hello all, i have a 1986 Subaru turbo 4wd XT . it has the 4wd button on the 5speed. enough with the talk. I can start it up just fine, in fact it started after sitting for 4 months in Alaska sub-freezing temperatures all the time.It has good clean oil and antifreeze, etc. When it starts it billows i mean BILLOWS white stinky smoke, epecially when u give it RPMs It is a horribe white smoke that smells like charring or something disguesting. I am wondering what may cause this, or how to fix it? the car does not drive around because it billows. how do i fix this problem>? can someone please help me!

Sounds like it could be the head gaskets.

Yea the head gasket blew. Check out compression on it and one of your cylender will be low or none at all I bet. Changeing them out isn't that hard I am doing it right now on mine alot of work but pretty simple and while you are there you can overhaul the whole top end too.

Hey Falenseraf

Hows your XT coming together.. did you ever get your stuff for the auto to 5 speed swap? I have a pushbutton 4wd 5 speed out of a turbowagon I am going to be getting rid of soon. I know its not exactly what you are looking for, but it can probably be had cheap.. it works fine.. its in my car now. PM me here or on the USMb and we'll hook up and trade soob war stories.
