been SOL. The rear bolts up fine. But because of the side sill the front mud guard obviously did not match up. And there is a gap inside the wheel well because of the side sill. The mud guard has drain holes but I could imagine mud and leaves getting jammed up in there over time. Here are some pics.

I just wish I had them a week ago! It is hard to see but the inner bumper cover is chewed up from gravel impacts.

jagcars26 09-16-2003, 11:02 AM Nice job,,,,That was my thread on the RS mudflaps. After i posted i realized it was a bit easier fr me with the fronts.Having a black car, although my trimming was not as exact as yours,,you dont notice any small gaps as much as you would on the other colors.
Still a good alternative flap that doesnt cost an arm and a leg and still protects the car some.

Mister Toro 09-16-2003, 05:19 PM Part numbers, please?
Are you using the J1010FE230 that was used on the 02-03 RS? I would assume these are different because of the shape of the rear, but I can't find part numbers for the 04 RS.
wgknestrick 09-16-2003, 07:38 PM Nice pics. How about one that shows the whole car with the flaps, so we can see what they add (or detract) from the car.
markpaco 09-16-2003, 10:56 PM The part number is J1010FE270 as posted by 'jagcars26'. $79.96 from www.allsubaru.com + $5 shipping.
DrBiggly 09-21-2003, 01:09 PM Looks good!
nate49509 09-24-2003, 12:23 AM Has anyone seen the mudflaps for the Forester. It looks like they might fit the RS side skirts.
markpaco 09-28-2003, 02:23 AM The part I listed is supposedly for the 2.5RS
markpaco 10-19-2003, 11:46 PM Here's a pic of the car with the mud flaps

lupohki 10-23-2003, 08:51 AM I mistakenly ordered the 03 RS mud flaps. While you don't need to trim anything to have front or back be able to attach, neither side is flush, but I'll live with it.

'04 outback sport has mudflaps.. but they are the 2nd tone color.. dunno if they would match a "normal" impreza
happysti 12-03-2003, 10:19 PM I ordered a set of the 2.5 RS splash guards and was wondering what you did to get the front bottom side bolt installed. It is under the side sill, and the only way I can see to get the mudflap on is to cut the plastic body side sill to get at the bolt. Is that what you did? Or did you leave that bolt off?
I have the Subaru part number J1010FE230 version. Does anyone know what the difference is for the J1010FE270 stock number? Thanks for any additional info you may have on these installs.
markpaco 12-04-2003, 08:48 AM I cut a hole in the plastic side sill (body kit) but realized that the bolt was too short to go through both the plastic sill and mud flap and into the body. So I ran the bolt from the inside out such that you could see the end of the bolt stick out from the hole. I then put a nut and washer on it. Ideally, I would have gotten a longer bolt that would go throught the mud flap and plastic side sill

nexus sw21 11-01-2007, 03:10 PM how come i cant see any pix.?
kimball 11-08-2007, 05:24 PM for my 2004 sti,i used the base sedan guards-use a stanley or exacto knife to trim the fronts to curve around the rockers(small gaps are unavoidable) and to trim off the plastic in front of the bottom bolt hole-it looks good and works well, esp with wide wheels/tires
