View Full Version : Subaru parts costs a lot more? dugrant153 01-11-2004, 04:13 AM Is it true that Subaru parts tend to cost a lot more than other imports? aawen 01-11-2004, 05:46 AM depends on where you located I think :) aawen 01-11-2004, 05:49 AM arhh... sorry, i misunderstanding. not only subaru parts, it's compare to other imports... oops my bad  orndog 01-11-2004, 12:00 PM Subaru has lower volume than Honda, etc, so yes, parts usually cost more. mbiker97 01-12-2004, 12:47 PM $ for Honda parts < $ for Subaru parts <<< $ for Audi/BMW parts. A big difference is that many Subaru owners will pay for quality. Price seems to be a huge factor for Honda as compared to quality. dugrant153 01-12-2004, 02:02 PM I kinda guessed Honda parts would be the cheapest since there's a million Hondas out on the road every day ;) I guess I was trying to gauge whether the Impreza parts cost more than your average car (....which is probably a Honda anyway...). I guess I'm wondering if the price is really that much more? Or is it just a touch over Honda prtas? pityr 01-14-2004, 12:43 AM They seem to be on par or alittle cheaper than the toyota parts. Trying to service my MR2 was expensive. They are also a hell of a lot cheaper than parts for my old RX7 :) spelk3 01-14-2004, 02:26 PM Subaru parts are cheap compaired to Porsche parts! cjbruce 01-14-2004, 04:32 PM Originally posted by mbiker97 $ for Honda parts < $ for Subaru parts <<< $ for Audi/BMW parts. Honda owners pay a huge premium for quality in their initial purchase. Contrast the perceived quality of a Honda Civic versus a Pontiac Sunfire, Kia Rio, or even a Mitsubishi Lancer. The Civic is rated #1 year after year by independent analysts. Subaru is a distant third behind Honda and Toyota. That being said, I still consider the Subaru to be the best overall value to me, they just aren't at the pinnacle of reliability like Honda and Toyota. Opie 01-14-2004, 08:29 PM I wouldn't say they were expensive....but I would say it pays to shop around. When I compared the parts needed to replace the timing belt, radiator hoses, ect between Subaru parts and all my local chain auto parts stores....the OEM parts were cheaper. mbiker97 01-14-2004, 10:59 PM Originally posted by cjbruce ??? I'm talking performance aftermarket. dugrant153 01-15-2004, 02:08 AM I guess what I'm really wondering is that if I own a Subaru and I find out that it needs some work done, it won't cost me an arm and a leg in parts, right? That's usually taken up by labor costs... :p cjbruce 01-15-2004, 12:49 PM Ahh, for the cost of repair parts I would look around to see what kind of Subaru presence you have around where you live. Growing up in Alaska we were fortunate to have a dealer in town, so everybody drove Subarus. As a result they were much cheaper to repair than the bigger-name imports. In addition, most shops were quite experienced with Subarus, so they wasted less time figuring out what the problems were. linsavy 01-15-2004, 01:01 PM Depends on where you buy them. I just got a service done at the dealer and he charged by $98Cdn for 4 spark plugs. Just the parts not labour. I could buy NGK coppers for about $15, platinum for $40, iridium for $80. I got screwed there. I should have supplied my own. BANG4BOOST 01-19-2004, 03:59 AM subaru is epensive, but not that expensive.. and definitely worth it. best bang for buck right now id say. mbiker97 01-19-2004, 11:17 AM I just got rearended the other day. Iwas really suprised how cheap some of the body panels are. The decklid only costs $140, and a new rear bumper fascia is also only $140. The seems really cheap to me compared to many other cars I've heard of. Heck a Mustang GT's front fascia costs $600 while the WRX is only $140. dugrant153 01-21-2004, 09:54 PM ah, so repairs and maintenance shouldn't cost me an arm and a leg, eh? |
