Over the last month or so I have had a sulfury/gas smell inside the cabin. This only happens when I punch the gas from a stop and max out the RPMs until i hit about 70. If i stop and do it again, it won't be nearly as bad as it was the first time. In fact, it may be non-existent.
When i am driving the car at a normal rate there is no smell at all.

Any ideas.

I would think that may be normal...kind of "cleaning out" your engine of any deposits that accumulate while not running. But the fact that it gets into your cabin at speed is strange. Usually the engine bay airs out before it can get into your vents.

Have you tried this with and without the recirc'd air?

I know after Taco Bell, my cabin smells like gas. Weird!

An overheated catalytic converter smells like that. Running WOT up some mountain roads around here for several minutes in our 2.2L Legacy wag results in that smell.

so by an overheated CC you mean a bad CC?

My dealer insists that if the CC is bad the CEL would come on in an instant.

I get that as well. If I accelerate abruptly the cabin will fill with sulfur smell. I am running on 87 octane and it hasn't done it ina while now so I wonder what the deal was?

Some people say upgrade your octane to 89 or higher, imo that's a waste of money., Someone said it could also be your 02 sensor or Catalyct converter. go get those two checked out if the stanky ass smell bothers you.

But just letting you know I have experienced that as well, so it could jus tbe normal.

that is a known issue.

it has to do with the sulfur content of the gas and out CC's operating with imperfect o2 content for the cc to do its job 100%. The ecu tries to keep the a/f and consequently the exaust composistion such that the cc can do its job, but it can be off under wot i suppose.

the best fix I have done is to try different gas companies in your area. Sunoco gas in my area has the lowest sufur content that I have found. I get almost no egg smell when i run it.

Since I've switched to Sunoco I haven't had the sulfur smell happen again. I guess the Mobil brand gas was the culprit.
