A few short words...

skiis
snowboards
random sticks of lumber
It probably makes a great armrest. Any Canadians care to comment on this one?
A nice place to put custom audio equipment that needs access for the occasional tweak.

After seeing the pass-through in a pic I searched untill I found out why it wasn't in the backseat of the car at the dealership and that it is not easy fur us pur Amuricans to get. What gives? Is it perhaps something to be on the 2005 STI list of standard options <--whoops looks like a rumor in the making.

What other uses are there for a passthrough?

I had a pass through on my WRX sedan and aside from skiis I don't really much use for it. I don't think a snowboard or much of any lumber would fit through it. ;)

I like the fold down seats on my stang, my sub box formfits the opening. It looks cool and it sure seems to hit harder when it's open.

It would be nice for cargo...but subs are more important! I have a cherokee to haul stuff in =)

Nice one tlatoani, I didn't think of the sub port. One nice long excursion driver would look and sound tits behind that little flap.

A small animal could use the opening or a child to retrieve something from the trunk.

Bring back the armrest for 2005 Subaru!

You guys do realize that the standard WRX still has the pass through, right? Honestly, I still wish that Subaru offered the STi in the wagon body. :)

In my opinion, the US spec STI is kinda inferior to the Canadian spec. They got the passthrough, and the heated seats/mirrors

Cheaper to replace the cluster with an MPH unit than to try and retrofit that stuff, for sure.

I'd bet they took it out to insure body rigidity.

If you look behind the seat,,you will see 2 large braces(bars).Rigidity is not the issue. There is enough room between the bars fr a pass through. To me the seats felt lighter then the WRX .
But i never used the pass through on my WRX so im not missing anything,,EXCEPT i would love heated seats!

we also get a radio, floormats, and the subaru alarm :)
you guys get HID's on the other hand :(

The canadian spec also has those two rigidity bars. the opening is right between them, changing the seat is a simple swap, only 6 bolts

Believe it or not, with a little dexterity, I can fit 2 ~153cm Snowboards AND a pair of slightly longer skis in the pass through of my '02 RS.

Funny, I actually had a conversation with a dealer about this. He told me that new federal regulations now require (or will require within the next year or so) any fold-down trunk access to have a lock mechanism. The rationale is safety, as a number of deaths have been caused in accidents by objects in the trunk firing through the easily-foldable back seats. I would assume then that the armrest pass-through would fall under the same requirements.

Seems like a resonable explanation. But, which is harder, adding a lock to an already existing hole or redesigning the backseat to delete the hole?

A friend of a friend was driving a pickup with a spare tire in the bed and had his skiis sitting partially on the tire. Upon impact with a car in front of him, the skiis lauched through the rear window glass and tagged him in the base of the skull. He was in a coma for several months. He survived, but my buddy says his personality changed alot. I met him after the accident.

My assumption there is that it has to do with the logistics of accessing the lock. since it's just a pass through, not an entirely hinged seat, you'd have to put the lock mechanism somewhere that it'd be accessible. If you put it on the back side, you'd have to crawl into the trunk to access the release. The only other logical place is to put it is above the rear seat on the back deck. then you'd have to have a release mechanism snaked down behind the rear seat to the top of the pass through. When weighing those options against simply making a one-piece rear seat, the cost and simplicity of design are both stacked against the pass-through.

Its the STi ... they even threw out the carpets to save weight. You think they'll put all that weight saving back into a passthrough seat?

i've been thinking about removing the rear deck so there is some air flow in my trunk. My amp gets way hot back there with no moving air and the subs hit so much harder with a passthrough.

anyone tried removing the rear deck on the STi?

You would be better off forceing air in and pull air out thourgh the speaker looking pass throughs (think DC powered computer case fans.)

North America gets a variety of Subaru's. Some go to Canada and some to the States.

For instance: In Canada the 2004 Forester XT is only available in pp1 and pp2 models. In the US the 2004 Forester XT is only available in Base XT and pp2 (auto) versions.

Personally I don't like Sunrooms, so I would rather have the Base XT. But I couldn't get it up here.

You have the Base STi. We have the Premium STi.

You get the 2005 Outback XT base model, and Limited. We only get the Limited. I don't fit in the Sunroofed 2005 models so I'm getting a Legacy Wagon.

In Canada we don't even get a 2005 Outback Sedan. I really wanted a 2005 Outback Sedan.:(
