View Full Version : S.P.E.C Stage 1 clutch special $359 delivered
Daddy's SCP 02-24-2004, 03:05 PM Daddy's is celebrating the arrival of "Gina Joanne Russo" born Thursday February 19th. To celebrate Daddy status again we're introducing SPEC Clutches as a new line at Daddy's. S.P.E.C offers the widest selection of clutches to meet your need. We like their Stage 1 kit over others because S.P.E.C manufactures their own clutch that is matched to their pressure plate rather than using the standard WRX OEM clutch like most Stage 1 kits. We have Stage 1's for the WRX instock and for a limited time we are offering them to NASIOC members for $359 DELIVERED(lower 48, excluding Alaska & Hawaii). We'll be posting additional Stage as they arrive.
S.P.E.C Stage 1 Kit's Inluces:
410lb holding capacity(WRX)
Performance Pressure Plate
Steel-backed woven organic disc w/all steel hub
Bearings
Alignment tools
The organic disc offers smooth engagement, quiet operation and light pedal feel. This is excellent for daily driving and occasional racing.
Update 04/06
We're going to keep our previous March delivered prices on all SPEC products. Check out the March prices. They are quite sick.
Stage 1, Stage 1 w/Lightweight Pressure Plate Option, Stage 3, GC8/Legacy Stage 1, WRX Lightweight Flywheel. PM if you have questions or need other applications. STi Stage 3's as well.
This is a Spec Stage 3 clutch disc. Most "stock" photos show a 4 puck, but it's actually a 6 puck which gives better streetable engagement. Nice !

The SPEC gang hanging out at Daddy's. Check out that lightweight flywheel. Can't wait for my clutch to go. I just need an excuse :D

scobaru 02-24-2004, 10:32 PM so this clutch can hold 410ftlbs of torque? and have a close to stock feel ? how much would the next stage be? is that price include shipping? I'm very intrested if all checks out I'm gonna get one :D

That's correct it is rated for 410 lbs of torque and has an OEM style pickup though not identical of course. SPEC has 7 Clutch Stages, we plan on stocking 3 of those and have quick availablity to the rest, but you'd be building a purpose built race car going beyond Stage 3. Here's the next two stages.
Stage 2:
Rated for 470lbs torque(WRX)
Performance pressure plate,
Segmented chatter-free Keval disc
Bearings,
Alignment tool
Intro - $399 delivered
Stage 3:
Rated for 530 lbs torque(WRX)
Performance pressure plate
3 piece 6 puck disc with carbon-based semi-metallic pad
Bearings,
Alignment tool
Intro - $409 delivered
SPEC describes this stage as the Ultimate Street/Strip clutch. Sharp but smooth engagement and light pedal(realatively speaking of course).
scobaru 02-25-2004, 12:05 AM oh man... when do you expect to get the stage 3 in? thats 409 shipped correct? I'm prob going ot get the stage 1 or 3 :D  :disco:
scobaru 02-25-2004, 01:07 AM how would we order?
Daddy's SCP 02-25-2004, 02:17 AM Originally posted by scobaru

Place the order over the website. Clutches are in the Drivetrain category. Don't worry about the regular price. The site does not charge your CC, it just gathers info(securely). Send a followup email with your order # stating you want the Nasioc special. You'll get your order # within minutes of placing an order. Yes, Stage 3's are $409.

Daddy's SCP 02-25-2004, 08:52 PM Just wanted to add a note that the above prices are for Stages 1 thru 3 for the WRX only. We'll be posting STi and CG8 prices shortly.

These are still Delivered intro prices. We'll run them through March. There are other stages available but once you get beyond 3, your basically out of the street range of clutches and into pure race applications.

Radio Flyer 03-04-2004, 11:19 AM And the price for a Legacy/RS? My clutch is rapidly going out on me...
The Stage 1 is close to stock feel, but higher clamping force, right? I still need it to be driveable.

For everyone else. This madness will end at the end of the month. Shop around folks, these are the best delivered prices on s.p.e.c clutches on the web or anywhere else :D

HI Ezmendriz,
In addition to an optional lighweight flywheel, SPEC offers a "Lightweight" option on most of their kits. The "Lightweight" option uses a lighter weight pressure plate assembly. So the kit we are advertising for $428 is like the standard Stage 1 but with a lightweigt pressure plate assembly. We were mis-shipped on our lightweight option otherwise I'd give you the real scale weight difference.

STi FSU 06-24-2004, 02:33 PM Mega bump....what are your current prices and stock on spec clutches, specifically the wrx stages 2 and 3?
Any feedback about these? Feel, chatter, slipablity....?
Thanks,
FSU
scobaru 06-25-2004, 03:52 AM I have a stage 1 spec clutch on my jdm EJ20G pushing around 250 260 hp at the fly the cluch I have is made for the WRX and its holding up very well I'm very happy with the clutch I got and the feel is pretty close to a stock hydro clutch.
This clutch is scobaru approved :D

I'll check stock but I believe I have Stage 1, Stage 1 with light weight, Stage 3, and SPEC lightwiegh alloy flywheel. Still honoring previous prices posted. I'll do the physical inventory check to let you know for sure.
R.
STi FSU 06-29-2004, 04:26 AM How's the feedback been on the stage 3 clutches. I hear they can be a bit chattery and on/off when breaking in, but usually smooth out pretty good, though they do remain pretty abrupt. I'll be using this in an STi with a wrx style MRT flywheel I have left over from my old car. I should be making 425-450 crank hp with equal torque pretty soon, and more on race gas.
Thanks,
FSU
milkcartonkid 06-29-2004, 02:11 PM ttt and a pm check!
milkcartonkid 06-29-2004, 05:53 PM bump...i needs a price sir. :)
Daddy's SCP 06-29-2004, 11:52 PM Hey sorry for the late reply guys, this thread was a bit aged and I wasn't looking out for it.
STi FSU - The Stage 3 is a bit grabby at first(to be expected) but settles in after about 500 miles and is very streetable. But I always like to ask the question, do you need a Stage 3? Bigger isn't always better with a clutch. Sometimes a little bit of slip is a good thing.
milkcartonkid - PM'd you.

Thank you, I am well aware of that and that's why I ask. I did some reading last night on a mustang forum and they recommend against the stage 3 unless you really need it, and suggest the stage 2 instaid. The issue I have with the stage 2 is that it's kevlar, and I have heard some pretty negative things about kevlar clutches in general, such as heat soak issues and wear issues with the clutchmasters stage 3. Otherwise, if the spec stage 2 can hold 470 ft/lb.......well, that's right on the ragged edge of what I think I will be making on C16 race gas eventually. I know Jinxproof99 has dragged successfully on a 5-speed with the clutchmasters stage 4, which is basicly the same design as the spec stage 3. So, it can be slipped a bit, it is just tricky.
Your thoughts?
FSU
Red Rocket 07-02-2004, 07:31 AM Bump, I'd be interested in knowing the answer to the above question.
Thanks,
Kevin
redobs 07-02-2004, 07:31 AM Do you have any Stage 2 clutches?
Daddy's SCP 07-02-2004, 11:57 AM Red Rocket/STi FSU - Well, I fall short on an answer here because we've only dealt with the Stage 3 and Stage 1. I've been hesitant to stocking Stage 2's primarily due to the reasons you both mention. In my own research, regardless of brand, it seems that Kevlar is a bit picky and can result in premature wear if not driven correctly. This is pure speculation on my half as I don't have any real world feedback on the Spec Stage 2.
redobs - PM'd you.
