Does anyone know the weight of the 04 WRX STi's aluminium hood? And how does the Do-luck CF hood compare?

Well ... I saved 8 lbs for carbon vs stock trunk ... In previous research, I believe that you can hope to save a max of 10 lbs with the carbon hood ... as the stock STi hood is damn light.

... and the Do-Luck comes to what .... $1800 .... first get the JDM bumper beam (-9 lbs) and Lightweight Battery (-20 lbs) ... etc ... etc ...

Yeah I did the carbon trunk .. but the carbon hood is actually pretty far down my current list of weight saving measures ...

It's hard to rationalize in terms of weight. Get a nice Ti Exhaust first.

I believe it was World One who said that the stock STi hood is the same weight as their cf hood and air scoop. So I guess the only reason to get a cf hood for the STi is for the bling factor.

Don't take this the wrong way, but what is up with the ... ?

If your car gets in an accident it might be cheaper to get the CF replacement. Other than that I don't think it's worth what you pay for the weight savings you get. And if you paint it you cancel out a good chunk of that savings.

Seats are a good way to save weight if you don't mind giving up the airbags..

If I wanted to save weight I think the first things would be jack, spare tire, lightweight battery, yank the air conditioning, and a new exhaust. After that it's going to cost a lot more to drop a few pounds.

the STi hood is the same as the WRX hood, both aluminum, and both very lightweight and comparable to a CF hood, as mentioned it is probably cheaper to get a CF replacement after an accident, but it really isnt neccessary unless yo want a stronger hood because of taht damn aluminum, cause taht is my reason i would ever get a CF hood on my car, not as dent happy :D

Well I was quoted $300 for an oem hood from Subaru. So I don't think you will save much money if you had to replace the hood on an insurance claim.

Just weighed a stock 02-03 wrx hood with scoop, insulation, trim, washer nozzles and it came out to 22.5 lbs

It seems as though many of the more inexpensive CF hoods weigh more than the stock aluminum one. And that is without paint on it.
