Read something at subaru.com about the new STX car/truck hybrid that's coming out in 2003 or thereabouts. Was going to have a 2.5L Supercharged boxer engine. Didn't say anything about it being deisel, but it matches the timeline. Supposed to be about 230 HP, and looks kinda cool, too. Wonder if that's the engine?

Well, there is hope for the diesel engine. After all, BMW campaigned a diesel in a european touring car series. It kicked some serious ass!

Although converting a gasoline engine to a diesel is a no-no. There's a damn good reason why any diesel worth a damn has an iron block. You'd think that GM would have learned it's lesson about gas-diesel conversions..

There are German press reports that Subaru has contracted Porsche to develop a turbo diesel flat four to go on sale in 2 years.

I guess they'll be converting an existing engine but I don't know which one.

We'll probably never get it in the US, but diesels are popular in Europe. In Germany Subaru sells mainly to hunters and fishers, who like the value price AWD.

The european TDI cars are so much fun to drive. I had a blast driving in my uncle's TDI opel. They just pull and pull... so much torque. I hope to see the diesels out here. Not much of an enthusiast car, but man are they fun for daily commuting.
