View Full Version : help with non-stock foglight switch wiring
Hi there, I'm a electrical newbie and would like to have some help from you experts......I believe this is a simple question for many of you.......
Ok I picked up a pair of fog light for my 98 OBS (L style bumper), and I think I have figure out everything except the wiring of the switch, which is just a simple headlight/fog switch, I dont really want to spend 30$US for just a stock switch, so I decide to try it out.
My switch has the following connectors at back:
+B (battery?)
L (to lights?)
ground
I want to soldier wires from grey fog light socket to the switch (my switch has no dash light), anybody know which go where? pic below I stole from a thread:D , THanks alot!

ultrasonic 02-18-2004, 01:12 PM Check out the wiring diagrams at
http://www.rallylights.com/useful_info/auxiliary_lamp_wiring.htm
If you don't have the tools and knowledge to figure it out with the info available there, maybe you should get someone to help you.
Also, you should really consider getting the stock fog light switch if you plan on using the existing wiring. Check eBay if you don't want to pay retail for a new one. Or hit your local salvage yard and get either a fog switch or a rear defroster switch (can easily be modded to work as a fog switch- email me if you want to know how).
Your other best option is to buy a ready made wiring harness for aux lights, like the ones on this page...

Either way you are going to have to spend a few more dollars and do a bit more research. You'll learn something about your car, get your lights working, and have a good time doing it. It's worth it.
Good luck.
PARANOID56 02-18-2004, 02:35 PM yea, i would also recomend not using the stock wiring. just get a nice relay setup. it will make your life much easier, and only one wire will come though the firewall. and you will have brighter fog lights after also, as now the fogs will be recieving more voltage due to the new relay setup.

bleuquila 02-18-2004, 10:44 PM Hey, that's my picture! neat. :alien:
I'm trying to figure out what you want to do - use the stock wiring harness, but plug it into your switch, more or less? You'll have to forgive me, I don't know anything about the OBS's - do they come with fogs? are you just replacing the lights? Since there's no stock switch, I'm guessing there are no lights, so are you sure there's stock wiring laid out in there?
That picture is from an '03 wrx, so I highly doubt the wires are going to match up anyway. Really, honestly, you ought to just do what the nice people say, and run your own wires.
this diagram (http://irregardless.us/Projects/Lights/Foglight_Wiring.JPG) may or may not help you - it shows how I had my lights wired to a non-stock switch, also with three terminals. And you can see everything that's going on with the wires that plug into the stock foglight switch.

sorry hehe:D
yes my OBS didnt come with fog lights, I bought a used pair from a Canadian RS (who converted to V5 bumper). I'm going to use all the stock wiring harness, except the wiring between my fog lights to the WHITE connector at the back of horn, AND the wiring between my non-stock switch to grey connector, which the same as that picture. (THATS THE PART I NEED HELP WITH)
I have tried disassemble the dash panel and taken a look, it too has that grey connector and brown conector (for cc), I believe their wiring colors are the same as in the picture above.......one thing different is WRX built-in a very nice relay box beside fuse panel, OBS didnt, just connectors flying all over the places. However PINK connector is the relay socket for fog lights.
One thread I found a guy (with 2000 RS) wanted to hard wiring the switch, not sure what exactly he meant tho:

A replier with 03 RS provided this pic:

I probably can go find that damn stock switch, but because the nearest Subaru wrecker is so damn far away just playing lazy at the moment. THanks!
PARANOID56 02-19-2004, 07:00 PM hey, thats my picture :D
So, if i get this right you are using all the stock wiring, and some stock fog lights?
if so, you should just tie into the line "4" and "6"
(i think)
