well tonight i was just going out with friends to get a late snack

i was coming down a dark part of the street and saw something my headlights lid up coming towards the right hand side of the car. I thought someone threw something out of their car and it was going to hit mine. Didnt think too much of it to start with but i was relatively concerned it might damage the car.
It happenned all in about 1.5 secs and then i heard a thud. weird noise, not clanging no nothing so i assumed nothing major. well, that is when everything got weird
i noticed a fluffy thing that blew by the windshield from the front of the car, resembling a small feather. when i had to brake to turn into the snacking place, a whole bunch came out!
Ok i am really creeped out at the moment. I got out of the car to check for damage but i cant seem to find any. So i opened up the hood and saw....

A BIRD WITH MOST OF ITS FEATHERS SCATTERED OVER MY INTERCOOLER! well i was pretty freaked, b/c the bird was still alive! mangled but alive. well i am no vet and had no means of saving him. i suppose flying approx 60 km/h into an intercooler would probably kill me too. So i removed its relatively dead carcuss from car and cleared out the remaining feathers.

oh now i understand how someone got a bat caught in their car too! never knew the hood scoop could pull that much crap in!

Yeah I done this twice before and both times with my sister's black RS. First time a crow fly under my car as I was shoulder check for a lane change at about 70kph. Second time was a little birdy at Grouse Mountain (sp?) going 130kph up the hill and it dented the liscence plate and got stuck in the radiator. Poor thing saw me coming and try to fly away but it wasn't fast enough.

This quite disgusting.. and sad... ew.. a bird in your intercooler? At lease your car had a good snack, right?

Things look fine, but it was pretty late. I should check when in the daytime for other damage

Previously i was planning on getting a STi hood scoop for my car, but was planning to match it with a larger IC or other mods to keep it from being overly useless.

But now with this incident it is making me think twice

perhaps consider the kevlar intercooler screen they are selling in the classifieds section.

Would a simple intercooler screen help in case this happens again?

Oh yeah it says right on the side of the box: "Guaranteed to withstand the direct impact of live fowl up to 130kmph."
