View Full Version : Exedy Clutch Installed!

I got my exedy clutch installed and what can you say? It’s just too strong for my car! It was like a on/off switch at first but after a while like now, it’s been smoother. I did somewhat rushed the break-in on it, but regular driving did break it in now.

The clutch pedal feel is a bit stiffer. My leg actually got a bit tired for a moment while just playing with the clutch. The springs are also a bit different on the OEM and Exedy clutch. The pressure plates were different in comparison. Both look OEM Subaru.

Launching the car was harder because either you burn the clutch a bit or bog. But once it gets locked, your speed will raise quickly to 30-33mph. Took it out to a curvy circular road to test it’s grabbing power. Clutch release during heel toe down shifting should be done with ease and not let the clutch out too quick. In the little straights, it grabs better than I’ve ever felt before.

Highs: Good grabbing pressure, excellent replacement of OEM clutch.
Lows: IMO the amount of pressure needed to press the clutch. It isn’t really bad at all, but for the first few trips, you may have a tiring leg, but hey, it’s a good workout!

Clutch was bought online from clutchcityonline.com
$315 & free shipping. Ordered on Monday, received the following Friday. It comes in a pretty grey box with pink and blue color/text. Says Exedy Racing Clutch.

Pretty cool!

did you install it yourself? The more pressure you have to apply must suck in traffice where you can't quite keep your foot off the clutch in first gear.. i hate that

Yea, I installed the clutch by myself and the help of a few hands. Not hard to install, just make sure you keep the nuts and bolts in labeled bags so you don't lose any.

It isn't THAT stiff. It's only stiffer than the STOCK L's. Your leg will build muscle over a short period of time. Regular city driving won't tire your leg but maybe if you do some track time where you have to heel-toe (asumming it's your first time track racing).

Basically the clutch is the same, except that the pressure plate is stronger but a bit. Clutchcity.com said that it's anywhere from 35-40% increase for the L, where as it's 27% for the RS.

do L and RS use same type of clutch? because i heard RS has a hydro clutch. does that make a difference?

I think the only thing that changed was cable and hydrualic. My clutch system uses a cable while I think the MY00+ are hydralic with a little piston that pushes that thingy that sticks out on the driver side of the tranny.

I think it DOES use the same type of clutch. Because this exedy clutch IS the same as the STi V/VI so it should be the same. Let's see if someone can confirm this.

Afaik the NA motors used a pull type pressure plate and the turbo ones used a pull type. Cable or hydro didn't matter it was the same pressure plate.

shudder? how does THAT feel like? It WAS like a on off switch at first. then it broke in and engages smoothly depending on clutch release.
