I suspect many Subaru owners tend to be technical types, especially after reading this Time Magazine article...

"Subaru's customers are, the company admits, a little oddball. How else do you explain the fact that Subaru of America was the only car company to increase unit sales last year? Subaru buyers tend to be overeducated; they buy less car than they can afford and hang on to it forever. "They pay cash, and then you never see them again," says Tim Mahoney, Subaru of America's chief marketing officer. At least not for an average 7.3 years, when they return like migrating carbirds to buy another one. Recession or not."

Back when I hired out, they were running ads in the paper. Back then all you had to have was a heartbeat! I started as a brakeman, became a conductor and then put in for Engineer's school. I was a dispatcher for a while, then became a Mgr. of Operating Practices (rules man). I worked all over the system. Finally cluldn't take anymore and "pulled the pin". Now its playtime! The pre requs are: No weekends or holidays off, on call 24/7 with a 2 hour call, etc. I couldn't hold a regular job with days off for 14 years. Hard life / good money.....

I'm actually with a design office that's part of a pretty large company.

I started off reproducing and distributing plans to our customers, and showed an interest in the design aspect of it all. I busted my ass and showed interest, and now I'm learning relay logic, route/location/crossing etc. testing, how to build control panels for the offices that control interlockings etc. etc. etc., and maybe more importantly, how to get things done on time and under budget without pissing off too many people in the field  I work with my father, who started off as a signalman for Conrail in the 70s and has been a signal designer for the past 20 years. My grandfather worked on the PRR as a signalman, and my great grandfather worked for the railroad, but I'm not entirely sure what he did. Needless to say, I can't get away from the RR if I tried to.

I'm also going to school for ME.

As an operations manager, how many Subdivisions did you have under you?

I'm actually redrawing old aspect charts as we speak :) I've got a ton of stuff shoved into one house here, so tomorrow should be a fun day of moving things around.

Currently a waitress...have been for about 6 years now. Don't know why I love it so much. One of its perks is, short-flexible hours. But in five years, the car will be mine. I'm a single mom of two boys. Hopefully I can have a good enough job when my boys get older to get them a nice Subie :)
