View Full Version : Cobb AccessECU Stage 2
03WRX83 12-23-2003, 05:21 PM I have the cobb ecu stage 2 for a while now. Lately i haven't been meeting targeted boost. Ive only been getting about 15-15.5psi. Today the weather warmed up to about 55-60 and my boost dropped to 13.5 psi:eek: . Different runs i did and i then saw about 14-14.5 psi. So im like ***.
I had from my cobb stage 1 the restrictor hose that they supplied in a box in my basement. So i imediatly whipped it out. Put it on, and my boost now shoots to 15.8psi. If i pin the gas at around 2.6k rpm its shoots up to about 16.4psi(apx)[a little bit past .11mpa]. Then levels out around 15.8 psi quickly.
Ive noticed the boost is there much quicker now and the car is overall more powerful and responsive.
Seems to be working quite well.:disco:
Mods are... Bosal dp, txs uppipe, mbrp catback.. all 2.5", and k&n filter, accessecu stage2 of course.
Anyone try this with their set up?
clamdip 12-23-2003, 05:38 PM no, no use of the restricter hose, however, i do have the have the overall quickness in response and power throughout the whole power band. i actually vision myself taking on BMW Z8's and stuff, but that may be out of the question unless i get my 16G working, then might have a chance. :D well, glad you're happy with your set-up. also, i've noticed that my boost fluctuates with different weather conditions, but the car still feels the same. not much change in boost.
03WRX83 12-23-2003, 06:08 PM yeah, mine fluctuated hardcore.. 13.5-14.5 then to 15... Thats to much. Cobb says its Mechanical, but i beleive its the ecu.
lawn boy 12-24-2003, 12:03 PM will cobb ever introduce a stage higher than 2?
03WRX83 12-24-2003, 12:09 PM yes.. look at their site.
esteve 12-25-2003, 02:26 AM I was tempted to try this as well. When I had the stage 1 I was hitting 16 psi easy with that restrictor hose. After I got the stage 2 and took it out, I'm barely able to hit 15 psi.
Just to be sure, I'd contact Cobb about this although they'll probably give you a conservative reply about long-term effects.
03WRX83 12-26-2003, 03:12 PM i try to contact them, no response yet. Im running it with the hose its the car is much more fun to drive. Almost 0 lag when shifting now.
CirrusWRX 12-29-2003, 02:24 AM One item that I have spoken to a couple of "smarter than me" people is the fact that just because the boost hits a particular number, making it go 1 or even .5 psi HIGHER may not necessarily yield more performance. I know I'm probably preaching to the choir here, but for the people who "only" see 14.5 or 15psi, do you know for a fact that your boost gauge is 100% accurate? Do you know if you are, in fact, making more HP at 15.5 or 16psi, than at 14.5 or 15psi?
Just curious. Sometimes, when that needle swings up really fast and at a higher number, the car certainly seems faster - I know, because it happened to me!
clamdip 12-29-2003, 05:21 AM that's true, more boost doesn't necessarily mean more power. it all comes down to how the car is tuned. also, my boost fluctuates with changing weather conditions. this is good as a EBC or aftermarket boost controller can't do this. so basically the boost that is seen is coming from the sensor inputs to the ECU and the ECU calibrates a/f ratios based on this.
03WRX83 12-29-2003, 03:26 PM i can tell you at 14.5 psi vs 15.5 psi is different, different enough for my passengers to feel.
