BrianH 12-18-2003, 08:32 PM does that knob actually screw on? or does it have a bolt from the side that you have to screw in like all the cheapies seen on ebay?
TB RACING 12-18-2003, 08:40 PM it screws on, the best fitment I've seen in a shift knob ever
it actually includes a screw in piece to attach it to other types of shifters if you wanted to as well
BrianH 12-18-2003, 08:46 PM Nice, got closeups of the knob? DO you sell them seperately?
TB RACING 12-18-2003, 09:13 PM most of the closeups get blurry, but heres the best I got

I will sell the knobs seperately for 35 Shipped
and the shifters seperately for 55 shipped

mattjk 12-21-2003, 04:48 AM how does the boot fit without that notch?
JDM 3SGTE 12-21-2003, 04:59 AM what kind of short shifter is it?

not quite following you

it currently does not carry a name, much like the replica sti bars we carry don't carry a name, they are merely a part manufactured by a non-brand name company for us
BrianH 12-21-2003, 08:50 PM I think he's talking about the lip that most shift knobs carry which allow the shifter boot to fasten snugly to the shifter knob.

TB RACING 12-21-2003, 11:12 PM I've had several shift knobs on my car without a lip and fitment as been fine. The shorter shifter brings the shifter down farther so that the boot fits up well. Perhaps if you have an old nasty shift boot thats all worn out it may be a problem. In which case you would need to be inventive and flip the upper part of the boot inside itself and use a rubber band or something of that nature.

LordBass 12-23-2003, 10:27 AM Wow.. This is *cheap*.. Any opinion on the quality/feel/install of this shifter vs. the usual suspects?

TB RACING 12-23-2003, 10:38 AM Not cheap, low priced
EXCELLENT Quality piece I must say, its nicer than most shift knobs and shifters I've seen. They are only priced this low to get them out on the market. The price will be much higher after the word gets out on them a bit more as to the quality of the pieces.
TB RACING 12-26-2003, 04:29 PM still plenty available
Subie2 12-26-2003, 06:55 PM ok.. website is slooooow.. not even getting the images on here anymore. I wanted to browse.. hehe.. got money to spend not sure what to do with it.

TB RACING 12-26-2003, 07:02 PM yeah, something just bogged it down, its normallly not like that
should be better now I believe
PS Works 12-27-2003, 06:14 PM is this short shifter as good as the one you can get from the factory? the factory one has the linkages and stuff, am i right? whats the difference between just getting the shifter piece itself and getting it with the linkages and all the pieces?

the sti short throw shifter from the factory replaces the whole shifter assembly down the the transmission
its more expensive and more difficult to install, however gives a much different smoother feeling shift I've been told
different shifter designs feel different, and short throw shifters are for a feel effect so you must really find one thats right for you
this shifter will give you a much quicker, notchier feel
it makes it more difficult to miss shifts, as there is less play and a drastically shorter motion of your hand
if you add some shifter bushings (which we have for $20) you will get an even more precise video game like shifter feel

Here's a link with pictures from scoobymods.com for installing a short throw shifter and bushings.

They're install instructions for Kartboy shifter and bushings, but installation is the same regardless.

do you have the weight yet?
edit: also, how much lower is your shifter than the stock piece?

well I packed one up to ship today and it weighed 1lb with the box,
granted my scale doesn't go any lower (its a 250lb shipping scale)
the shifter isn't too much shorter than the stock shifter, maybe a cm or so, but the leverage is changed enough at the bottom to make it effective
with a shorter shift knob, it is a very good compromise shifter for those of you who like close to the stock height but want a firmer, quicker shift

Wait a minute. You said in your first post and I quote. "Get your STi Titanium Replica Shift Knob and a Short Throw Shifter shipped to you in time for Xmas!" Is it or not? I am new at this but 1 cm less than factory to me dose not constitute a short throw shifter?
Is it or isn't it?

Well I'd like to start by saying theres no way I can get you one in time for christmas now :) unless you want it by christmas 04'
2nd, the shifter height yes is about 1cm shorter, however the location of the pivot point is what makes the largest difference in shifter travel.
It's a lever, think of it like a seesaw in a playground.
Height of the shifter itself can easily be changed with a smaller shift knob, like the one that comes with it.
If you don't like the height, you can also shorten the shifter much easier than you can make it taller.
TB RACING 01-02-2004, 07:08 PM Still plenty to go around.
If it helps any, I have the replica knob in question. I purchased it from TB Racing, and have been very happy with it. It is heavier than the stock knob, and sits lower than the stock knob on the (stock) shifter.
Most importantly, the knob screws on securely, and has stayed secure! (I had a knob on my integra that rattled loose before turn 1 at Willow, and that was not a good feeling)
Two thumbs up for replica knob and TB Racing.
