I know it's possible to directly bolt in WRX front seats into the GC8 OBS, but what about about the backs? In short, would it be possible to get the back cushion and the bottom cushion from a 2002-2004 WRX wagon and install them into a GC8 OBS?

It has been done. There is a little fussing with some of the bolts in the seat back. IIRC 2 of six won't go in. There will be a little gap around the seat bottom near the door.
I am thinking about WRX seats too. Another option would be to get the seat covers from someone who put leather into their WRX wagon. You could then just swap covers and add a bit of stuffing. This could be the cheaper way to go at it. That has been done too.

The shape of the rear seats will probably be different since they're different between the GC/GM and GD rear seats. They might bolt in.
