Hi all,

I'm wanting to add some fog lights to my '99 OBS, but don't want to pay the $260+ that the dealership (stealership?) wants for the entire kit. I was looking at 1stSubaruParts.com and saw a fog light kit there (click HERE (http://www.1stsubaruparts.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=33_48&products_id=269) for the link) for '97 -01 Imprezas. Anyone have any information on it? Does it include all the bracketry, wiring, switches, etc? How hard is the install?

Or, is there a better option out there that's still moderately priced?

Thanks,
Matt

Yes, that will work. I have one. It comes with everything you need. You get a nice stock Subaru switch with it that lights up when on. Install is straight forward, just have to locate the relay under the dash and plug into existing harness upfront. No splicing or soldering required.
Now the bad part...it does not really do much. It throws a little light immediately in front of the car. It would have to be really foggy to have much effect. I will try some different bulbs, but not overwattage ones as the harness is not up to much.
It is a cosmetic upgrade mostly. If you buy some body colour paint to do the trim pieces, it looks pretty good. IMHO.
It is worthwhile to get just for the brackets and switch. Then you could experiment with other aftermarket lights.

Maybe I'll just see what I can do with some aftermarket lights.

Thanks for the reply,
Matt

I used some inexpensive pilot lights ($55). The switch that came with it had sticky tape on the back, so no drilling was necessary. I mounted it on the dash next to the steering column. As far as mounting the wiring, I routed the it through the driver side fender and along the front lower core support rail next to the stock wiring harness. You can't see the wires at all. For the lights, I used a dremel to hole out a hole in the stock fog light covers, drilled a couple pilot holes in the metal portion of the bumper ( not visible - it is behind the plastic portion) and screwed in the lights. It works great. I now need to find a replacement lens for one that lost a fight with a rock. Good luck, hope this helps. It was pretty easy, maybe an hour, two at the most.

Any chance you have a pic of what the lights look like installed? One of these days I need to dig underneath the bumper and see what type of support is there to attach a bracket to.

Thanks for the help!

I bought a set of factory foglights with trim and the foglight switch for $20 from someone on this board. Since my car (98 OBS) didn't come with fogs originally, I also had to order a $12 wiring harness (connects fogs to headlight harnesses) from www.subaruparts.com. Once that arrives I should be good to go - total cost $32!
