98 had the DOHCs and was the last of the phase ones

2000 was the first of the 4 doors.... and ya at some point I think they lost the rear lsd but I dont remember when.

I'm sure North Ursalia or Peaty have all these changes on their websites. :D

The only changes between 2000 and 2001 were cd player standard instead of cassette and the fake CF trim. Everything else was the same as the 00's, including the color choices. The 98 had the DOHC, different front bumper, rubber shift boot, and the gold 5 spoke wheels. All 98's were coupes. The 99's had silver 5 spokes, the "new" interior (ie: a leather shift boot :D), the first large fog lamps, and all were coupes. The 00 and 01 had the silver 6 spoke wheels and 00 introduced the sedan body style. 8755 coupes were made through all four years of production, with 7352 sedans made over their two year production run. I probably missed a few things, but the truth is out there as they say :). Check out a few websites for more info- cars101.com, edmunds.com, and my site and Peaty's site as Ed mentioned :).

Leather was a port installed option. I almost got leather on my old RS but ended up getting the cloth.

I got a Ridge Blue , 2 door , 5 speed, 2000 2.5 RS. Has 67 thousand on it.

211 miles of drivng to show up and have someone test driving it.
After missing out on 3 different '01 models (same types - DAMN u Mr LA who bought the ATL one and whom ever in Texas who got the one for 10,900 at 42,000 miles! ... urghghg - bygones) I
didnt really hesitate to purchase even though I have a bit of worry on why it has brand new Toyos with the steering wheel cocked to the right with no real noticable missalignment while driving. If something is wrong I will be sure my mechanic and body man finds it this coming week casue it has a 3000 mile / 30 day unlimited guarentee (bought from Subaru dealer). Any problems and I'll let my wife loose with her steel toes.

Do they make RS floor mats? They had WRX mats in. Not a fan.
Im not into drag racing so turbos arent for me. Cruising at 110 is me though so I will be looking to mods going top end. Looking at the 6 speed tranny along with one of the axis motors. Will be talking to them soon about custom job for my driving style. As of now I think I will be driving about 5-10 mph SLOWER than in my Accord. Gear ratios I suppose.

I know you already got your car, but the differences are CF trim and Black Diamond Pearl was not an optional color in 2000 but it was in 2001. Also, the CD player is standard in 2000, I have my window sticker to prove it, the upgraded stereo is just the factory subwoofer under the driver seat and better speakers.

i have my window sticker also and it says cassette stereo with 4 speaker is standard not the cd player

on the right side of the window sticker it says
cd player - 350.00
tweeter kit - 100.00
subwoofer/amp - 260.00

i bought this car on 12/28/99 and maybe it wasnt standard on them yet...it was assembled in japan in 9/99

Does anyone have the OEM sub?
And as far as the tweeters go, my car has some on the door , is this the tweeter upgrade?

The CD player may have been standard (ie: already installed and/or a port installed option) on the car you got JewPac42, but it did not become a factory standard until the 2001 RS :).

I have the oem sub underneath my drivers seat, and I have no idea how it works.

I have the OEM sub too. It's not bad. I'm not one to blast bass heavy music anyways, though.

Do you know how to work it? I can't find any buttons on mine, I guess I'm not looking right or something.

I think the only way to work it is to adjust the bass on the actual stereo. More bass, more subwoofer. Too bad though, cause my driver's side front speaker has a lot of vibration coming out of it when i turn it up. Not fun.

I will try that when I leave today and see if that works, from what I can see all the connectors are plugged into the sub correctly. Its that big white cluster that holds all the wires and it's plugged into the side of the sub.

Well I tried to find something on the sub woofer in the manual and nothing...odd (searching PDFs suck). Searched these forums and same.

The stock head unit has no direct sub woofer controls
and from what I've gather'd the sub uses internal secuitry. I would guess the sub has level controls on the unit itself. Stick your head under there and take a look.

If there is I would suggest turning down the bass on the head unit , turning up the treble and then turn up the sensitivity on the sub itself. This way your full range and tweeters wont be pushing bass and sound cleaner.

Hey CrazyMike13
anything going on in Bham? Im in Huntsville.

Ok so it was annoing me that I wasnt finding any info so I kept searching. Came across this link which shows the sub and its controls and I was right. Controls are on sub unit itself. Take a look

Actually Flip C, I'm trying to plan a get-together this weekend. Go into the South-East region and you'll see a thread about it. We might be able to get up to 6 subarus this time.

Thanks for the link, I think i stumbled on that page before. When I looked at my sub I could't see any buttons< i guess that is beacause they must be facing the center console. Also i couldn't move it because there was a sharp piece of flat metal holding the sub down from the bottom, I believe it is held by a bolt next to the seat railing. Becareful because it is very sharp down there.

Flip C

inurb ,
yeah looking at it, it dosent look to easy to adjust cause its right next to adapter hookup and you need a philips head (looking at that picture) to adjust it. Would assume it does face rail cause that would get cord out of harms way.
If it is such a PITA, suggest taking the time to set it in conjunction with the bass level on HU so that you can have some degree of control. IE set HU volume up pretty much as loud as you would ever want it. Adjust its bass level to a point BELOW where factory speakers have distortion from it.(you will want play room) Turn Sub up to match the listening level. This way you can turn up the bass if need at lower levels AND/OR down a bit if needed.

CrazyMike13 ,
Man , I'll be in Nashville, Tn this weekend!
Will check out the thread and see whats up. Not many Impreza's here either. I've freaked a few with my '00 RS. One of 2 here and other is a 98 or 99 one that I rarely see. Only a few WRX's though someone said they did see an STi. TBH our Subaru dealer sucks. Will be in touch.

CrazyMike13
02-27-2004, 01:57 PM
Flip C our dealer sucks too. I would never buy a car from them. You didn't mention you had an RS!!! What year, color and model. There are only 2-3 RS's in this city as well. It would be nice to see 3 in one location. Me and Crash have the exact same year, color and body and when we meet up, we get some serious looks! Come on down one day! It will be great to meet another local.

I have a 2000 Blue Ridge Pearl 2 door 5 speed.
I was looking for an '01 but damn if the things arent rare.
Nothing done externally yet. Previous owner replaced rear sway with a Whiteline 24 MM and upgraded the springs etc with the Eibach Pro Kit. Stock 6 star with low profile Toyos.
He had an Apexi N1 exhaust with the Greddy sport intake. Got his number might purchase, looking for used prices to see how much they worth and weather or not I want to buy. The intake isnt stock. Aluminum, not sure aobut ti, havent had time to pull it apart.
Will be doing a site to document it. First things is replacing the 5 speed with the Sti 6 speed! Unless I hear about something better.
Work calling ...

02-27-2004, 09:51 PM
Well, damn! You'll be the third, BRP, 2-door 2000 RS in the area. We really need to get these cars together. hehe. I actually have an Apexi N1 exhaust and I love it! You should look into getting that back on your car.

Anyways, that's it for now. Talk to ya later.
