View Full Version : 18's on my Subie, what do you think???

Well, i did it. I ordered my 18" Team Dynamics Monza's in Silver w/ blue letters. The tires, Nitto 450's 215/35-18. Rubber bands you say, YOU BETCHA!! Has anyone else out there tried 18's, how do they look. The rolling diameter should be the same as the stock ones, so my spedo should be right on track. Got them shipped from west coast to east for $1700. I know that alot to spend, and i could've considered a turbo, but it's kinda out of the question for me. Too much trouble right now, plus i'm still learning alot about my car and how it works. So this maybe something i would like to try myself on a project car in the near future. Thanks for listening...

Living in fear of potholes and rough railroad tracks is not my idea of cool.

Nor is adding a hundred pounds or so of unsprung weight.

But sure, it probably looks neat. http://www.impreza-rs.com/ubb-files/wink.gif

I'm with Colin. I need 50/55 sidewalls the way I drive. http://www.impreza-rs.com/ubb-files/smile.gif

I've done all the necessary mods to get the performance i want out of it, the rest of it is to just sit back, relax, and enjoy the view. Got S-AFC, 18mm rear sway, front & rear braces, intake, stromung exhaust, underdrive pulley, and mid-pipe. The 18's are for me!! And as far as the weight goes, this is a relatively light wheel, not sure of exact specs yet, but my friend has got a set of 17's and had nothing but good things to say about them.

There is a guy in CO that is putting 18" TE37's on his RS. I don't know if he's gotten them yet, but two weeks ago he was talking about it. Maybe I'll see him sometime and I'll ask.

Someone in Omaha is putting 18's on his RS too. I'll try to get him to post about it...

The way I drive, I need a full rally-spec suspension and some extremely large-sidewalled tires that handle great on tarmac. http://www.impreza-rs.com/ubb-files/wink.gif

Make sure to take pics when you get them on. I hope you don't run into any troubles. http://www.impreza-rs.com/ubb-files/smile.gif

Well if you really wanted something for you shouldn't you have considered replacing your front seats? They look cool and they hold you in when driving really hard. i won't knock the 18's since you already said you were aware of the weight, sidewalls, and the altered driving required to run them. Be careful and remember to get the front end checked for alignment more often. They do look cool but I gave up on the rims I had on my Integra cause they were too large for the roads in the area. Post a pic when you get them on. They are always fun to look at.

Rimmie,

What offset did you get??? this may cause some minor/major problems... I went to the Team Dynamics site and they show the following available for the Monza's:

SIZE OFFSET
6.5x15 e+38/49
7x16 e+38/45/50
7x17 e+18/38/45/50
8x18 e+20/35/40

Hell I have the stock rims w/ Yoko A520's and I can't even have anyone but my 4 year old ride in the back (full grown adults out of the question...) unless I want to rub my tires on the fender...

They are available in a +45mm offset in the 18X7's. I'm not sure about the 18x8's. I wouldn't have bought them if they weren't +45's. Oh yeah, my suspension is H&R, i haven't had anyone in the back seat yet, nor do i intend to, i hope???

Good luck. Minimum offset should be +48mm. I have the Volk Rays TE-37 @ 17 x 7.5 Check out my profile thingy at the member list.

Post any problems when you get them mounted. I just ordered the same wheel, but in 17's.
Thanks.

Whoa!

18"? Thats like with 30 series tires right? Get ready for a filling jarring ride.. My limit is probably what Snoopy did.
17"x7.5J TE37 with 45 series tires and factory offset(??).. I'll probably get the bronze colored ones though.. White rims on a white car?? Thats a little too tacky for me..

The appearance is really a matter of perception. IMHO, when I see someone running around on large diameter wheels and ultra low profile tires, what immediately goes through my mind is that those are performance detractor in handling for high unsprung weight and poor quality ride and performance. The driver made a huge mistake and paying a lot for and has to suffer by living with it and not having fun for buying some real-world set of tires and rims. It doesn't matter if I see them on Subaru, BMW or Honda, the execution was poorly thought out.

These are for show, i've got another set for go. But honestly, i'm not really going to be that concerned about weight until i can get something under the hood that will get me going in the high 14's in the quarter. And right now that just ain't gonna happen with simple bolt on mods. I've already leared away from heavy stereo equipment and i got rid of my tire and jack, so i don't really feel that i've added that much weight to the car, besides my own big as$.

Hi all
Ive got the 18" TE-37's in bronze on the RX7. I got 18 x 8.5 front and 18 x 9.5 rear. fronts check in at 17.4lbs and rears 17.9 according to my analog scale. Lightest wheel ive ever felt and the finish is great. Overall great wheel. If anyone wants to see a pic feel free to Email me. Later.

I stand corrected. I was just informed that the monza's are NOT available in an 18" with a 45mm offset http://www.impreza-rs.com/ubb-files/frown.gif. But the motorsports are!!! So i had to reorder. They will be in next friday. I got silver w/ rally blue letters and center cap. I will post pictures once they get here.

Rimmie,

The offset is really important. Braking with the wrong offset can cause the front tires to be a bit fidgety. Then you have the fenders possibly rubbing. Like I said, +48mm minimum.

SubeTek,

The Yokohama Paradas certainly look really cool but how do they handle? Wet roads? Tire noise? I've been considering them but haven't met anyone who had them until now. Any info would be appreciated http://www.impreza-rs.com/ubb-files/smile.gif
