Hi,
I have a 97 outback sport. And I am having a problem with the interior fan switch for the heater/ac. It only works on 4. And does not work on any other speed. When you switch it from off to 1 I can hear a click coming from the driver's side near the vent. I assume that the regulator for the fan speed is burnt out somehow, but I have no idea where it is located, what it looks like or where to get a replacement. Everything else works fine the fuses are not blown the AC works, rear defrost etc. Everything that is tied in with the fan works fine. I am just at a complete loss here.
Anyway would appreciate any help and will return the favor in many thank you's.

I suspect your blower motor resistor pack is dead.

It's basically several coils of resistive wire; you probably have a break in one of the coils.

It's bolted right onto the blower motor behind the glove box. It has a 4-pin connector on it. You should be able to see it pretty easily after removing the glove box.

To test it, just measure the pairwise resistance between all the terminals. If any of them show an open circuit, it's broken.

A new one is part number 72024AA000. List price is around $50.

I have a spare used one in good working order; if you'd like it PM me.
