What is the internal volume?

enclosure is for a 10" woofer, the volume is about .9 cu ft, and it is sealed.

Eazy E 01-20-2004, 11:27 PM Will a 10w6v2 fit? Right now I have a 12w6v2 in my trunk, but it just takes up too much space. If it fits, do you know how the 10w6v2 will sound compared to the 12w6v2?
Thanks
JAnderson 01-20-2004, 11:29 PM What type of wood is used, what thickness is it. How is it to attache to the car so it does not slide a round.
jim
evolutionauto 01-20-2004, 11:36 PM a 10w6v2 is what is in the enclosure pictured above. sounds great to me, but i havent tried any other woofers yet either. the car pictured above had a 12" woofer and enclosure in it previous to the JL 10", and the 10 is way better. granted we werent comparing 10w6 to 12w6, but a properly designed box, vs. a prefab would be a no brainer in my book.
the enclosure is mainly 1/2" MDF, that is glued and nailed, with the baffle being 3/4" thick, and the trim panels 1/4" mdf. there is internal bracing between the back wall and baffle, and numerous pieces are CNC milled for exactness. the pictures above have the enclosure screwed to the floor of the car from the inside, though many have bought my previous enclosures and used heavy duty velcro to hold them in, with no problems.

evolutionauto 01-25-2004, 08:11 PM due to a problem with the CNC shop, the enclosures will be delayed a few days until the parts are ready. expect probably a 3 day delay before i ship everyones enclosures. sorry for the inconvenience.

SuperHawk 01-26-2004, 12:15 AM Just thought that I would give this thread a bump so that I can find it!
I will probably be getting one of these soon:banana:
Super!
evolutionauto 01-26-2004, 11:39 PM more production setbacks today. here in omaha we just recieved about a foot of snow, so basically the town has come to a halt for a few days. the CNC shop more or less closed down till wednesday, and i more than likely wont see the rest of the parts till friday, which puts me a week behind on the enclosures. once again, sorry for the inconvenience, i will get them out as soon as i can to all that have paid so far.
good to hear superhawk, let me know when you are ready.
kevin
www.evo-auto.com
evolutionauto 01-27-2004, 09:58 PM well the snow still is here, but with all the snow, no one is coming in for their appointments. so i went ahead today and made enough parts in the shop to send out the enclosures for everyone that has paid so far. so, everyone on the list, except mike, got their enclosures sent to them today.
i also included the jack relocating bolt. basically allows the jack to be mounted to the spare tire and be secure. also allows it to be removed at any time you need it. more or less, you sandwich the bolt/washers/nut through one of the rim stud holes. you slide the jack over that bolt, and then secure it with the wingnut. also, to make it easier, you should open the jack up abit for it to fit inside the tire.
let me know when everyone recieves their enclosure, and if you have any questions about the jack stuff.

I got the jack bolted to the wheel and my JL W6V2 is going in this afternooon {along with a hood lock and starter disable}.
A big bump for a great product.

jlp7t 02-02-2004, 03:31 AM I got mine and installed it this weekend. I'm very pleased, it fits perfectly and looks really good. I was also very surprised that just one 10" hits as hard as it does in that small of a box. Definitely have to dynamat the trunk now.

imminence 02-02-2004, 10:05 PM Got mine today. Looks awesome. That's some quality craftsmanship. My only qualm is that the jack relocating bolt and whatever else needed to relocate the jack wasn't included as indicated. Did you just forget to put the stuff in the box Kevin?
Please let me know.

tommy2hotty 02-03-2004, 11:50 AM wait does that mean you make the enclosures for both sides of the sedan now
dman918 02-03-2004, 04:36 PM I bought the EvolutionAuto custom enclosure for my WRX about two weeks ago.
The Story:
I previously had a standard qlogic box for my single 12” MTX 8000. I decided that I wanted something that was cleaner and took less space. I saw the post in the original group buy classifieds for the EvolutionAuto enclosure that went on the passenger side. Intrigued by its design, I emailed Kevin at supersubee@cox.net. Kevin was extremely helpful in answering all my questions, and even recommended a sub to go along with it. Upon that, I went ahead and ordered this new version (on the driver's side), along with a JL 10W6V2 from another individual.
Shipping:
The enclosure was sent promptly. He shipped it out as soon as he had an enclosure made, and I received the package itself within four days of shipment. The enclosure was nicely packed, with a solid box around it, and plenty of paper stuffing to keep it from getting banged up. The screws and jack were all packaged in little baggies, and were stuffed inside the box.
The Enclosure Itself:
Through the pics, you can see that this is much more than a couple pieces of wood slapped together to form the box. There are certainly a few cuts that make this an advanced design. Kevin said many cuts were CNC milled. Overall, you can tell that there was quite a bit of thought put into the design of the box. Just as Kevin states, this is mostly ½” MDF, which is glued and nailed cleanly. I am sure that some people wouldn’t mind ¾” MDF, but it doesn’t bother me. There is .9 ft of cubic air space. The carpeting is well applied, though I did notice an edge that could look a little better.
http://www.mustangmods.com/data/263/pic9.jpg
The color is VERY similar to the carpeting in the back, so it is a very good match in making it seem like it should be there (about as much as a sub like that can look). I was also happy that it was pretty light.
http://www.mustangmods.com/data/263/pic1.jpg
http://www.mustangmods.com/data/263/pic3.jpg
http://www.mustangmods.com/data/263/pic4.jpg
dman918 02-03-2004, 04:39 PM The Extras:
The enclosure did have a couple extra things that I would like to point out. First, it has clean terminal plate to connect your wires from your amp up. Second, you do get a ton of polyfil with the enclosure. I personally took some out because it looked like there was simply too much for my sub. Third, it came with the jack relocating bolt. I did not use it as I have not mounted the sub down yet. It is nice to see that the jack was considered for those who may want it relocated by the tire. Forth, it came with the screws to put the sub in. Last, it cam with the wires to hook the sub up to the terminals. I was not impressed with these wires. This is one thing that should be considered to be changed. They were thin, and did not have any +/- marking on it to indicate if the text end was positive or negative. I would have done a thicker guage wire and indicate which is the positive and negative. Not a big deal, but I don’t like dealing with the polyfil and whatnot.
http://www.mustangmods.com/data/263/pic2.jpg
The Enclosure in the Car:
As you can see, the fit is extremely good. The edges line up well, and the box blends in nicely. The cuts are perfect, so that I have no problems with the truck lid hinges or my rear strut bar. My sub hits very hard for being in such a small enclosure.
Here are some pics of the enclosure in the car:
http://www.mustangmods.com/data/263/pic8.jpg
http://www.mustangmods.com/data/263/pic11.jpg
dman918 02-03-2004, 04:41 PM Things I Would Ask For:
As stated in extras, I would request that a thicker wire be used. It would be a minimal cost difference, but I would have been very happy to see it. I would also request a method to mounting the box to the car. I would like either some heavy duty Velcro or some kind of bracket so I could keep the box from moving. Ideally, there would be a mount of some sort that would be blended in with the box (carpeted, etc.) Though the box does not move across the trunk, it is enough to be annoying.
http://www.mustangmods.com/data/263/pic5.jpg
http://www.mustangmods.com/data/263/pic6.jpg
I would also recommend that the carpeting be applied a little further as it does still show a little.
http://www.mustangmods.com/data/263/pic7.jpg
Overall impressions:
Overall, the construction of this enclosure is really well done. It provides a good amount of air space for the sub for most subwoofers in an sealed enclosure, and looks really good. There is a great amount of time invested in developing and making the enclosure, so he is selling this at a very reasonable price. Those who are looking for a good quality box at a good price should not pass this up.
I would like to see Kevin at EvolutionAuto make an amp rack option either on the sub or as a separate piece now, as my amp looks relatively unpolished. :)
Hummer 02-03-2004, 07:26 PM Bump for a good vendor. My car stereo shop was very impressed {I was too!}

onyxhunter 02-03-2004, 08:54 PM how much do the enclosures weigh...
r you going to do a group buy on a driver and passenger set, or do you plan on building a nice dual for the sedan trunk
evolutionauto 02-03-2004, 10:17 PM thanks for the write up dman, lets see if i can address some of the issues you have asked about.
on the polyfil, 1 lb of polyfil is recomended per cu ft of enclosure. i have supplied 12 oz's of polyfil, which is actually a little less than generally recommended. i encourage everyone to do listening tests with their enclosures, and add or remove polyfil to their liking.
the sub wire is 16ga wire. with the 1 foot run, that should be sufficient to carry enough wire for at least a 400 watt amp. i guess being in the car audio industry for so long has just conditioned me to use the writing on the wiring as the positive side. actually, it really wont make much difference, and most the time i test both polarities on customers cars just to make sure it sounds the best.
i have always supplied the screws to mount my enclosures with, i just like the idea of it being mounted very securely. i honestly dont find a difference of having an extra 30lbs in the side of my trunk. but i know alot of people dont like that for when they race, so many have used industrial grade velcro that can be found at many hardware stores. i was trying to work on a better mounting method, but i really havent found one yet, that is simple and easy to work.
i can apply more carpeting to the edges, but when the box is actually mounted and pushed totally against the inside of the car, you wont see that little bit of wood. as far as the trimming goes on the seam, i try to cut them as close as i can, but i guess i missed that one :)
as for an amp rack, i used to offer an enclosure with an amp rack, but i sold so few of them, i discontinued them.
onyx- i still build the right side enclosures, the prices are in the original post for them. however there are no plans for a GB for both, or for a dual setup of any kind.
imminence- i shipped 11 enclosures at once, i had 11 bolt sets, and when all was done i had none left. are you sure it wasnt stuck in some of the packaging, or wound up in the box stuck in the polyfil??? i cant see it falling out at point during shipping, though stranger things have happened. if you still cant find it, i can either tell you the parts is takes to buy them in town, or i can send another out to you, let me know.
kevin
www.evo-auto.com
dman918 02-03-2004, 10:38 PM I am running more than 400 watts rms, so I guess that is why I like thicker gauge wire. I figured as well that the text was positive, but I have also ran into one or two situations where it was not.
In my review, I was trying to be fairly critical. This is certainly one of the best enclosures I have ever had (possibly the best), but I think it is only fair to give both pros and cons, as minor as they were. ;)
Oh, and I forgot to add that I give this enclosure five bananas out of five.

zacek 02-12-2004, 04:13 PM wow! impresive but I agree with the some of the guys here.
If there is a woofer then there has to be an AMP driving it. We must have a place to install it and look as nice (or OEM look) as the box u designed for the woofer.
- For those that already own this box, where are you guys currently mounting the AMP? And I assume most of you ppl have 2 amps 1 to drive the BOX and the second one to drive the 4 speakers correct? We need a rack to mount 2 common size AMPS. It would be nice if this box could be mounted on the rear seat.
- Is there carpet on the bottom of the box? How is the velcro going to bet glued to the stock carpet?
- What woofer r u guys using for this BOX?
- Sealed boxes sound the bestr but require huge amounts of power correct?
- On the STi since there is not trunk pass-thru does the bass come up nice?
Glamdring 02-12-2004, 10:33 PM Do you have any of these wrx sedan enclosures left??
evolutionauto 02-12-2004, 10:55 PM i have found the best place to put an amp in subarus is under one of the front seats. there is plenty of mounting space there, and really helps out in the stealth department. the bottom of the box does not have carpet on it, so velcro will stick to the box itself. sealed boxes to me just have a good all around sound. i prefer the sound of a ported enclosure, but it takes more room and more effort to get the best sound from them.
i still have the STi/sedan enclosures for the drivers side, the old version passenger side enclosures can be had for $170 shipped, though it takes longer to get because i have to build them once they are ordered.

we have now hit 10 for the GB, and it seems people are coming in late, so i will keep it open until the end of the month, then i will close it.
as for woofers, seems like alot of people have been using the JL 10W6V2 with great success. as for an amp, anything with a good clean 300-400 watts will work fine.

how many channels you lookin for first? then i can give you some suggestions.
zacek 02-16-2004, 12:48 AM well, lets see. Currentl I have the stock stereo with the premium speakers, I guess it sounds pretty decent.
- The simplest way I guess it would be to get an amp for the sub enclosure only.
However when I uprgrade the HU it will have pre-amp outs to an amp:
- Do I get a 5 channel amp (is there such a thing)?!? On 6 channel amps can I bridge 2 of the channels (for sub) only?
- Or I get 1 amp for the sub and a 4 channel amp for the speakers
Question is, where do I install them?
Oh yeah, how do I get the BASS to go to the sub with the stock setup? Is this were the crossover comes into play? What's a good one?
Damm, too many questions, any links to a good Audio 101 that explains all this stuff? I am also very confused with the omh stuff.
