View Full Version : closing the deck
RedP1 12-01-2003, 02:36 PM Check this site out. www.cgperformance.com
The guy closes the deck on USDM NA EJ25 adds forged parts in internal and can build crazy high HP turbo charged EJ25's.
QuickDrive 12-01-2003, 03:13 PM Very Interesting,
I never knew the difference until now...
Luckily I own an already closed deck EJ22T and have a spare one just in case :)
Matt Monson 12-01-2003, 06:17 PM Cobb's been doing that for years. That's what a stage III Cobb bottom end is...Same thing you find in Conebasher.:D
subiekid 12-01-2003, 07:02 PM there are a few guys that do this.

even longer with the Honda people ;)
morgie 01-13-2004, 05:44 PM you could also use semi-closed deck setup :)

How much psi can you run on a ej25 with a closed deck, new pistons, and rods?
morgie 01-14-2004, 09:23 PM probably a lot if you get good tuning and fueling and a big turbo :)
Speed cost money, how fast you want to go ? :)

I was just doing research.:D

On a Cobb block they claim 2 bar (30psi) boost making more than 600hp...:D
kaos200 01-22-2004, 11:18 PM they say 30, because its resleeved. Closed deck and resleeving are two different things. Do both, and man, talk about bullet proof:)

thats what i like to hear.
ciper 02-11-2004, 11:54 PM If sleeving and closed deck makes it bulletproof, then many of us already have bulletproof blocks.
The EJ22T is fully closed deck and has sleeves cast into the block (not machined and slid in). Its stronger than these aftermarket 2.5l built blocks.
Drift_King: Where you being funny or serious?
legacy92ej22t 02-12-2004, 10:11 AM I hope he was trying to be funny, because if not...well, you know.

by sleeving I mean aftermarket thick cast Iron sleeves. Not the thinner oem units.
ciper 02-12-2004, 09:53 PM kaos200: Its common for people to speak worse than that online, why wouldnt I?
"aftermarket thick cast Iron sleeves. Not the thinner oem units."
That are still machined/pressed into the block after the fact. Other engines have them press fit. The EJ22T are cast directly into the block. You should check the thickness of the EJ22T sleaves, I swear it was 6mm. I was this close to sleaving my block when I found they would be weaker in some ways to the stock units (like the ability to twist and warp).

if they really are that thick and its not the iron AND ally part thats 6mm, then thats great:)
totoherbs 02-14-2004, 01:52 AM The ej22s have the thickest liners... but a good solid liner like axis or ispeed uses will hold better. I dont think anyone has ever ovaled a ej22, I think you would blow a head gasket off before that, so its a silly point to bicker over....
The ej257 has one of the thinest liners of any subaru motor... ;)
Matt Monson 02-14-2004, 10:05 PM personally I am not worried about the sleeve slipping. I plan on overboring my EJ22 having it resleeved. As long as it is done by someone who knows how to build a race engine there shouldn't be any issue in my mind...

Me neither. Learn somethin new everyday.
neversatisfied 03-22-2004, 07:59 PM Great info. The EJ22T gets more appealing the more I read about it. :D

yes, but they don't want me talking about them until it is built. And since I lost my job last week, the timeframe just got moved. I was going to ship them the block this month, but now it looks like July or later for me.:furious:
