I grabbed the latest issue of Super Street toaday . Its been snowing the last two days and I had to get out of the house . I took the wifes SUV out and headed down to the local book store. I am glancing over and see the head line that says " This Homemade STI Is Grilled To Perfection" . Well I had to buy it . I wish I hadnt but the add had done its job on my interest to see this HOME MADE STI was.
First off let me make this loud and clear, this car is beatiful besides a Ricey tach that the owner has put in a area that looks horrible in my opinion , but to each his own . The owner of this car must have unlimited resources of cash to do what he has done . Reading the article it was abit confusing on what he has done besides a lot of bolt on parts and a mix match 02 parts ( the car is a 03 ) 98 legacy head gasket ( To help engien compression to 9.5:1 . . There are many parts that I have not listed and the car is estimated to have around 310 HP , Im not sure if thats crank or at the wheels. A sick looking MRC wide body kit and super huge brake kit and custom made 20x9 Boyd Coddington Rims to fill the gigantic WRC wheel wells. This car is wicked .
Your probably saying ok get to the point . Its comming , This car is amazing and proves that the WRX platform is one of the best cars for the money today . Heres my point, this car is no STI , nor do I think the owner is pawning it off that way, not one badge on this car mentions STI . Why is it for some reason that magazines seem to think they will sell a issue just on STI name . Dont get me wrong I love my STI and its one hell of a car but calling this car a STI is an travisty to the owner of this car .
After getting past this article I must have seen at least ten WRX and two STI' I actually made the mag by being at a show . I know there a thread on STI badging and how do STI people feel on this . This is not what this is about . There is nothing wrong with the WRX . There just happens to be another car called a STI now . Put the two cars side by side the have the same general appearence but make no mistake the two stock cars are totally different . They both have the potential to be super fast ass cars that wont only run fast 1/4 mile times but even out hadle most cars twice the factory price tags . This is what the Super Streets and other mags should be printing .
Peace !

Right off the bat, its a HOME MADE STI, meaning the owner spent a lot of money to get his wrx as close to an STi as possible. If you didn't already know the STi has never seen North American soil and be buyable at a subaru dealership till now. There are many who brand their wrx's/imprezas STi's because thats just their mind set. Bashing upon people who do this is just wrong, so what if you have an STi? Let me put the difference in the prices for our cars into mods and I'll be whoopping you where ever you go. You must remember this when you compared two cars is stats and $$$$$. Retail on an STi is a lot more then the wrx the last time I checked also, not everyone can afford a 33,000 car off the bat.

Dude , did your read the whole thing .... I am in know way bashing the WRX VS STI .... The whole point to what I wrote is that the person that owns this car has put together one hell of a car. To call it and STI is an insult to the owner that he has put this car together. The magazine is using the STI name ... not the owner . I have followed these cars for a couple of years and have finnaly picked one up . I am aware that 2004 is the first year that this platform has been made available on these shores. Many WRX owners have done a great job in upgradding thgese cars into sick ass rides . The article should have been called "Look out STI owners this one sick ass WRX"

I think I've seen that car and I believe he's posted on here before, he posted it in the wheel forum. If it's the one I'm thinking I saw it at the Enkei location for the kick off to the Super Street Tour.

Well the only conclusion is that he has not installed his winter tires YET!!! Which is a very sensible decision but shows signs of procrastination!! :D

Somebody wasted a whole lot of time and effort and energy, IMO.
