View Full Version : Anyone have experience with turbos running clipped turbine wheels?

Clipping the turbine wheel seems like an interesting option to get the stock turbo to better hold boost until redline, but I have a few concerns about this.

#1 More propensity to boost creep. The turbine now has more gas than ever to bypass, and the wastegate may not be able to keep up.

#2 If the turbine wheel is clipped, it's going to spin faster, causing the compressor side of the turbo to compress more air (sounds good so far). However, this means the compressor wheel and housing is further outside of it's sweet spot. I'm afraid that clipping the turbine wheel will cause the turbo to spew hot air. This will decrease knock resistance and hurt power.

My only remaining question is "Why couldn't Subaru make the stock injectors and turbo just a lil bigger?"
