As you fellow WRX owners know the system in the WRX is Poor, at best. MY03 rex currently has stock stereo components all around. My question is wether or not the stock stereo will provide enough amperage to make a large noticable difference if I upgrade my front speakers with a component setup. What I am looking at right now is an Infinity Refrence setup. (its the 5000 series, includes a tweeter)
I am just sick of the distortion found at all levels depending on what Im listening to. I don't need anything to BUMP just yet, just want to have decent highs, lows, and mids.
THANKS

I am not an infinity fan. They seem to blow too easily, especially if not given clean power. My personal favorite stock upgrades are OzAudio speakers for sound quality, if you aren't using an amp, and Dynaudio (which I have and am going to use eventually) if you are going to add an amp. Macintosh and Image Dynamics also make excellent speakers, but I think the Macs would be hard to find. I believe the OzAudio speakers will fit, and if you have the factory sub would sound pretty good. It all depends on your plan and budget. On my suburban, which surprisingly has difficult doors to fit, I originally had BA pro's and switched to OzAudio....what an improvement. Stock head unit, no amp.

You would be suprised how much of a difference replacing the hu would make, even with the stock speakers still in place. I was very suprised. I don't blame you for wanting to replace the speakers, but you should consider replacing the hu first. The stock speakers are not that bad if you have enough power behind them. The stock hu does not have enough power to push any speakers, especially aftermarket speakers. Replace the hu with a stereo that has about 20 watts RMS and you will see what I am talking about. The stock speakers will still distort, but at a higher volume, and sound much better at the low to medium volumes. Trust me, that is what I did, so I'm talking from experience. I now have cerwin vega's component speakers that I need to install in all 4 doors, haven't done it yet, waiting on warmer weather, but it sounds good enough now to last me until warmer weather. Good Luck.

yeah, after a bit of consideration and reconsideration i decided I am going to get an Alpine deck. One of the 60x4 watt ones, they have gotten good reviews around most places. Anyway, thanks for all the advice guys, but keep sugestions comming for a good solution to the WRX sound problems.
