I did mine in my EDM sti lights about a week ago. Definite improvement. Did you get yours from Daniel Stern? Mine are Toshiba-branded instead of GE.

Yes I got them from Stern, he seems to work through Candlepower. Toshiba was on the bulb.

50% more lighting sounds enticing but worth the $40 ?
Can either supply a picture of the light output from these HIRs ? I find no increased lighting when I click on my highs along with HIDs anymore (probably from the amount of white light in front now)

Pictures really can't capture light output. To do that you need some expensive equipment. Light "whiteness" is not a measure of output but colour and for the most part meaningless. There is no proof that whiter light is better than any other "shade" of white. One may be more pleasing to the eye or "cooler" looking but that's subjective. This is why I never do photo's of lamps.

the bulbs are $40 each and yes, the improvement is dramatic.

the best color for actually SEEING is not a blueish white like you see on tunAr bulbs. Some yellow balance is better for your night vision.

Correct, the blue end of the spectrum is very bad for night time. Blue is the major componant in glare too this is why it hurts your eyes when you see a bonehead with fake HID bulbs. Some good info on that here:

The HIR bulbs I installed aren't even slightly blue, and no blue tint to the glass.

When I said colour I meant whiter is not better.

We're on the same page. I was just stating specifically what you hinted at.

Because of the way HIR works only a single purpose bulb is possible (I think) only the 9005 (hi beam) type is avaliable. Not sure what type you guys use? I thought H4's.

This thread's quite old, but it has the how-to so up it comes. I put the 9011 bulbs in my STi the other night and WOW what a difference! I was pretty pleased with the HID low beams, but the highs were quite wimpy. These HIR bulbs are the real deal and it took me literally 10 seconds per bulb with a dremel to modify the top tab.

I got mine from finemotoring.com (http://finemotoring.com) for about $55 shipped (pair). ( I have no relation to them. Just a random customer.)
