Probably wishful thinking. Dont suppose it can hurt though. If nothing else, isnt weight removal. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/wink.gif

View Full Version : more acceleration Midwayman 05-20-2001, 09:51 PM Probably wishful thinking. Dont suppose it can hurt though. JayE 05-20-2001, 10:48 PM didn't you post this in another forum already? srosqvist 05-21-2001, 01:15 AM Own a MY98RS. Yesterday I removed the carpet and a piece of plastic that is located on the floor under the gas pedal and by doing this, I noticed the pedal is allowed to travel considerably further to the floor. I'm just wondering if this allowes for more acceleration or if it makes no difference? I did a test run and it seemed to make a difference but I can't really tell until my gas tank is closer to empty because that is where I really like to push the car and could tell any difference. I did notice however the car seemed to be a little quicker on acceleration but it could just be whishfull thinking.... Has anyone else noticed this piece of plastic and if so what is your opinion on it? P.S. If you don't know what piece of plastic I'm talking about, it's the one on the floor that stops the accelerator pedal when you floor it. I assume any of the MyYear imprezas have them....... Rich L 05-21-2001, 09:04 AM By pushing down the pedal further, you will go even faster! Maybe you can cut a hole in the floor and push it really far to go even faster!http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/wink.gif Albert 05-21-2001, 11:19 AM Actually, you increase the possibility of jamming your throttle plate open past horizontal. Also, once the throttle plate is past horizontal, it is in essense like closing the throttle, (slowing the car). Fido 05-21-2001, 03:03 PM The throttle stuck open in my mom's car once while I was driving it through a school zone...No, I'm not kidding http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif I mashed the pedal and it unstuck..Lucky me...I was toodling along, and I noticed that when I took my foot off the pedal I wasn't going any slower...in fact I was accelerating...It was a weird feeling, and I knew it had a sticking problem sometimes, so I kicked it and it unstuck somewhere http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/smile.gif SlimChance 05-21-2001, 03:06 PM This sounds familiar to me... They are able to reduce their 1/4 mile times by simply removing the carpet from under the gas pedal since the carpet stopped the pedal from going down it's full length. Did you read about this from Grand National owners or in a mag about Grand National owners doing this? I've done it on the impreza and notice no difference after reading an article on this. munkis 05-21-2001, 07:02 PM hahaha Rich, Im sure that plastic is there for a reason. Like so you dont push the pedal that far, your throttle cable is only so long, it is designed to travel a certain distance only, one reason that stop is there, is so it doesnt snap, or like some said jam the throttle plate open. Do this, take off your air box and look in the throttle body have some one press the gas to the floor, see how far the throttle plate opens, if it goes full horizontal with the plastic installed then thats full throttle...full is full, get it? http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/wink.gif Then remove the plastic and see how far it goes, if it goes full horizontal and then some, you just defeated the purpose of removing the stopper. I think you should put it back IMO, before you stretch your throttle cable, it frayes inside and then gets stuck wide open cause one of the burs wedges itself between the cable and its outer shell. When it comes down to it, the engineers put it there for a reason... I know this post sounds like I have an attitude but thats not the case, im just stating my opinon http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/smilies/wink.gif Jay McDade Auto Tech--Lincoln/Mercury/Jaguar www.hometown.aol.com/impreza25rs2000 (http://www.hometown.aol.com/impreza25rs2000) Subie Blues 06-21-2001, 02:02 PM The pedal stop IS there for a reason. It takes the load on the pedal when you do floor it or stomp on it. The feds have load requirements on the pedals and this little piece helps them meet the reqmt. Look at full size GM's and it does not have pedal stops so the arm is MUCH larger. Most rice burners meet the regulation like this. If you remove it then the cable is your limiting component. takes the load until the floor comes in. Next it causes higher wear on teh cable and carpet. Potential catch on carpet and the stuck throttle condition. Serious business, just ask Teleflex who Ford tried to pawn off a multimillion dollar lawsuit off on and the company I used to work at.
