View Full Version : Brightstar HID kit
freeze 09-29-2003, 06:06 PM Anyone know much about the Brightstar HID kit? Any input is appreciated good or bad? Importhookup is selling the 5000k kit, but I haven't heard much about Brightstar. Also I have seen the mazdamp3 website selling first gen McColloughs (sp?) for pretty cheap too ($260 in the group buy for 5300k), any thoughts on that HID kit? Thanks
aspenwhitewrx 09-29-2003, 11:46 PM The Brightstar kit is really nice. It doesn't blind people and you can see a lot farther ahead on the road. It is truly plug and play and all you have to do is just mount the ballasts and igniter with the screws and double sided tape that is provided. the light is a bright white and is not a color that will get the cop's attention.
Hank3 09-30-2003, 10:20 AM The McCulloch ones from the GB at the Mazdamp3 site are really nice kits. There were three kits purchased between my friends and they all seem very happy with them - especially for the price!!!
bluestone 09-30-2003, 11:12 AM hank, what color did they get and do you have any pics?
i just ordered the 5300k kit from him and will probably have it on within the next two weeks so i'll post again
Drew888 10-03-2003, 03:02 PM How can you be sure you are not aggrivating oncoming traffic?
I like the upgrade and am thinking about it but...every kit I have seen still blinds oncoming traffic.
As a driver without a HID kit I come across many people with them and it's been soo anoying that I wish I could run them all off the road (only a thought :P ).
I was under the impression that to do it right the housing had to be designed for HID.
Drew,
bahboy20 10-04-2003, 04:03 AM I was wondering who to contact at mazdamp3.com for the group buy, because I didnt see a 9007 kit listed.
Also, which would you recommend the mccullough first gen kit or the brightstar kit? Why?

bluestone - sorry for the delay of this post. I had forgotten about it :o Check the following thread (it'll start with pics of my HID setup) and then through the rest of the pages as there are more pics of the HID kits that was purchased in the group buy. They currently have another HID group buy (5300k kits for under $300), so you have to look up HID group buy 2.

Here's the link for the current GB - you can just request them to get you an H7 kit. djerickd on here got an H7 kit from them in the first group buy. The vendor is "uhohitzmikey" and the person in charge of the GB is "SpicyMSP." Contact either of them for more info. They're great to work with. You can see pics in the thread I posted above from the first group buy.

the bulb is a 9007....i believe the morettes are h7 though...
Mulder 10-06-2003, 08:59 AM 9007 (stock 02-03) and H7 (Morette) are not the same.
Installing HIDs in the stock reflector housings is far more likely to produce glare than with projector housings. If you are determined to do this, be sure the kit uses D2R type HID bulbs which are designed for use in reflectors and have an anti-glare mask on them, and aim them carefully. Because of the extra light produced they should be aimed considerably lower than with halogens, this is true for projectors converted to HID as well.
bluestone 10-06-2003, 03:01 PM hank thanks for the link, the light pattern looks really nice. i just got my kit, do you have any pics of where you mounted the ballasts? the passenger side has very little room behind the headlight with the airbox there. (i have an 04 wrx) thanks.
Hank3 10-06-2003, 03:36 PM bahboy20 - the GB is still going on for sure. I just checked the thread this morning and the vendor started up the list. There are 3 or so signed up when I checked. Double-check and click the link I posted above.
bluestone - just an FYI, I'm not using the McCullochs. I've got the Philips 4300K kit going through my Prodrive projectors. I stuck one ballast in front of the battery and the other tucked down in the area by the holes that go into the fender well.

here's a pic of the lights (Brightstar) mounted in my forester headlights and one fog light. As you can see, they are very white in color andas soon as Tim gets the istall pics up you'll see how clean the system is. It's truly plug and play. Check the thread out in Vendor for sale section as well.

bahboy20 10-07-2003, 02:32 PM Like I was suggested to find out--
Are the bulbs D2R type HID bulbs? Do they have an anti glare mask on them? Are they specifically designed for reflectors, or for projectors?
