When i first got my car i noticed that the higher i turned the fan up the more static i would get when listening to AM radio.

After a couple of months it went away but has since returned.
What could be causing this? It doesn't do it when listening to FM or when listening to CD/tape player.

A bad ground wire on your radio. Is it stock or aftermarket? If it's stock I'm surprised. If it's aftermarket, move the ground wire somewhere else and see if it goes away.

Wait a sec, you said AM only. AM is very sensitive to electrical interference. You may have to live with it.

Grimlock, you could still be correct with the ground wire.

Dingo Dave, what frequency are you picking up? Check that versus the fan motor rate--you'll need a tech manual. You might have luck at the service department, and you might not.

Got anything plugged into your cigarette lighter? On Fords, the two used to share a ground.
