View Full Version : How to wire driving lights and keep DRLs?

I have seen a number of threads on how to wire driving lights to come on with the highbeams. In each one, however, there is a requirement to disable the DRLs. Any recomondations on how to wire and keep DRL functionality?

if you wire the power to the lights to the actual high beam wire there wouldnt be a problem would there?

just tap the low-beam switched ground. +12V when the highs are on, nothing to do with the DRL system. piece of cake :D

I thought I read somewhere that this method actually powers the low beams slightly when the driving lights are on. Incorrect?

Edited because I think I misread your post (pretty amazing since it was all of one sentence  )

I think that the question you're asking is unrelated to the DRL's, but correct me if I've got it wrong. you're talking about how powering driving lights off the low-beam ground will necessitate flowing current through the low-beam filaments? If that's what you're getting at, I asked a similar question a short while ago (here (http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=470404) ) and while I didn't get a real definate answer, I suspect that in fact, no harm is done to the low-beam and they aren't going to turn on. I think ;)

I have to admit, I still don't really see the connection to the DRLs .. I don't know how they really work on our cars, though. Typically when the DRLs are on, all it is is the low-beams operating at reduced power.. in which case it won't make a difference.. now you've made me curious about the DRLs, though, so if I get a chance I'm going to go measure what is actually going on at the headlight wires when they are on. Right now I've got my driving lights hooked up just as I said, tapped to the low-beam ground wire, with DRL's intact.

I made a post a while back. Look it up it explains everything in detail, down to the wire colors. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DO ANYTHING TO THE DRL's!!!!
Unfortunetly there are a lot of amatures out there posting about wiring stuff.
MY post gives several options on how the fogs can be turned on.

Here it is, and the switch will light up whener the fogs are on too. Just in case any idiots told you otherwise.

Mine are wired so that whenever the parking lights come on the fogs can be turned on with the switch. They will stay on through high beam if you follow my instructions. If the switch is on for the fogs and you arm the alarm they will flash too. I will eventually fix this. I don't like them to flash. The grren switch light comes on and stays on when they are on. It's simple. Folow the instructions carefully. I try to spleel in out in laymens terms.
