The sunroof in my 2001 RS has a stall point half way between open and closed. When I push the button to open the sunroof, it pauses half way open, and I have to release the button then push it again to get it to open up the rest of the way.
I bought the car used, so I'm wondering if that's normal, or if I've potentially got faulty wiring.

It's normal. First push of the button should pop the sunroof up. Second push will then open the sunroof the rest of the way (as long as you hold the button). Same when you close it. First push will close it about half way, and second push will close it the rest of the way. Relax, your car is fine :D Oh, mine is a 00 RS, by the way.

many many thanks. i sorta figured it was meant to be that way, though i can't imagine why the designer thought it was a good idea to design it that way. nice site, btw.
and it's not complete yet, but check back in a few days:

Yep it's normal. It tricked me at first as well. :D
The window lock button had me thinking my passenger window was broken, but it was just the window lock button doing it's job.

yeah, that window lock thing got me too! i actually talked to the dealer about it and told him to fix it before i bought it.
I still don't get it. why on earth would someone intentionally design a switch that prevents the driver from messing with the controls?

My sunroof switch/motor/whatever broke the day I picked up the car. :( The switch/motor/whatever was replaced on two separate times and it doesn't stop in the middle anymore.
Don't care since I really don't use the sunroof that much.

I like the way sunroof works. If I just want to tilt it up, I just need to hold the button and not take my eyes off the road. Then just hold it again to open it all the way. The closing pause at the halfway mark is for safety, I'm sure, so you don't accidentally close it on fingers or whatever. Anyways, glad to be of service, and welcome to the board!
