im looking to purchase this car possibly, it seems a pretty good deal but what kind of car is the Brighton? it seems pretty bone stock and lacking in alot of features, but does anyone have any personal testimonies for/against this car? i would really like a L or RS, but finding one for my price range (under $6000) is seeming pretty hard.
GuyLR 12-31-2003, 01:42 PM Check out this thread about halfway down the page from a couple of days ago.

linsavy 01-01-2004, 11:10 AM This car has a 1.8l with about 110hp. It is not a speed demon. If you are ok with that then fine. Otherwise hold out for at least an L with the 2.2l.
Mike Wevrick 01-02-2004, 10:26 AM Brighton is what Subaru called its most basic stripped models for a while. The 1.8 is pretty gutless; I would be scared to drive one on the highway. www.cars101.com has a good overview of all the different models and features
HoratioCaine 01-02-2004, 04:45 PM The 1.8 is fine. The Brighton doesn't weigh as much as the L or RS do.
A friend of mine has one that he's updated a bit. Still got the 1.8L but it's got the RS front/hood, a v5 wing I think, prodrive suspension, harness bar, and a pair of nice seats (if your ass isn't wide anyway).
Head over to the i-club and find TeamSUBARU. He may be looking to sell it and I think the price he had in mind was under $6000 (and it's painted a bright yellow, porsche or bmw color I think)
NotAnRS 01-06-2004, 07:17 AM Having driven both, hold out for a 2.2. No comparison. You can get a 2.2L without all the power junk and the weight is still very low.
well, i drove the brighton and an L, but i ended up getting a honda del sol si, the other car i was searching for. they were just alot more common around here and less costly.
NotAnRS 01-08-2004, 07:19 AM A del slow?
You do realize that's a chick car?
dugrant153 01-09-2004, 02:53 AM hehehe... a friend of mine, who is a girl, owns one :)
Del Sol's are cool... but not practical in terms of space.
meh, I'll be the one searching for a Brighton :P
dave_t 01-13-2004, 03:14 PM i wasnt around these cars when there was a new imprezza brighton but my dad recently took one in on trade, so i did get to drive it around for a few days.. it was pretty basic.. manual windows and locks(that didnt do the best job locking) a tape player, and an automatic transmission, the previous owner had put in and aftermarket indoor/outdoor thermometer and a vac. pressure gauge.. over all it was a good little car.. if i were you i'd get it if it was a good deal.. the one my dad has is $8,995 cdn it's a '99 i think
dugrant153 01-14-2004, 12:27 AM 9000 dollars for a 99?! That's pretty good :)
Hey, I could afford that :)
How is it aynways? Gas wise it's okay? Performance?
linsavy 01-15-2004, 12:03 PM $9k for a 99 Brighton is way way too much. I have seen RSs for $13cdn.
dave_t 01-15-2004, 03:19 PM i think it's a '99 i'm not 100% sure though...performace wise it was alright... gas wise it was pretty good it went for a day almost empty then $10 lasted till we stoped driving it (2 days later) and it's probably still on that 10 unless it's sold but i think they still have it

You really think it's too much?
I think 9k is about bluebook price (or whatever those books are called). Plus, I don't think a lot of people will sell their RS's for 13k CDN... or will they?
Dave_T, the Brighton is light, isn't it?
linsavy 01-16-2004, 01:24 PM Here is a MY00 for $16k with only 73km. You should be able to get a 98 or 99 with higher miles for a lot less don't you think. This is the asking price too, it will sell for at least $1k less.

This is also retail, a private seller would be 20% less. People always ask for big $$ but the price the cars sells for is a different story.
Maybe your local market is whacky, but here 9k would get you a nice L loaded with low mileage.

That's good news. Well, we're both Canadian, so I'm assuming we're talking the same dollars :)
But yeah... maybe I'm just not sure if people will drop their prices. heh... well, we'll see. Hopefully, I'll be able to find a deal like that. My budget is/was around 8-10k (hoping cheaper, of course), and saving an extra 1000 for repairs and 2000 for insurance (oi...)
