View Full Version : Gauging interest in molded carpets that actually fit

NinosAutoAccesories
10-06-2003, 01:18 PM
I have a deal going with a carpet manufacturer to produce some carpets for the 93-01 Impreza's...

These will be available in dozens of different colors and are going to be a giant leap in quality compared to stock carpeting.

My fear as with everyone else is the fitment.I know previous group buys for carpet have left people with a bad taste in their mouth, so I asked for one to be sent to me, If all is good and the fitment is as promised I was curious if anyone would be interested.

Pricing will fall in the 200 shipped range and delivery is within 2 weeks of GB close. (new OEM carpet is over 250 from the dealer)

Let me know....

Yeah, stock carpet in the impreza really does sux. I would be interested if you could get one for the 95-99 legacy, which is about two inches longer.

I am very interested in this. I would like it in black.

Here are some things I would like to know.

Does the new carpet have the mounting tabs and things for stock attachment? This was an issue in the last carpet GB. It was a pita to install.

Will the carpet be one piece or several. I am pretty sure the OEM carpet is one piece, but that would require removing all of your interior:center console, seats, etc. I would be happy if it was one piece.

Can we get heel protectors added to the carpet; ie a patch or double layer of carpet where the throttle foot heel rests? This is where most carpet wears.

Is the carpet a name brand, ie can we go look at color swatches anywhere.

I think thats it.

Thanks for doing this anyway.

OK, I got it today and the carpet itself is great.Nice thick pile.

I haven't went for install yet because I was busy trying to get the car started first, I will attepmt the install this weekend. It looks to be molded pretty good, but I cant be sure till I install it. I did notice that none of the cutoputs are there though. So It will need some trimming and cutting to fit.

I don't think people are reading this thread correctly...

This possible group buy is for carpet for a GC model (see pre-2002 in the US) Impreza.... I don't think the carpets are the same for the new model.

Would you be willing to do this with a different suplier. I think a lot of people really wanted this group by to go through. Maybe you could check out these guys http://www.acsdorsettcarpet.com/. It looks like they have quality capret and a wide assortment of colors, but i don't know how much they cost. The carpet is molded and looks like it doesn't need any trimming. I don't know if this is even an option for you but i thought i would give it a try.

I bought that aftermarket carpet that needed serious trimming, and i do agree that it needs serious mods to make it fit. However, if you take everthing out, pretty much follow what was slit/cut for the stock carpet, you are well on your way to a beautiful interior. The real problems came with leaving enough for the back seat area to go under the seat, trimming the corners, which i did not do, and the door sill area for the front doors. If you have a day and a half, and take your time using the daylight, this may be the project for you! Best of luck, i'm going to in the future buy another kit and spend some serious time and effort with it, make sure to get the thickest option available and a nice exacto knife! Vacuuming it is a dream compared to the stocker!

Amen. If anyone comes out with a high quality aftermarket carpet that's pre-trimmed and has ALL the holes, plugs, attachments, etc, etc, it's worth more like $500 for all the time you'll save.

I did the first GB for RS carpet. Took a full day of careful templating, cutting, trimming, etc. and it is still only a satisfactory install. Life's too short...

I hope somebody gets it together to make a quality replacement for my 2002 wagon's carpet. I've seen better quality carpet in a dollhouse. I agree that it it has zero durability, it moves around like a hooker on a submarine, it's hard to clean, it's ugly, and other than that it rocks! I'd definitely pay decent money to replace it with something of quality.

To call it "*****ty" is an insult to *****.

Pay $600 for a nice leather interior but look down and realize you're still standing on a pile of holey garbage. Depressing.

With any luck, the SAAB 9-2 carpet will be quality, right color and right fit. I'm waiting for one to hit a dealer so I can check it out.
