View Full Version : Gruppe-S V2 4-1 Manifolds with Cast Collectors - Group Buy!

Gruppe-S
01-29-2004, 04:23 PM
******** CLOSED *********

Hey guys,

We are setting up a group buy for the Gruppe-S 4-1 Manifolds.

*The Gruppe-S manifold is a 4 to 1 manifold designed to provide extensive midrange and top-end power gains. Our manifold features T304 Stainless Steel piping, mandrel bends, and CNC precision cut flanges. The 4-1 collector is cast to ensure the smoothest possible low rates. Strong gains in both HP and torque can be expected with the addition of the manifold, especially with high horsepower applications. Includes all necessary gaskets.

*2 years limited warranty.

*Will fit the 04+ STI 2.5

*This manifold makes around 6HP and 10 Torque on a basic bolt-on car. We have seen it make over 25whp on a car with larger turbo (such as PE1820).

Here ya go Gruppe-s :D (their great)

Mods were:

Stock block
PE 1820 turbo, 18.5 psi
PE 650 injectors
Utec
MRT turbo back 3" catless
GT spec gen I header with gt spec up pipe(2 bolt style, same design but now has 3 bolt flange)

The lower power band mods were all the same, but with stock manifolds and Perrin up pipe. Exterior conditions were the same, same dyno, etc. For some reason the dyno would not smooth out the curve like it usually does so the one band has a bunch of spikes in it.

Any fitment issues? I remember one set of headers that you had to modify the frame??

those were the version I headers, what I have. Very minimal work was required, but the latest ones shouldn't have that issue.

I asked you about Gruppe-N Engine and tranny mounts on iclub, can I make a package out of them with this? Hows $500 shipped sound for all three? Also can you weld a EGT bung on before shipment, if we make a deal. I can make a paypal deposit if you want. I will stick with the $500 no matter how many people buy in to this group buy, so you may end up making $5 more off me for the three item. I know huge money:banana: .

I have this header on my 04 STi with a TXS cast uppie.

I had both header and uppie HPC coated and made 22 whp and 27 ftlb's of torque.

The turbo is stock and I had a TBE from B&B on the car prior to the header/uppie install.

Its a great set up at a great price!!!!!!!!!!

We're starting on the list now.. everyone interested please PM our NASIOC account and we'll get the listed posted on the top post so everyone can eatch how it's going :)

We will be offering Jet Hot coated manifolds as an option for those wanting it :)

Pricing is not totally set on the coating at this point as it will depend on how many we send in at once to get it done. But expect at the very most $150 extra for a coated manifold.

WickedRydaX - $500 sounds fair.. no problem doing that. We can't weld on the bung for you though :(

Puckaveli - The manifolds fit the GC8 chassis EJ20's :)

I called my order in last night, he (didn't get his name) give it to me for "the best I can do" deal of $510. I have yet to see it show up on my card, so if you can modify it that would be great. I'm not sure how you guys have you order system worked out, but my real name is Michael Schupp if you need it. I was also told that the mounts were out of stock, so I said he could just wait to ship it all out at one time. I guess that makes me at least one person in this group buy for the list.
ThankS for the great deal.

I was told it would be about 2 weeks for the mounts to come in, I am not going to install for about 3 weeks as is. If for some reason the mounts aren't going to be in for a month or so then I would like the header sooner.
ThankS for the great deal.

is the jet hot coating just on the outside of the header or will it be on the inside as well?

singsing
02-16-2004, 10:36 AM
imho if it is not coated internally, recipe for disaster if only coated outisde. because heat is retained in the METAL.... this will lead to metal fatigue and cracking...

mine is cracked now... awaiting replacement!!

mista618
02-16-2004, 10:59 AM
so do you have an answer gruppe-s?

Gruppe-S
02-17-2004, 03:31 AM
mista618 - The headers are coated on the outside only if the Jet-Hot option is selected. I'm not sure where else the heat would be retained besides in the metal??

i don't know. its just that i've read up about this coating issue on nasioc and most people or tuners say that it should definitely be coated inside and out.

WickedRydaX
02-17-2004, 12:06 PM
My guess on this is that the coating on the outside causes the non coated metal to take more of the heat, which cause the inside to be more bratal.
MCL

I used the Jet Hot 2000 finish. It is applied inside and out and is good to 2400F. It is a thicker, gritty finish and it does an excellent job of retaining heat.

I have pictures and info about Jet Hot on my web site. Item 12 under Perfomance/Engine.

yeah, what WickedRydaX said

Gruppe-S
02-18-2004, 05:57 AM
The first batch of coated headers (outside only) is on their way back to us already :)

wrxxer - Yes they do :)

WickedRydaX - Question is wouldn't the metal still be what's retaining heat even if the inside is coated? I understand the coating itself can also retain heat, but the metal itself has much more mass and will still be retaining the vast majority of the heat unless the coating is so thick that the diameter of the piping is significantly effected. I don't doubt that every little bit helps, but whether or not the additional expense is worth the gain needs to be proven to be cost effective. We'll be doing some comparisons ourselves between the coated and uncoated versions :)

Yea I know that the metal is what retains the heat, but I think what people are seeing is that the coating help the metal "cool" faster, and if the metal has a huge difference in temp from outside to inside it COULD, but could here, cause warping. My guess is that the coating doesn't work that well to cause the difference in temps that would be needed. This is just again my GUESS I have never used the coating nor have I seen it.

look at some posts by dynamicspeed regarding their headers. they explain why it need to be coated inside as well. anyway, can we get it coated inside? i'm willing to pay a little more for piece of mind.

ttenneb
02-18-2004, 03:52 PM
Are you positive that the coating is done by JET-HOT. I'm assuming this is the JET-HOT 2000 coating and not the Sterling. From what I understand from contacting JET HOT myself, they would not do outside coatings only. Their reason is that if they only did the outside coating the uncoated metal inside would be subjected to more thermal stress and would weaken the metal faster.

mista618 - Sure if you'd like to get then internally and externally coated we can do it no problem. We just won't have them in stock to ship out right away when the group buy closes. We'll send them out to Jet Hot for the dual coating right away and get it shipped to you as soon as it comes back :)

industrial - We'll post some better closeup's on Monday.. but here's one:

http://www.gruppe-s.com/Used/nmani2.jpg

300blueballs - No problem at all.. will ship right after group buy closes end of this month :)

googe - Most of the 4-1 headres are based off the same orginal design (HKS style). Our headers retain a 2-bolt manifold-to-uppipe flange meaning you are free to run any uppipe you please and not forced to run a solid uppipe. The other big plus is the cast collector (shown above)... much smoother than a welded collectors such as this:

Some questions:

Is there a warranty on the headers?
Is the warranty still valid if they're coated?
Do you have a firm price on the cost of the coating yet?
Can you make a combo deal w/ an uppipe?

Thanks.

Gruppe-S
02-23-2004, 05:05 AM
WickedRydaX - Yes new gaskets are included. We'd appreciate any feedback we can get :)

Bankie - The headers have a 2 year warranty including the coated ones. The externally coated units will be an additional $125. Adding a Helix uppipe is an additional $100 with a manifold :)

I am in. Max, I will be calling you in 5 minutes. Can't go wrong with that price you're offering.

Definately need mine shipped ASAP since I am in NY. Shiv is doing customtunes on March 20th. Can't wait to get that done. I'm sure the headers will make a huge difference in power after the tune!

4 more people and we get headers for 325 shipped!!!!!

Will this manifold change the exhaust note? Louder... quieter? And it will bolt up to a perrin uppipe right?

Gruppe-S
02-26-2004, 05:01 AM
JAnderson - Yes, the bar is to keep the manifold protected during shipping

wistling rexie - The exhaust note is not significantly changed... a tad bit louder. It will bolt up to any uppipe that replaces the stock one (including the Perrin)
