Next weekend I am taking my 2004 WRX headlights apart to install my Brightstar HID's. I was talking to my boy who said it would look really good if I sprayed inside the headlight where there is NO reflector. He suggested Gunmetal.


Has anyone done this? Specifically on a 2004 WRX? I am probably going to clear out the headlights but I am hesitant about spraying them.

its a very common mod, try doing a search for 'headlight mod' You'll probably find a bunch of threads on it.

not just the headlight mod but taking apart and spraying the out part of the light a different color. I did a search on spraying or or painting the inside of the light and I didnt come up with anything.....

the bulb or the glass?
i did the black headlight mod +pvc and it looks nice, wasn't hard to do either:cool:

See that's the thing... I'm afraid to do that but the pictures of it look SO HOT. MUCH MUCH MUCH better than stock. Was it really pretty easy?

no not the bulb, let me try and explain it differently.

I am going to do the "headlight mod" which is to bake the lights and take out the orange pieces on my 2004 headlights. What I was asking was has anyone sprayed around the reflector part of the lamp?

Can I see your moded headlights? Pics?

You are a bit confused, yes many people have painted around the reflector area of the lamps, and doing a search for "headlight mod" will indeed bring about many articles of this.

I believe scoobymods.com has a very good write up for the 02-03 bug-eye models like my own, and I'm sure much of it would be applicable to the 04 models.

they basically look like STI projector lights- slightly different, but this will give you an idea:D

One of the original guys to start painting their lights was a guy on ClubWRX.net named "Koji". He made a nice DIY (DO It Yourself) guide here: http://www.clubwrx.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7600&highlight=koji+headlight

People were doing that mod LONG before Koji posted that in July of 2002.

I personally did mine in sept 2001.

Hey Chucko, that doesn't smell like mud!

I did this mod... my headlights look just like the one in the pic. I have a 2004.... it looks awsome and very different from stock.... definitly worth it.
