I think I know the answer to this. They have to have FIA event before they can host a WRC event here. When is that event suppose to be? They were suppose to have one in 2000 but I remember they canceled it for some reason and were going to try and have one in 2001. So does anyone know when it is?

I want WRC here soooo bad... but I don't think we deserve it. Not us specifically, but the hundreds of thousands of people who consider turning left 1000 times a motorsport- they make it so we can't ever have real racing...

The two most true forms of racing - Touring (BTCC) and Rallying (WRC). Now if they'd only let the AWD cars back into Touring racing...

Well not everyone likes turning left. That's just TV. You see how many people were at the US GrandPrix. Just think of all of the SCCA members and people who race and watch, if they had a NASCAR race and a WRC race on TV. I think they would rather watch the WRC. Heck they would be more likely to drive to go see a WRC race than a NASCAR race.

If the coverage was good, I think the WRC on tv would be a great show, the cars are so active, jumping, sliding etc. But it would depend on camera(s) positioning. The viewer would have to be able to follow a car along the course as opposed to what the real spectator usually sees, which is one car sliding thru a turn then x minutes waiting for the next. With the right coverage rallies could win over lots of motorsports fans.

it's not gonna happen... there's not enough sponsorship or support... we rallyists havent heard a peep about the "colorado event" in 2001 - nothing since it was cancelled...

i fear it will never happen.

I think you will find next years TV coverage will be AWESOME.

Dave Richards has taken over control of the WRC official coverage, he always makes things work well.

In some ways i'm glad you guys dont get a WRC round, as it means Subie Gal has to visit our little island http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/wink.gif

But seriously, i do hope you get a round one day soon, its the greatest sport in the world, with the greatest drivers, teams and spectators. I would love to come over and watch a WRC round in your country, i dont think it will happen for a long time yet, i do think it will within the next 10 years though, the USA is just too important a market to avoid.

I talked to a BBC guy at this years San Remo WRC rally. He said it was a go for this summer, and if all works out ok, then WRC for us the year following.

Anybody read the thing in SCC about Mitsubishi giving money to anybody who rallys and wins with a Mitsu? Can't remember the specific detail...but you know we are hearing rumors of a US EVO, and the WRX is not a myth...rally may finally be taking off in our left turning country

That kind of award isn't too unusual. It is called contingency money.

I don't know if Subaru has a ProRally contingency, but I do know they pay out for good finishes in ProSolo and National Tour Solo events.

They do have a ProRally contingency. Ask Pat Richard how well it pays. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/wink.gif

8-- BTCC is one of the TRUE forms of racing? Sorry, FWD doesn't float my boat. Besides, if you were to narrow motorsport down to two surely some form of open wheel should be represented?

Anyway, the Pacific Northwest is trying to pick up the Asia Pacific Rally that Colorado lost. The Canadians are also trying to get a Pacific Rim event added to the FIA calendar.

I'm sure anyone who is on the rally lists could provide better details.

Don't cite spectator interest at the USGP as an example, since television is the arbiter for a sport's success. As Max Mosley said during a breakfast meeting I attended, "Fans in the stands are like extras in a movie. They look good for the TV cameras."

Know that the USGP ratings were abysmal, almost nonexistent. It's a stone cold bummer, but there it is.

I think that at this point, WRC here would be altruism personified, the optimism of promoters like David Pook (in open wheel cars) notwithstanding.

I'd sure as heck love to see a WRC event on these shores, and never thought that I would see a USGP, so there is hope....

Maybe... but on the canadian circuit... the rally of charlevoix was an approved FIA event. The FIA observers were there to make sure everything was to spec and it seemed it did ...

On my own view, I don't think it will happen either... This rally had Federal and Provincial support till 2003. They're really pushing hard (Canadian Rally Sport Canada and Rally Sport Quebec).

At this event, there was 3 europeen teams competing (Cousoul, Duval and Eric Coma was sponsored by Cousoul).

The rally itself was over 3 days with about 400km of rally stage and 1100 kms of transit.

Here's the link for this rally 2000 results.

I would love to see WRC here but the reality is rally needs major sponsorship and that only comes from TV contracts.
