Has anyone located any good remote trunk release kits for the impreza? Specifically gc8 RS's? I've looked around but can't seem to find any.

You want the trunkmonkies to be able to let themselves out?!?!?!?!?! What's this world coming to?

Is it possible to wire the 522T to work with the factory alarm and key fob? Maybe arrange it so that instead of the way it works now:

1 button press -- opens driver's side door
2 button press -- opens all doors

to work like:

1 button press -- opens all doors
2 button press -- triggers trunk release

I guess my question is... how is the factory stuff wired. Anybody have any links or diagrams?

Has anyone had a lot of experience with the DEI trunk pop? I asked my DEI dealer several times about getting it, but he strongly advised me NOT to get it. He said the aftermarket solenoids don't last, and it'll need to be replaced pretty frequently.

I just think it'd be quite useful...

Has anyone purchased the DEI 522T? Comments?

I don't know how much this helps you but I had an alarm system installed w/remote start, and they added a trunk motor so that is now one of my buttons (trunk release). If you wany more info on this let me know. It is a diff car so I didn't know how helpful this would be...

I have wired a trunk release solenoid into my factory system. It works like KwikSilvr described, one click unlocks all doors and two pops the trunk. There are two wires on the remote control box that get energized when you hit the unlock button, the first goes to the driver door the other goes to the last three. Simply cut the wire going to the other three and splice it into the one going to the driver. The leftover wire coming from the control box should get attached to a relay which powers the solenoid to pop the trunk. I mounted the relay behind the carpet where the jack is and the solenoid near the trunk latch. I have the solenoid yank the wire that is usually for people stuck in the trunk. I bought a universal kit on eBay for 20 bucks, I just didn't use half the kit and I had to buy the relay from an electronics store.

I can explain more if you are still thinking about it.

Yes, please. I've read that rewiring the remote can cause problems with the lock/unlock switch on the doors. Are you experiencing anything like that?

Yes, hitting the unlock button on the door to activate the power door can pop my trunk, but I never use it so it doesn't bother me.

Unfortunatley that's not an option for me then. Any way to wire it up to work with the remote and keep the door buttons normal?

They already can, using the emergency trunk release lever located inside the trunk. ;)

Technically, it is possible but it would not be trivial.

Care to elaborate? I'm not afraid to put some work into this; I just want to be sure I know what I'm doing before I start.

Sorry to resurrect this old post, but I am about to do this mod to my car the way you've done it.

Have you tried using your door lock button? Technically, the way you've wired it shouldn't pop the trunk. Only lock and unlock all the doors. The trunk pop should only work with the keyless (and the manual cable release).

Just curious...
